USA: Nokia Lumia 900 AT&T LTE now for $49,99.

The cost of the Lumia 900 Windows phone has been reduced to $49.99 from $99 with a two-year agreement, Nokia spokesman Keith Nowak said on Sunday.

Nokia's phone is sold at AT&T Inc stores. Nowak said the price cut "is part of our ongoing lifecycle management, which is jointly done between Nokia and carrier customers."

The spokesman also said a price cut is not unusual at this time in a smartphone's life cycle, noting that Samsung has cut the price for its Galaxy S II, launched before the Lumia 900.

Featuring a 4.3-inch screen, 1.4-gigahertz processor and 8-megapixel camera, the Lumia 900 uses largely untried software from Microsoft Corp.

Once the world's dominant mobile phone provider, Nokia was late to embrace smartphones, and has also been losing market share in less expensive mobile phones.

Sales have been slow, and Nokia took a further hit when Microsoft said current phones will be unable to run its new Windows 8 software, rendering them obsolete.

This update brings the following enhancements:

▪       Removes purple hue which affected the screen of some devices in low light conditions

▪       Improved sensitivity for the proximity sensor

▪       Other minor adjustments and enhancements

This update is only for Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T’s network in the United States. In addition to the enhancements mentioned, Nokia will be rolling out new updates and surprises in the near future to all Lumia 900 users, so stay tuned!

Nokia will add carriers—especially CDMA carriers like Verizon Wireless—that could help Nokia's growth.  Nokia's U.S. president Chris Weber  said he's working on that. 

"We're not making any announcements, but we understand the importance of Verizon and we're working hard to make that a reality," he said.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is winning over AT&T sales people, but he wouldn't commit to trying to claim any new territory soon. After all, they're selling Lumias faster than they can make them. "Demand has been outstripping supply for the first couple of weeks, and we've been working hard to rectify that,"  "The demand for cyan phones is significantly outpacing supply. When you give people something different from a design perspective colors, etc, it really stands out, and consumers want that."   Nokia's U.S. president Chris Weber said Tuesday.

The Lumia phones are getting good reviews in stores for Nokia's collection of exclusive apps like ESPN and PGA Tour, the colorful design, and the phones' value for money, he said.

The Nokia executive has spent the past four weekends at AT&T stores, seeing how salespeople approach his product.

"The inventory situation is primarily a function of demand because we are seeing that most customers are opting to keep their units and simply update via Zune," Nokia spokeswoman Karen Lachtanski told AllThingsD. "So the impact of customer swaps is insignificant. We are producing more devices to satisfy demand as quickly as possible."

Currently, the cyan version of the LTE-capable Lumia 900 is out of stock on AT&T's website while the matte black version is in stock. AT&T and Nokia have not said how many Lumia 900 devices have been sold so far, but both have said the demand has been strong. Paul Roth, AT&T's president of retail sales and services, told the Wall Street Journal last week that Lumia 900 sales had exceeded expectations.

Further, it appears that the software glitch that affected some Lumia 900 customers' ability to connect to data networks has not had much of an impact on inventory. Nokia began distributing a software patch on April 13 for what it termed a "memory management" issue, and said most Lumia 900 customers have opted to download the patch rather than exchange their phones. 

Nokia also said every individual who has already purchased a Nokia Lumia 900--or who will purchase one between now and April 21--will receive a $100 credit to their AT&T bill from Nokia, essentially making the phone free (it went on sale April 8 for $99.99 with a two-year contract).
