The first film about the life of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs since he died, with Ashton Kutcher in the lead role, will premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival, organizers reported.
The film "Jobs", directed by Joshua Michael Stern, known in 2008 for the film "Swing Vote," says the "30 years in life determinants of Steve Jobs", the statement released Monday by the Sundance Institute.
The film, written by Matt Whiteley, described in the text as "a candid portrait, inspiring and staff who saw things differently."
The Facebook profile of "jobs" indicates that the work shows "the amazing and powerful histora a visionary who set out to change the world and he did."
jOBS, the biopic of the Apple entrepreneur with Kutcher in the lead role, will close the Jan. 17-27 festival in Park City, Utah, with a big pop-culture bang, according to the schedule released today.
"We're really excited to have it as the closing night," says Trevor Groth, the festival's director of programming. "It's really an inspirational and entertaining film about a man who has had such a significant impact on the world."
"My hunch is he got the job because he bears such a striking resemblance to Jobs physically," Groth says. "But (Kutcher) really owns the performance."
Sony Pictures is also making a film about Jobs from the bestseller by Walter Isaacson, released last year after the death of Apple's CEO. This film will be written by fellow writer of "Social Network," Aaron Sorkin. Kutcher, 34, became famous through television series such as "That 70s Show" and "Punk'd" before replacing Charlie Sheen in May on "Two and a Half Men".
Jobs died on October 5, 2011 at age 56 after a long struggle against cancer.
