Nokia's third and most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone offers youthful appeal
Espoo, Finland and Paris, France - Nokia today introduced the Nokia Lumia 620, the third and most affordable in its range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Alongside the flagship Nokia Lumia 920 and mid-range Nokia Lumia 820, the Nokia Lumia 620 offers a more fun, youthful appeal, and compact design.
The Nokia Lumia 620 uses a new dual-shot color technique to deliver a variety of striking color and texture effects. Dual-shot adds a second layer of colored, transparent or translucent polycarbonate on top of a base layer to produce secondary color blends and depth effects.  With seven different exchangeable shells to choose from, people can adapt the look of their Nokia Lumia 620 to their own personal taste and style.
"We continue to execute on our strategy to reach new audiences and new markets," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president, Nokia Smart Devices. "With its innovative design, the latest Windows Phone 8 software and signature experiences from Nokia, like Nokia lenses, Nokia Maps and Nokia Music, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a highly competitive smartphone at this price point."
Among the features shared with the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 are exclusive camera lenses that transform the creative power of the Nokia Lumia 620's five megapixel main camera and VGA front-facing camera. The Cinemagraph lens adds simple animations to still photographs, while Smart Shoot creates a single, perfect shot from multiple images, even removing unwanted objects from the picture.
The Nokia Lumia 620 also provides access to the world's best maps and location experience, including Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport and the exclusive Nokia City Lens. Nokia City Lens displays information about local surroundings overlaid onto buildings as seen through the camera viewfinder.
Making it easy to discover and enjoy new music, Nokia Music provides free streaming of ad-free tracks without registration or subscription and the ability to download playlists for listening offline.
With NFC support, the Nokia Lumia 620 can easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories like the JBL PlayUp Portable Speaker for Nokia. Open and secure NFC-connectivity makes it possible to share and receive content by tapping with compatible devices, or make secure payments using the Wallet application in Windows Phone 8.
Powered by Windows Phone 8, the Nokia Lumia 620 delivers a more personal smartphone experience. Adjustable Live Tiles update direct to the Start Screen. People Hub pulls together contact information from multiple address books and social networks into a single location, making it easy to stay in touch with friends and set up contact Groups and private Rooms for sharing. From the Me Tile people can check in to their location, post an update, set chat status, see what's new and monitor notifications across Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.  Windows Phone 8 also includes Xbox Live, Microsoft Office, 7GB of online SkyDrive storage and faster, safer surfing with Internet Explorer 10.
These features and capabilities are enabled by Qualcomm's Snapdragon(TM) S4 Plus processors.
"People can do more of the things they love when they choose a mobile device that has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor," said Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Europe. "The Snapdragon S4 Plus processor is the heart of the Nokia Lumia 620, making it possible to multi-task, stream in HD and share content at super-fast speeds."
The Nokia Lumia 620 will be available in a range of colors* including, lime green, orange, magenta, yellow, cyan, white and black. Estimated at USD 249, excluding taxes and subsidies, the Nokia Lumia 620 will begin selling in January 2013 in Asia, followed closely by Europe and the Middle East before expanding further.

The first film about the life of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs since he died, with Ashton Kutcher in the lead role, will premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival, organizers reported.

The film "Jobs", directed by Joshua Michael Stern, known in 2008 for the film "Swing Vote," says the "30 years in life determinants of Steve Jobs", the statement released Monday by the Sundance Institute.

The film, written by Matt Whiteley, described in the text as "a candid portrait, inspiring and staff who saw things differently."

The Facebook profile of "jobs" indicates that the work shows "the amazing and powerful histora a visionary who set out to change the world and he did."

jOBS, the biopic of the Apple entrepreneur with Kutcher in the lead role, will close the Jan. 17-27 festival in Park City, Utah, with a big pop-culture bang, according to the schedule released today.
"We're really excited to have it as the closing night," says Trevor Groth, the festival's director of programming. "It's really an inspirational and entertaining film about a man who has had such a significant impact on the world."
"My hunch is he got the job because he bears such a striking resemblance to Jobs physically," Groth says. "But (Kutcher) really owns the performance."

Sony Pictures is also making a film about Jobs from the bestseller by Walter Isaacson, released last year after the death of Apple's CEO. This film will be written by fellow writer of "Social Network," Aaron Sorkin. Kutcher, 34, became famous through television series such as "That 70s Show" and "Punk'd" before replacing Charlie Sheen in May on "Two and a Half Men".

Jobs died on October 5, 2011 at age 56 after a long struggle against cancer.

mHealthSummit2012: iHealth Partners with Evernote and Practice Fusion to Bring Doctors and Patients Better Data for Healthier Living.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

iHealth Partners with Evernote and Practice Fusion to Bring Doctors and Patients Better Data for Healthier Living.

