Swiss Traditional Watch makers counterattack smartwatches, with smart features.

We see that coming. After all smartwatchers makers are making them much smarter every new model, the Swiss Traditional Watch makers are now aware of what it means for their market and are starting to test their watches with few smart features in, like sleep and motion tracking technology built inside and a companion app to go with them and without sacrificing on style.
Swiss watchmakers Frederique Constant, Mondaine, and Alpina teamed up with the motion-tracking software company Fullpower to create a new, smartwatch platform called MMT Horological, to bring fitness and sleep tracking to traditional watches.
The software called MotionX will keep tabs on activity, while the Sleeptracker software will monitor the wearer’s sleep patterns and offer up smart alarms. The watches will always show the correct time and date, but they’ll also coordinate with your phone to send you active alerts and coach you. All your data will be backed up and restored on the MotionX cloud.
In addition to offering users Fitbit-like activity tracking, these smarter wristwatches will maintain the classic good looks of their traditional, Swiss counterparts. To top it all off, they’ll also offer 2 years or more of battery life. The first of these watches are expected to arrive in June 2015.

USA: LG announces availabilty of award winning 2015 OLED and LED 4K ULTRA HD TVs w/WebOS 2.0

LG Electronics USA today announced pricing and availability for the first of its 2015 4K ULTRA HD (UHD) TV models, which were unveiled with great acclaim last month at the 2015 International CES®.
Leading the 2015 lineup is LG's 4K UHD OLED TV, widely praised by industry pundits for delivering the best picture ever by virtue of its perfect blacks and brighter, crisper images for infinite contrast. Other new 2015 models available this spring include LG's PRIME UHD LED TV – a premium tier above the company's ULTRA HD TV featuring LG "ColorPrime" wider color gamut technology which offers a broader range of colors for a truly premium, cinema-like experience.
"Picture quality is the top consideration for television shoppers, and LG's 2015 4K TV lineup delivers," said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing, LG Electronics USA. "OLED is unequivocally the best screen technology in the market today, and LG is the only manufacturer to offer OLED TVs, both 4K ULTRA HD and Full HD this year. Our PRIME UHD LED TV models with ColorPrime technology offer the best in 4K LED with expanded color capability for more lifelike images and, like all of our Ultra HD LED TVs, they deliver incredible clarity and detail with four times the resolution of Full HD."
After winning awards at this year's CES, LG's 65-inch class (64.5 inches measured diagonally) 65EG9600 Art Slim Curved 4K OLED will be available at retail in April for $8,999. OLED's revolutionary technology delivers a breathtaking picture with perfect blacks and incredible color, even from wide viewing angles. The 65EG9600 combines the intense detail of 4K ULTRA HD and the superior contrast and rich, accurate color that OLED provides, displaying the ultimate in picture quality. LG's Art Slim design philosophy is a complement to any interior décor as the TV boasts an amazingly slim depth at only a few millimeters and a stylish, frameless design. Additionally, LG's 1080p 55EC9300 55-inch class (54.6 inches diagonal) OLED TV continues to be available at $3,499.
LG is also launching its PRIME UHD TV – an all-new premium line of 4K UHD LED TVs featuring LG "ColorPrime" technology, Ultra Luminance, 4K In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel and the LG Prime Mastering Engine to offer a truly premium, cinema-like experience.
LG ColorPrime models use LG proprietary technology that magnifies the range of colors that can be displayed on screen by utilizing different LED phosphor colors, creating greater image depth and realism. LG Ultra Luminance technology continuously analyzes the brightest and darkest parts of the displayed content in order to improve brightness and resolution. Also equipped with LG's 4K IPS panel, the TV renders detailed images at extremely wide viewing angles. What's more, the LG Prime Mastering Engine optimizes the settings of the TV to boost picture quality to premium levels.
In addition to premium picture quality, the UF9500 series features a stunning UltraSlim Design, among the slimmest LED TVs on the market at as little as 8.5mm in depth. The unique "auditorium" stand not only provides a stylish base for the set, but also enhances the audio system designed in collaboration with harman/kardon for an immersive audio experience. The 65- and 55-inch class (64.5 and 54.6 inches diagonal) UF9500 models will be available at retail in March for $4,499 and $3,699 respectively.

All of the new models include LG's webOS 2.0, the updated version of the company's award-winning* Smart TV platform designed to make access content even simpler and faster. MWC 2015: LG to unveil the smartphone on your wrist the LG URBANE LTE.

Make Calls, Send Messages and Get Push-to-Talk
Capability All Without a Smartphone

In another example of its wireless expertise, LG Electronics (LG) will be unveiling the world’s first LTE-enabled smartwatch to Mobile World Congress (MWC) next week in Barcelona, Spain. The LG Watch Urbane LTE, a next-generation wearable watch, will also include NFC and a host of other features that have never been offered before on a smart device for the wrist.

As the fourth smartwatch from LG, the LG Watch Urbane LTE is the most ambitious. It offers the style and sophistication of a real analog watch and adds to this the highest level of micro-technology centered around a 1.3-inch Plastic-OLED display. Under the P-OLED display, the LG Watch Urbane LTE packs all the communication capabilities of a smartphone in a polished, metal wristwatch. Like any 4G phone, it can make and answer calls as well as send and receive text messages. With carrier support, the smartwatch offers push-to-talk (PTT) capability with other devices on the same cellular network so customers can use their LG Watch Urbane LTE as a walkie-talkie with unlimited range to talk to multiple parties at the same time.

At the core of the LG Watch Urbane LTE is the all new LG Wearable Platform operating system, developed specifically for the company’s proprietary wearable products. Beyond the OS, the smartwatch carries over most of the features of the acclaimed LG G Watch R, including a display with always-on ambient mode. Paired with the category’s largest 700mAh battery, the LG Watch Urbane LTE delivers impressively long talk and use times and can go for days in standby mode.

Three physical buttons on the right side of the smartwatch allows for easy access to a number of functions without having to swipe through multiple menu screens. The top button accesses the Quick Setting menu where the user can check and adjust battery usage, brightness, volume and connection settings. The main center button switches between the watchface and list of installed apps. The bottom button acts as the “Back” function when depressed quickly but becomes a safety beacon when long-pressed, automatically dialing any preset phone number as well as sending the location coordinates of the wearer.

The connectivity options offered by the LG Watch Urbane LTE is light years beyond the competition. NFC technology means wearers will have a virtual wallet on their wrist at all times. Users can make payments for meals, movie tickets and even transit fares faster and easier with their LG Watch Urbane LTE without ever taking out their wallets. Imagine being able to purchase movie tickets with the LG Watch Urbane LTE and then receiving a reminder of the movie a few hours in advance, all based on the payment information.

Even with all this technology, the LG Watch Urbane LTE isn’t afraid to be get physical. A built-in heart rate monitor and advanced motion sensors make tracking fitness goals easier than with a smartphone. In addition to the standard fitness coach, the LG Watch Urbane LTE also includes specialized features for golfers, cyclists and hikers. IP67 dust and waterproofing certification means the watch can be submerged in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes, making it safe for showers and exposure to perspiration.

Whether working out or working a room, access to several thousand watchfaces ensures that the LG Watch Urbane LTE can always be personalized to suit one’s taste and style of the moment, from the shape of the watch hands to the background, which can even be customized using photographs from a smartphone or tablet.

“The LG Watch Urbane LTE is an example of the kind of innovation that’s possible when you’re the industry leader in LTE technology,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “This smartwatch breaks new ground with the world’s first LTE connectivity and the real-watch styling of a high-end modern classic watch. It embodies our philosophy, innovation for a better life.”
