Motorola brand stills for USA ,Latin America, and Europe, Lenovo for China and emerging markets.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Lenovo just bought the Motorola handset division to Google in $2.91 billion. How this happened:

Right after Google bought Motorola [in 2012 ], I invited [Google executive chairman] Eric Schmidt to have a dinner at my house. I told him, "If you think you want run the hardware business, you can keep the business; but if you are not interested in the hardware business, we definitely can handle that, take over that."

He remembered that, and two months ago, he sent me an e-mail. I called him back, and he asked me, "Are you still interested in Motorola?" I said, "Definitely." We started to discuss it. I went to Silicon Valley many times. [Google CEO] Larry Page invited me to his house to have a dinner. Very quickly -- in just two months -- we closed the deal, says Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang  in a interview made by tech fortune

Lenovo currently has China and emerging markets. They have the U.S., Latin America, and a little bit of the European market.

We are both ( Motorola and Lenovo) committed to innovation. They have very strong engineering capabilities and very good relationships with carriers. So this combination is perfect.  I wish we could sell more than 100 million smartphones together in the year 2015.Definitely both emerging markets and Motorola markets. Even though Motorola has a lot of influence in the U.S. and Latin America, the market share is still limited. So we still have very good opportunity to grow. We want to become a very decent player in these markets.

Asked about if Lenovo will continue manufacturing Motorola smartphones in the USA he said:

We haven't made a final decision. In my understanding, Motorola does customization of phones [in the U.S.]. If that is what the market needs, we will definitely keep that. It is a good model, so we may replicate that in other markets.

Lenovo CEO also said they want to surpass Apple and Samsung in phones sales With Motorola, Lenovo will be the No. 3 smartphone maker worldwide. According to IDC, Lenovo sold 45 million devices for the year and Motorola about 10 million.

Leaked picture taken with Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 suggests a 21 Mpxls camera.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

The Leaked picture below was taken with a supposed Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 version SM-G900V and  suggests a 21 Mpxls camera The photo was shared by @evleaks on twitter but originally posted by @123fliptest on flipboard

info from EXIF reveals that the camera had an f/2.2 aperture and a focal length of 4.6mm. Assuming the camera lens will be 28mm equivalent in 35mm terms equivalent, the sensor size comes in at 1/2.5" – the size of the 20MP in the Nokia Lumia 1520.
There is indeed some speculation that since the photo has 16:9 aspect ratio, the full resolution of the sensor could be 21MP (for a 4:3 sensor).

The Future is now: The RYNO Bike. Video.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Ryno - LeftFrontAngle_NEW

The Ryno bike: a one-wheeled, electric-powered motorcycle created by Chris Hoffmann. The Ryno was based off a sketch by Hoffmann's daughter who saw something like the vehicle in a video game. With 15 years of auto industry engineering experience, Hoffmann got busy building the very first Ryno.

Six years and three prototypes later, the Ryno travels at speeds up to 10 MPH and can travel up to 10 miles on a fully charged battery. The bike weights 160 pounds and can carry up to 260 pounds with its custom steel frame. LED headlights ensure riders can see where they're going and others in cars or on bikes can see the rider.

Last week, Hoffmann came into the Popular Science office and brought with him the Ryno. A couple of us rode it around the halls of our floor, people pulling off their headphones and peeking behind corners to see what was going on. It felt a little weird getting on the Ryno at first – there's no gas pedal or normal brake.

You propel it by leaning forward and go reverse by leaning back. To steer, it's more about rotating the hips than twisting the handlebars. Hoffmann guided me on my first couple of rides down the hallways, kind of like learning how to ride a bike. But once I got the hang of it, I pretty much felt like I was riding a motorcycle owned by the Red Power Ranger.

Hoffmann's first-year plan is to have a limited amount of bikes sold by five dealers, and begin shipping on April 16. The Ryno bike will be priced at about $5,300. Check out more details about the motorcycle on its website.

RYNO RETAILS FOR $5,295.

That includes two RYNO SLA batteries, RYNO charger, powerful LED headlights, the RYNO display stand – everything you need to ride your RYNO. And guess what? The air conditioning’s free.

UPGRADE TO LITHIUM ION BATTERIES FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE.

