LG Electronics debuts Channel Plus streaming service on 2016 Smart TVs.

LG Launches 'Channel Plus' On 2016 Smart TVs For Seamless Access To Premium Internet Channels.

Channel Plus™ Delivers Wide Range of Free Internet Content Integrated as TV Channels via LG's webOS 3.0 Smart TV Platform.
LG Electronics USA is revolutionizing the way consumers access and enjoy digital content with the seamless integration of online and broadcast content on 2016 LG Smart TVs with webOS.
LG's debut of Channel Plus, a unique streaming service exclusively powered by Xumo®, offers free access to an extensive roster of premium Internet content – available as both live and on-demand programming – presented simply as TV channels alongside over-the-air channels.* Channel Plus begins rolling out this month to LG's expansive line of Smart TVs featuring the company's webOS 3.0 Smart TV platform, led by LG OLED and LG SUPER UHD TVs.
"Channel Plus is a huge step forward in the evolution of Smart TV – and only LG offers it. Users can enjoy nearly 50 quality content choices free of charge on their LG Smart TV, and with webOS 3.0, accessing them has never been simpler or faster," said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing, LG Electronics USA. "By delivering premium Internet content seamlessly with broadcast channels together in the same channel lineup, LG aims to make it easier than ever for consumers to find and enjoy the content they want to watch in one centralized place – whether it's streaming or broadcast."
Powered by Xumo, Channel Plus on LG Smart TVs with webOS 3.0 delivers streaming entertainment, sports, news and lifestyle programming without the need for a set-top box or the cost of a subscription service, enhancing the content experience for cord-cutters and cable or satellite subscribers alike.
Users can choose high-quality, free digital content from broadcasters and online publications such as TIME, PBS Digital Studios, WIRED, Saveur, Cooking Light, GQ and Sports Illustrated. Reflecting a growing trend among millennials, a range of multi-channel network content also is available via channels like BuzzFeed, Mashable, Reuters, FailArmy and Funny or Die.
High-quality international channels are also available free of charge for users with international tastes. Channel Plus offers nearly 50 channels at launch with more, including the new PeopleEntertainment Network from Time Inc., scheduled to launch later this year.
Unique to Channel Plus and webOS 3.0, users can navigate digital broadcast channels together with free streaming Internet content through the same electronic program guide for a unified, simplified navigation and viewing experience. Channel Plus "channels" appear as traditional TV channels, so viewers can easily channel surf among broadcast and online programs without even launching an app using LG's intuitive point and click Magic Remote.
** Users with a cable set top box can access the range of Channel Plus content options simply by setting their input mode into Live TV or directly via the Channel Plus app.
"It has been truly exciting partnering with LG in developing Channel Plus. This new service represents an important step forward for the OTT space by streamlining the viewing experience for the Smart TV user through seamless, native content integration," said Colin Petrie-Norris, CEO of Xumo. "The Channel Plus service aligns perfectly with our DNA at Xumo as it delivers free premium programming in an organic and accessible way. With Channel Plus, all the cool content we used to have to search the web high and low for is now aggregated and attractively organized in one innovative solution on LG Smart TVs."
Beyond presenting online video content in an easy interface, Channel Plus makes the viewing experience more interactive. With the inclusion of on-screen widgets, users can see content suggestions related to the content currently being viewed and enjoy quick and easy access to the webpage or application of the channel provider, where they can find more information and access on demand content options.
Channel Plus will be available starting this month via a software update delivered to 2016 LG Smart TVs with webOS 3.0. For more information on LG Smart TVs with webOS, please visit www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/channel-plus.
