MWC 2015: LG to unveil the Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy Mid-range smartphones.

Better Grip, In-Cell Touch Display and Intuitive UX Offered
in LG’s New Range of Mass-Tier 3G and LTE Smartphones

At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), LG Electronics (LG) will unveil a new line of exceptional smartphones at exceptional prices with the introduction of mid-range handsets with design elements and features usually reserved for premium models.

LG’s new lineup of four mid-range smartphones — MagnaSpiritLeon and Joy — builds on LG’s design language to bring optimized performance and effortless user experience to a broader range of consumers. By combining the most essential hardware with LG’s premium design elements and user experience, LG has created the perfect balance of style and usability. The LG Magna and LG Spirit are designed to fit more comfortably in palm of one’s hand with its gently curved design while their displays are distinguished by a subtle 3000mm radius curve for a sleeker, more attractive profile.

The four devices will be available in both LTE and 3G versions, consistent with LG’s strategy to expand its appeal in the mass-tier segment with different products for different networks. The LTE and 3G versions of each model share nearly identical design cues with metallic back covers distinguishing the LTE models while the 3G devices feature patterned plastic back covers.

The LG Magna, which means “ultimate” in Latin, features a 5-inch in-cell touch display, normally offered only in premium smartphones, and a Quad-Core chipset. With an 8-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front shooter, the LG Magna was designed with high quality selfies in mind. A class leading 2,540mAh removable battery keeps the Magna running all day even with heavy use.

The LG Spirit, which embodies the spirit of LG’s innovations, features a 4.7-inch in-cell touch display and an 8-megapixel camera. In-cell touch technology makes the phones look slimmer while maximizing their display areas and minimizing the bezels. By bringing images closer to the screen, in-cell touch displays offer improved sensitivity with faster touch recognition, better outdoor visibility and crisper images.

The LG Leon, “lion” in Latin, offers a 4.5-inch display in a compact, premium-looking body. The smallest of the group, LG Joy, has a 4-inch display and delivers pure enjoyment in a smartphone that fits in any pocket.

With the new mid-range lineup, LG is carrying over popular UX features originally designed for its premium smartphones. Gesture Shot makes it easy to take great selfies with a simple hand gesture that starts a three-second countdown. LG has extended the distance from which the camera can recognize gestures to1.5 meters to accommodate popular selfie sticks. Glance View, which debuted on the G Flex2, lets users quickly access key information such as time, recent messages or missed calls with a simple downward swipe of the screen, even while the display is off.

“LG’s new mid-range collection continues our legacy of offering amazing smartphones at reasonable prices,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “For millions of consumers around the world, the deciding factor on which smartphone to buy isn’t how fast or how big it is but how balanced it is. With our new mid-range smartphones, more and more customers will be looking to LG for their next handsets.”

LG’s new mid-range collection will begin its global rollout this week in select markets. Visitors to MWC 2015 will be able to experience all of LG’s newest products first-hand at LG’s booth in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via.

MWC 2015: Flash Networks Innovative Layer8 Monetization Solution Selected by Seven Operators in the Last Six Months.

Flash Networks, the leading provider of mobile Internet optimization and monetization solutions, announced today that its Layer8 clientless monetization solution was selected by seven operators in the last six months and is planned to be used by over 200 million subscribers worldwide. The latest customers include operators in Asia and Europe and one large operator group which plans to deploy at several properties.

Layer8 is a clientless monetization solution that reinvents the way operators engage with their subscriber base and enables mobile operators to join forces with over-the-top (OTT) players instead of competing with them.

Liam Galin, President & CEO of Flash Networks, explains, "What we actually do is allow operators to partner with OTT players by offering them the ability to appear on the mobile browser in the right context and at the right time in a clientless way without the need for any download. Using this approach, we are creating an entirely new market segment – with-the-top (WTT) – where operators and OTT players cooperate rather than compete.

From now on we no longer want operators to think in OTT terms but rather consider themselves part of the WTT ecosystem. As part of this ecosystem, we have already partnered with over 200 content providers across the globe, enabling Layer8 to be used by operators to reach out and offer relevant content directly to their subscribers in an appealing way.

Appearing as a visual layer on the user's browser, Layer8 unveils relevant content and operator-owned advertising space when subscribers click on an unobtrusive "curl". More than 80% of web pages browsed by subscribers exhibit potential offers, resulting in significant revenue opportunities for mobile operators.

Flash Networks is not only a technology provider but also handles all the management of ad inventory, placement, and revenue models. With Layer8, operators can provide personal account information and offer upsell opportunities such as data top-up packages, mobile wallets, and content including music, movies, and games. In addition, operators can provide product recommendations, including discounts and coupons from nearby businesses, recommended content, and offer much more to subscribers, adding new value to the browsing experience in a clientless way.

Galin continued, "Layer8 creates a massive amount of new advertising inventory that the operator controls and monetizes to generate revenues from the very first day. And as the innovators of the WTT domain, we are continuously teaming up with content providers and local businesses to discover new differentiating services that also boost profitability. It is the first time that a true win-win-win scenario has been created in which subscribers, operators, and content providers all benefit."

Layer8 will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress, on March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain at Flash Networks' stand (5D60).

MWC2015: New Ruckus Smart WiFi Technology Innovations Uniquely Enable Carrier-Class WiFi calling.

Ruckus Wireless, Inc.  today introduced a collection of new Smart Wi-Fi technology software innovations that address the growing demand for higher quality IP-based voice calling over Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Calling).

These new Ruckus technology innovations are being integrated as standard features within the Ruckus portfolio of Smart Wi-Fi products to help ensure crystal clear Wi-Fi Calling voice quality in the most challenging Wi-Fi environments. These new technology innovations will be demonstrated by Ruckus for the first time at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (Ruckus booth #5E41) and have been successfully tested with two of the biggest mobile network operators (MNOs) in the United States.

