Canada: Future Shop selling the Rogers Samsung Galaxy SIII for $129,99

The offer is available through Future Shop, though users will have to head over to a retail location to grab a unit. 

The new mobile phone with a three-year contract agreement with Rogers will have to pay only $129.99 (€107) for the phone today. 

Rogers still selling the device for $159,99

The price tag applies to the 16 GB flavor of the smartphone, which still offers support for MicroSD memory cards of up to 64GB.

Canada's Rogers Communications is investing approximately $2.2 billion in wireless capital investments in 2011 and 2012, including close to $500 million to bring LTE to the majority of Canadians by the end of 2012. Operator has just completed one year of it's LTE launch.

On July 7, 2011, Rogers launched LTE in the greater metropolitan areas of Ottawa, followed by Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and surrounding cities. So far in 2012, Rogers has rolled out LTE in St. John's, Halifax and Calgary to reach approximately 35 per cent of the Canadian population.

Rogers is continuing to expand its LTE network, expanding coverage in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver, and adding a number of new cities with the plan to cover approximately 60 per cent of the population by the end of the year.  Rogers plans to launch LTE in Moncton, Trois Rivières, Sherbrooke, Quebec City, Kingston, Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Niagara, Windsor, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, London, Barrie, Sudbury, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Kelowna, Abbotsford and Victoria. More cities will be launched in 2013.

This summer, Rogers will be launching several more LTE devices, including Sony's LTE smartphone, the Sony Xperia Ion, and  LTE Rocket hub.

Canada: Apple in talks with Rogers Communications and BCE to become partners for iTV. Prototypes on hands of Rogers and Bell.

Rogers Communications Inc. and BCE Inc. are in talks with Apple Inc. to become Canadian launch partners for its much-hyped Apple iTV, a product that has the potential to revolutionize TV viewing by turning conventional televisions into gigantic iPads.

While the iTV product remains cloaked in secrecy, sources say Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple has approached Rogers and Bell as it actively pursues partnerships with Canadian carriers.

“They’re not closed to doing it with one company or doing it with two,” said one source who is familiar with the talks. “They’re looking for a partner. They’re looking for someone with wireless and broadband capabilities.”

Another source, also speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Rogers and Bell already have the product in their labs.

The product reportedly integrates Siri, Apple’s voice-recognition software that acts as a personal assistant on the latest iPhone, into television sets to help viewers make programming choices.

Viewers can then control the TV by voice or hand gestures, all from the comfort of a couch. An on-screen keyboard, meanwhile, can also be activated in a similar manner, allowing viewers to surf the web, conduct video chats and use social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook – all without any physical interface.

Jeffries analyst Peter Misek said an analysis of Apple’s patents suggests its iTV product will likely be interoperable with mobile devices, while also functioning as a gaming platform.

Canada’s largest telecommunications companies are squaring off in a fight about the future of television.

Canada: Rogers confirmed will launch the Palm Pre 2: Box Images

Last week HP officially announced that the Palm Pre 2 was coming to Canada “in the coming months”, but gave no insight into which carrier was going to carry the device. Then hidden in the source code on the Palm Canada site was “The Palm Pre2 phone is available on the Rodger’s network”. We can now confirm that this new webOS 2.0 device will in fact be coming to Rogers as one of our tipsters sent us the upcoming packaging with Rogers all over it. In addition, taking a look at the pics you’ll see the Pre 2 all hooked up to Rogers network. We’re still waiting on an official launch date and pricing. Check out the pics after the break…

Canada: Palm Pre 2 will launch with Rogers

Yesterday, when HP officially unveiled the Palm Pre 2, it said the new smartphone would be available in France via SFR, in the US via Verizon, and in Canada – without specifying the Canadian carrier.

However, the source code of the Pre 2’s Canadian web page shows that the carrier will be none other thanRogers (actually, the source code reads Rodger’s, but that’s less important).

As previously announced, the new Pre should be out in Canada “in the next few months” – we don’t have an exact launch date at the moment.

There’s still no word on the price of the Palm Pre 2, but we should find out more about this on Friday, when the new WebOS 2.0 handset will be launched in France.

With HP officially announcing the new Palm Pre 2 yesterday they stated that it will be available in Canada “in the coming months”. Other carriers were announced such as Verizon in the United States and even SFR in France will be the first to launch this on Friday. No Canadian carrier was listed. However, if you take a look into the source code on the Canadian section of the Palm Pre 2 it reveals that “The Palm Pre2 phone is available on the Rodger’s network”. Even though it’s spelled incorrectly it’s a good indication that Rogers Wireless will be taking a crack at the newest version of the Palm Pre.

Rogers to start LTE trial in Canada

Canada's service provider Rogers Communications has announced the launch of LTE network technical trial with Ericsson Canada in the Ottawa area.

"Our customers increasingly want anywhere, anytime access to information, communications, entertainment and transactional experiences on their device of choice," said Nadir Mohamed, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rogers Communications Inc.

Ericsson, in co-operation with Rogers, has been conducting LTE lab testing at its Ottawa Research and Development facility comparing speeds and performance of LTE technology in multiple frequency bands. Rogers will expand on this testing and move to a comprehensive technical trial of LTE on both low and high band frequencies across the Ottawa area.

"Through this trial we will validate how LTE technology will perform in real world situations across a variety of spectrum frequencies in urban, suburban, and rural environments," said Bob Berner, EVP, Network and Chief Technology Officer, Rogers Communications Inc.

The technical trial will initially use recently auctioned AWS spectrum. Rogers is also working with Industry Canada to secure a development license to use 700 MHz spectrum for the trial.