Information from iHealth's wireless scales, blood pressure monitors and other personal health devices will help consumers remember everything and doctors to track health changes automatically.

iHealth Labs Inc., the pioneering designer and manufacturer of mobile personal healthcare products for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, today announced a new partnership with Evernote, the company that's helping the world remember everything, and Practice Fusion, the largest doctor-patient community. This new partnership lets consumers track and share their results in Evernote, and enables the efficient communication of relevant health information between patients and their physicians in Practice Fusion.

"iHealth's products make it simple to track personal health information, including weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and more with easy-to-use devices that provide valuable information," said Adam Lin, general manager of iHealth Labs. "But that information is even more useful when paired with popular services such as Practice Fusion's Electronic Medical Record, or Evernote's application which make it easy to remember almost everything."

Evernote users will see their iHealth readings show up in their personal Evernote account as a Results Card, with weight and BMI data for scales, and systolic and diastolic readings along with pulse rate for blood pressure. For blood pressure readings, the Results card also displays a helpful graph showing relative results and level of hypertension. Users have the ability to annotate the individual Results Cards with additional information within Evernote. At the end of each week, a summary card is generated in Evernote that shows the week's data at-a-glance.

"Evernote puts all the information that's important to you at your fingertips via almost any device," said Alex Pachikov, VP of Partnerships, Evernote. "Integrating with iHealth means important health data can be saved alongside other relevant information in Evernote. Through that context and instant accessibility, those metrics become even more meaningful to users over time."

iHealth's new partnership with Practice Fusion will encompass two initiatives to start. First off, medical professionals looking for ways to empower their patients to track and improve their own health can now provide them with special offers and access to order iHealth devices directly through Practice Fusion. In the near future, the data tracked by iHealth's products will seamlessly flow into the Practice Fusion Patient Health Record (PHR), Patient Fusion, delivering a more complete picture of a person's vitals and facilitating improved communication between patients and their clinical care team.

"Practice Fusion enables the secure and speedy flow of electronic health records between patients and caregivers," said Todd Martin, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Practice Fusion. "Partnering with iHealth improves our offering by combining our shared vision of efficient healthcare, where patients play an active role in monitoring their health, are empowered with knowledge and can communicate with their caregivers easily and efficiently."

iHealth Labs is demonstrating these new partnerships and their latest medical devices at the mHealth conference in Washington, D.C. this week, appearing in booth 1212.

This application, available initially on iPhone and Android devices, is part of the Directional Dynamics version 1.0 suite, to be released in Q1, 2013.

A native smartphone application for Mapping, Wayfinding, and Patient Engagement, Directional Dynamics v. 1.0 will provide patients and visitors with compelling indoor maps of facilities, location hotspots and step-by-step directions throughout a hospital or other healthcare facility. In addition, Directional Dynamics offers indoor positioning technology to deliver real-time, turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation and other location-based services. More than just Wayfinding, Directional Dynamics also incorporates compelling patient engagement features and content, such as staff directories with click-to-call and appointment requests, health information, patient surveys, and hospital news and announcements.

mHealthSummit2012: AT&T Unveils RPM Software-as-a-Service, Enhanced by AT&T Foundry®

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

mHealthSummit2012: AT&T Unveils RPM Software-as-a-Service, Enhanced by AT&T Foundry®

The House Call Reinvented: Video Creates Personal Doctor-Patient Connection Via Cloud-Based Remote Patient Monitoring Service

Today's patient-centered model puts the responsibility on healthcare providers to understand more about their patients outside of the hospital. Remote patient monitoring (RPM) technology is reinventing the age-old notion of the house call. Now, that house call can happen over video on a wirelessly connected tablet.

AT&T* plans to deliver a new cloud-based RPM Software-as-a Service (SaaS) from Ericsson that utilizes its service enablement platform and Intuitive Health software to facilitate better management of chronic diseases and help reduce hospital readmissions. The interactive service's video component will provide helpful coaching, reminders and health education. AT&T has been piloting the RPM SaaS solution with large health systems, academic medical centers and home care providers. It is expected to be available in 2013.

The AT&T RPM SaaS will join the AT&T ForHealth(SM) suite of RPM services that includes an end-to-end managed RPM service powered by Valued Relationships Inc. The end-to-end service allows a nurse-staffed telemonitoring center to monitor patients around the clock, following standard of care guidelines established by physicians and healthcare providers and using an open architecture that supports Bluetooth-enabled devices.

