WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

TeliaSonera  and Tele2 have been awarded new LTE frequencies in the 1800 MHz frequency band by Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS). Tele2 won a mobile license of 2x10 MHz frequencies through the network company Net4Mobility for approximately SEK 430 million.

TeliaSonera is already using part of the 1800 MHz band and now has acquired 2x25 MHz in the 1800 MHz frequency band at the cost of total SEK 920 million.

Tele2 plans to use the frequencies in rolling out of its 4G network primarily as capacity building in urban areas. According to company, its 4G network covers today 2.5 million people, and the ambition is to cover 99% of the Swedish households by the end of 2012.

TeliaSonera already uses the 1800 MHz frequency band for 4G services in Finland, Denmark, Latvia and Lithuania. Operator plans to use new frequencies to provide customers with even more bandwidth for their surf needs in the 4G network.

The licenses granted now for the 1800 MHz band are valid for 25 years starting from 2013.