"The innovations we've made will improve the reliability and quality of Wi-Fi Calling applications, which enables both service providers and enterprises to extract greater value from their Wi-Fi infrastructure," said Dan Rabinovitsj, Chief Operating Officer at Ruckus Wireless. "While voice over Wi-Fi isn't new, the ability to deliver a carrier-class voice service over Wi-Fi is something that no one has mastered, until now."

The new Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi innovations for Wi-Fi Calling address essential roaming and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. The new innovations enable real-time, bidirectional voice calls that demand a narrow set of operating parameters from the network designed to ensure the highest quality Wi-Fi Calling experience. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi innovations include a variety of new proprietary capabilities such as capacity-based client access control, Wi-Fi multimedia admission controls, directed roaming, and automatic packet flow heuristics. The integration of these and other new Smart Wi-Fi innovations into Ruckus products helps organizations ensure optimal performance of voice over Wi-Fi communications.

The value of these Ruckus innovations to support high quality voice services was evidenced when the developers at Republic Wireless, the groundbreaking "Wi-Fi First" mobile operator, encountered performance issues with their corporate Wi-Fi network that impacted testing environments. Republic turned to Ruckus. "As a pioneer in 'Wi-Fi First' smartphone technology, Republic requires the highest performance from our corporate wireless network," said David Morken, co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Republic Wireless. "With Ruckus, we've got the Wi-Fi environment our engineers require in order to continue delivering new services and features for our customers."

Crystal Clear Voice over Smarter Wi-Fi
The new Ruckus technology innovations for carrier-class Wi-Fi Calling include a number of advances designed to optimize roaming and quality of service (QoS) for delay-sensitive voice traffic, including:

Automatic QoS Heuristics
This is the ability to prioritize Wi-Fi Calling traffic by looking at the Type of Service (ToS) bits set by the smartphone in the IP header, or by using automatic packet flow heuristics that constantly examine the size and frequency of packets in any flow, encrypted or not.

Capacity-Based Client Access Control
If too many new devices attempt to connect to a given Wi-Fi access point (AP), already connected clients may experience service degradation. To help ensure existing clients' quality of user experience, Ruckus ZoneFlex™ APs can now implement a capacity-based client access control algorithm to decline connection requests from new clients. This new feature allows organizations to protect the user experience during periods of heavy load.

Directed Roaming
Leveraging the 802.11v standard, directed roaming helps to ensure the overall quality of user experience for the entire wireless LAN (WLAN) network by directing clients toward another Wi-Fi access point that can provide a better user experience. If a signal falls below user-definable signal strength (RSSI) or throughput thresholds, Ruckus ZoneFlex APs can automatically provide a list of alternative access points and request the client to move to a closer AP. This solves the problem of clients that stay connected or 'sticky' with a given AP, even if it no longer provides the best connection.

Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) Admission Control
WMM admission control improves the performance of Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi networks for real time voice and video services by preventing oversubscription of bandwidth. By requiring clients to request a specific amount of bandwidth before connecting to a given Ruckus ZoneFlex AP, bandwidth management on each AP now takes into account network load and channel connections before allowing clients to connect.

When combined with Ruckus BeamFlex™ technology, these new innovations provide the necessary Quality of Service to support Wi-Fi Calling applications. By focusing and adapting Wi-Fi signals over the best performing signal path, clients can connect at higher data rates, spending less time contending for access to the Wi-Fi medium. This reduces contention for the RF channel and the likelihood of collisions (increased jitter), frame loss, or packet retransmissions (increased latency) by dynamically adjusting the antenna pattern for each and every packet transmitted.

Pricing and Availability
Becoming available immediately and throughout 2015, the new Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi software innovations for carrier-class Wi-Fi Calling are being embedded within Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi firmware, supported by Ruckus ZoneDirector™ Smart WLAN controllers, the Ruckus SmartCell™ Gateway (SCG) and virtual SmartCell Gateway (vSCG), and ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi access points, at no additional cost to customers.

MWC2015: Gionee to launch ultra slim smartphone.

GIONEE, a leading global provider of mobile devices, will unveil their latest ultra-slim smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2015. The product launch event will be held at theatre D of hall 8 on March 2, 2015.

Gionee is the Guinness World Records® holder for the thinnest smartphone and garnered all the applause for its ELIFE S5.5 launched at last year's MWC and the recently launched ELIFE S5.1. In the last few months, some other manufacturers followed Gionee and are pushing the limits on slimness of smartphones.

"The race to make the slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up," said by Oliver Sha, head of global marketing of Gionee.

To make a smartphone slimmer, some manufacturers made sacrifices such as eliminating the headphone jack, a protruding rear camera, shortening of the battery life, and a thin frame that brings about heating issues and a bad signal. But is it worth the compromise?

With smartphone manufacturers racing to launch models that can turn heads, this year at MWC, Gionee is looking at a new wave of slim phones that can be elevated to the next level, bringing its latest slim smartphone that's more than beyond slim, without compromising on performance and a focus on delivering a superior user experience, whether in technology, design, or usability.

More information for the launch event is available at http://www.mobileworldcongress.com/gionee/.

GIONEE's products will be on display at GIONEE's booth located in Hall 7, Stand C61.

About Gionee
Established in 2002, Gionee is a hi-tech company engaging in mobile device designing, R&D, manufacturing, sales in global markets, and mobile internet application services. Today, Gionee sells over 25 million handsets per year worldwide and ranks No.10 in the world by smartphone market share. Gionee is moving fast in building solid brand channels in global markets especially in South Asia and South East Asia.
