Jonathan Ive , Apple`s senior VP of industrial design buys $17 million house in SF.

Jonathan Ive Apple`s senior vice president of industrial design, has paid $17 million for a house on San Francisco’s “Gold Coast,” .

Designed by the architectural firm Willis Polk & Co, the five-level brick home was completed in 1927 and has six bedrooms and eight full bathrooms and one half bathroom. The 7,274-square-foot house also features views of the San Francisco Bay, an oak-paneled library, a courtyard garden and six wood-burning fireplaces. An upstairs bedroom has cathedral ceilings with exposed beams, while on the lower level there is a two-bedroom, one bathroom staff apartment.

Jonathan Ive, 45, is one of Apple’s most well-known executives and is widely credited with the unique industrial design of the iPod, iPhone, and its other products. A close friend of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, the British-born Mr. Ive has led Apple’s design team since 1996. He was knighted earlier this year. He leads one of Apple’s most secretive teams and like most executives at the company, lives a very private life.

UK: Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior vice president of industrial design, was made a Knight Commander today.

The Briton credited with designing some of Apple's most revolutionary products -- the iPod, iPhone, iPad and iMac computer -- was knighted by Princess Anne Wednesday.

Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior vice president of industrial design, was made a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (KBE) in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Ive, who is now entitled to call himself "Sir", told The Daily Telegraph in a rare interview that the knighthood was "incredibly humbling".

The products Ive designed not only transformed Apple's fortunes but also rocked the music and entertainment industries. He has been described as the most influential Briton living in the US.

So it is almost unnerving to hear him reveal that, despite having already set the bar so high, his most important work is yet to be revealed to the world.

"What we`re working on now feels like the most important and the best work we`ve done... which of course I can`t tell you about," he said in the Telegraph interview.

Ive, aged 45, was born in London but now lives in San Francisco.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fans of the clean, inviting look of the iPhone, iPad and other blockbuster Apple products are legion, and that includes Queen Elizabeth II.

The British monarch has awarded a knighthood to Jonathan Paul Ive, a British citizen and head of Apple Inc.'s design team since the mid-'90s.

Ive received an Order of the British Empire for services to design and enterprise.

Ive is credited with helping the late Steve Jobs bring the consumer-electronics company back from the brink of financial ruin in the late 1990s with his whimsical design for the iMac computer, which originally came in bright colors at a time bland shades dominated the PC world.

He later helped transform Apple into the envy of Silicon Valley with the designs for the iPod, the iPhone and, most recently, the iPad.