Purchase RYNO authorized Lithium Ion batteries, which will enable you recharge your power supply up to 1,000 times or more.  Check with your dealer for details.

ADD THE RYNO RACK FOR $169.95.

Even though you ride the RYNO solo – it doesn’t mean you can’t take some things with you. The custom-designed RYNO rack is compatible with most bicycle pannier-style bags, so you can hit the grocery store, carry your laptop, or whatever else you need when you’re out and about.

MADE IN THE USA

All RYNO Micro-cycles are built and assembled just outside of Portland, Oregon, using the highest quality materials, components and of course, the best of a highly skilled work force.

Press Release:

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and Mountain View, California – January 29, 2014:  Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) today have entered into a definitive agreement under which Lenovo plans to acquire the Motorola Mobility smartphone business. With a strong PC business and a fast-growing smartphone business, this agreement will significantly strengthen Lenovo’s position in the smartphone market. In addition, Lenovo will gain a strong market presence in North America and Latin America, as well as a foothold in Western Europe, to complement its strong, fast-growing smartphone business in emerging markets around the world.

The purchase price is approximately US$2.91 billion (subject to certain adjustments), including US$1.41 billion paid at close, comprised of US$660 million in cash and US$750 million in Lenovo ordinary shares (subject to a sharecap/floor). The remaining US$1.5 billion will be paid in the form of a three-year promissory note.
Lenovo, which in 2005 acquired IBM’s PC business and its legendary PC brand, will now acquire world-renowned Motorola Mobility, including the MOTOROLA brand and Motorola Mobility's portfolio of innovative smartphones like the Moto X and Moto G and the DROIDTM Ultra series.  In addition to current products, Lenovo will take ownership of the future Motorola Mobility product roadmap.
Google will maintain ownership of the vast majority of the Motorola Mobility patent portfolio, including current patent applications and invention disclosures. As part of its ongoing relationship with Google, Lenovo will receive a license to this rich portfolio of patents and other intellectual property.  Additionally Lenovo will receive over 2,000 patent assets, as well as the Motorola Mobility brand and trademark portfolio.
Motorola Mobility enjoys outstanding brand awareness around the world, and is currently the #3 Android smartphone manufacturer in the U.S. and #3 manufacturer overall in Latin America.
“The acquisition of such an iconic brand, innovative product portfolio and incredibly talented global team will immediately make Lenovo a strong global competitor in smartphones. We will immediately have the opportunity to become a strong global player in the fast-growing mobile space,” said Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo. “We are confident that we can bring together the best of both companies to deliver products customers will love and a strong, growing business. Lenovo has a proven track record of successfully embracing and strengthening great brands – as we did with IBM’s Think brand – and smoothly and efficiently integrating companies around-the-world.  I am confident we will be successful with this process, and that our companies will not only maintain our current momentum in the market, but also build a strong foundation for the future.”
“Lenovo has the expertise and track record to scale Motorola Mobility into a major player within the Android ecosystem.  This move will enable Google to devote our energy to driving innovation across the Android ecosystem, for the benefit of smartphone users everywhere,” said Larry Page, CEO, Google.
“As part of Lenovo, Motorola Mobility will have a rapid path to achieving our goal of reaching the next 100 million people with the mobile Internet. With the recent launches of Moto X and Moto G, we have tremendous momentum right now and Lenovo’s hardware expertise and global reach will only help to accelerate this,” said Dennis Woodside, CEO, Motorola Mobility.

Lenovo is buying its way into a heavily competitive U.S. handset market dominated by Apple Inc.

Lenovo is in the final stages of talks to buy the Google division that makes the Moto X and Moto G smartphones, as well as certain patents.

Google bought the Motorola U.S. cellphone giant in 2012 for $12.5 billion but has struggled to revamp the money-losing business.

Lenovo  last week announced a deal to buy IBM's low-end server business for $2.3 billion in what was China's biggest technology deal thus far.

The Chinese firm will use a combination of cash and stock as well as deferred payments to finance the deal with Google, the people said, asking not to be named because the matter is not public.

Lenovo is being advised by Credit Suisse Group while Lazard Ltd advised Google on the transaction, the people said.

Representatives for Google, Lenovo, Credit Suisse and Lazard did not respond to requests for comment or declined to comment.
An announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.