How AT&T RPM SaaS Works:
Patients will be able to check vitals daily using Bluetooth-enabled devices and easily make the data available to their providers, helping to improve quality of care and potentially saving time, money and healthcare resources.

  • Data is automatically collected from wirelessly connected personal health devices such as blood pressure cuffs, weight scales and pulse oximeters, and sent over the AT&T network to the cloud-based system from Ericsson.
  • Healthcare providers can access the information through a highly-secure portal, designed to comply with HIPAA's Security Rule requirements.
  • Since the data is collected electronically, it can be shared among multiple caregivers and physicians through a highly-secure infrastructure, eliminating information gaps and duplication in reporting and helping to provide a more well-rounded view of the patient.
  • The Intuitive Health application helps providers to implement and manage care plans and integrate the resulting data with clinician workflows.
"Live, on-demand, two-way video enables a personal connection for the patient and doctor, extending the relationship beyond the hospital walls," said Geeta Nayyar, M.D., Chief Medical Information Officer, AT&T ForHealth, AT&T Business Solutions. "Video makes it possible for a physician to see clinical signs and indicators such as skin color, mood, affect and determine whether a patient is utilizing devices and medications appropriately."

The Evolution of RPM:
The approach evolved from AT&T and Intuitive Health's work with Texas Health Resources using RPM technology to support a research study that will be completed in December 2013. The AT&T Foundry® worked with AT&T ForHealth, Ericsson and Intuitive Health to enhance the solution by integrating real-time high definition video, allowing customers to access their applications and services from nearly anywhere and almost any device. This AT&T Foundry® work has implications across a number of Health IT solutions where presence and video can help increase engagement and efficacy.

AT&T's RPM solutions will be demonstrated at booth #801 at the mHealth Summit in the Washington DC area from Dec. 3-5, 2012.

mHealthSummit2012:Samsung provides specialized Galaxy S® II smartphone for Preventice remote patient monitoring system.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Samsung provides specialized Galaxy S® II smartphone for Preventice remote patient monitoring system.

Ecosystem of technology companies connected to the BodyGuardian Remote Monitoring SystemTM continues to attract industry leaders.

Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung Mobile)1 and PreventiceTM, a leading developer of mobile health solutions and remote monitoring systems, announced today that Samsung will provide mobile
phones for the new BodyGuardian Remote Monitoring System (RMS)TM from Preventice. Preventice recently announced its receipt of 510(k) clearance from the U.S.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the BodyGuardian RMS, allowing Preventice to market and sell BodyGuardian to hospitals and clinics for use in detecting and monitoring non-lethal cardiac arrhythmias for ambulatory patients.

Samsung Mobile, one of the world’s largest providers of telecommunications products and technologies, has made a commitment to collaborating with health technology companies in an effort to develop for its leading consumer devices new use cases that ultimately improve the quality of patients’ lives.

“Samsung Mobile is thrilled to join forces with Preventice on its BodyGuardian system, freeing patients from expensive and time-consuming office visits,” said Timothy K.

Wagner, vice president and general manager, Samsung Mobile. “With a strong portfolio  of secure, dependable, and feature-rich smartphones and tablets, Samsung Mobile is increasingly playing a key role in delivering innovative solutions within the health care industry and beyond.”

The BodyGuardian System will enable physicians to monitor key biometrics in patients with cardiac arrhythmias outside of the clinical setting, allowing patients go about their daily lives while remaining connected to their physicians. According to Preventice, Samsung Mobile will customize the Galaxy S II smartphone for use in the BodyGuardian RMS by creating a dedicated mobile environment that will ensure a
secure, reliable wireless connection for the transmission of biometric data. Patient data is captured using a small wearable sensor and delivered via Bluetooth communication to a dedicated Galaxy S II smartphone.

The Galaxy S II then transmits the physiological data via cellular network to the Preventice Care Platform in the cloud.

Physicians and/or monitoring centers then access the data via a web or tablet-based portal.

“Remote patient monitoring will significantly change the way patients with heart disease and a variety of other chronic conditions experience the health care system, but only if we’re able to provide solutions that meet the strictest of standards for patient protection and clinical performance,” said Jon Otterstatter, co-founder, president and CEO of Preventice. “By collaborating with Samsung, we are able to create a dedicated mobile
environment that brings sophisticated, secure and reliable, remote patient monitoring to patients where they live, work and play.”

The potential for remote patient monitoring to reduce patient costs and influence care delivery is contributing to rapid growth in the use of wireless monitoring, which is expected to continue in the coming years. In fact, recent research from Kalorama shows that the U.S. market for advanced patient monitoring systems has grown from $3.9 billion in 2007, to $8.9 billion in 2011. The market is expected to reach $20.9 billion by
