OLED sets do a great job of displaying the blackest parts of an image, so the deepest shadows can really look black, as in real life, rather than gray,” the report said.

“OLED TVs also have unlimited viewing angles, so the picture still looks great if you view it from the sides of a room.”

Regarding LCD TVs, the US magazine said, “While they can’t deliver OLED-like black levels, they get better every year.”

CES 2020: Sony Electronics Announces New 8K LED, 4K OLED and 4K LED Models, with Advanced Picture Quality and Sound Capabilities.

CES 2020: Sony Electronics Announces New 8K LED, 4K OLED and 4K LED Models, with Advanced Picture Quality and Sound Capabilities.

Sony Electronics Inc. today announced new Z8H 8K LED, A8H and MASTER Series A9S OLED, and X950H and X900H 4K LED televisions. Offering a premium viewing experience consumers have come to expect from Sony, this new lineup features proprietary technologies previously only found in Sony's MASTER Series models. These new televisions aim to deliver the most immersive viewing experience in their class, with evolving technologies and premium large screens, created to deliver content the way creators intended.
"Delivering a personalized, immersive and true-to-life viewing experience is a core focus when developing our next generation TVs," said Mike Fasulo, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics North America. "This lineup offers incredible new features to optimize the consumer experience and continue to deliver the creator's intent in both 4K and 8K resolution."
By utilizing Sony's best-in-class Picture Processor X1™ Ultimate, clear and precise picture quality is achieved, offering customers a highly realistic viewing experience. Additionally, with TRILUMINOS™ Display, Sony reproduces the subtle nuances of color, light and gradation from video lens to living room, offering more shades of red, green and blue than ever before. Premium quality sound is a key part of the viewing experience as well, and the new models feature Sound-from-Picture Reality™, which aligns the position of the sound with the images on the screen to offer a uniquely lifelike experience. The new models will continue to deliver the creator's intent with Netflix Calibrated Mode, offering studio-quality Netflix content, and IMAX® Enhanced™1, which brings The IMAX Experience into the home by offering a new level of sight, sound and scale.
This lineup also introduces Ambient Optimization, a new technology that optimizes picture and sound quality in any customer environment. To bring this new concept to life, Acoustic Auto Calibration detects where the customer views their TV from during initial setup and calibrates sound quality based on the environment. This new feature brings the television's full sound potential to any environment.
In addition to Ambient Optimization, this lineup will feature a new Immersive Edge design concept. In order to maximize the immersive experience, a noiseless stand is now located at the edge of the screen. The minimalist stand is less noticeable, offering customers an improved and unobstructed viewing experience.
For the upcoming next-generation gaming consoles, select new models will support 8K HDR (7,680 x 4,320) resolution, 4K (3,840 x 2,160) 120fps high frame rate and fast response time via HDMI inputs to deliver their maximum performance for a cutting-edge gaming experience.
New Lineup Highlights
  • Z8H's New Frame Tweeter: The most immersive experience is realized through enhanced picture quality, slim design and Sound-from-Picture Reality™ with Sony's new Frame Tweeter technology. The Frame Tweeter vibrates the frame of the TV to emit sound, giving customers the feeling that sound is coming directly from the screen.

  • X-Motion Clarity for OLED: This revolutionary technology from Sony will now be available for OLED, refining action on the screen in real time with an incredible refresh rate that is brighter and clearer than ever before.

  • X-Wide Angle X950H Expansion: X-Wide Angle technology provides vivid real-world colors from any angle while retaining more brightness than other conventional LED TVs. • Android TV™: The new lineup will feature Android TV with the Google Assistant, Google Play Store and Chromecast built-in, which offers users easy access to content, services and devices via its extensive platform. Sony's original user interface menus and voice controls are also enhanced for better daily use. Expanded voice control functions enable users to enjoy live TV, apps and connected devices hands-free.

  • Hands-free Capabilities for X950H and Z8H: Sony's voice-activated TVs work alongside Google Assistant to provide a smarter viewing experience.Ask the Assistant to search for the latest blockbuster, stream shows, or open multiplayer games. Have it dim the lights by connecting smart home devices. Manage tasks and see your calendar. Or ask it questions and see the answers on your TV.

  • Easy Connectivity to Most Devices: With Apple® AirPlay® 2, users can stream movies, music, games and photos to their television right from their iPhone®, iPad® or Mac®. IFA 2018: Sony Introduces Next-level Noise Cancellation with the WH-1000XM3 Headphones.

Industry-leading Noise Cancellation Enhanced Even Further with New Features: HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1, Quick Charging Capability and New Design.

Sony Electronics Inc. today announced the WH-1000XM3 noise cancelling headphones, the newest addition to the highly acclaimed Sony 1000X family. This headband-style around ear model offers all of the much loved features from the previous WH-1000XM2 model while adding multiple key improvements, including upgraded noise cancelling performance to enhance the listening and user experience.

Block more ambient sound
Listen with next-level silence thanks to Sony's industry-leading noise cancellation1 technologies. The 1000XM3 features a newly developed HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1, which has approximately four times greater performance than the previous processor. This feature can not only negate transport noise, but also further cancels out daily background sounds, such as street noise and human voices. It also features Dual Noise Sensor technology that captures ambient noise with dual microphones and then passes the sound data to the processor to cancel the noise.

"We are proud to deliver the third generation of our industry-leading noise cancelling headphones," said Yang Cheng, head of video and sound at Sony Electronics. "Our latest model takes noise cancelling to the next level with Sony's innovative QN1 processor to deliver only your favorite music and nothing else."

Premium, superior sound
These headphones deliver exquisite high-resolution audio based on a 40mm driver unit with a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragm that handles heavy beats and can reproduce a full range of frequencies up to 40kHz. This enables you to enjoy listening to your music exactly how the artist intended.

The HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 works not only for noise cancelling, but also for delivering stunning sound quality with 32-bit audio signal processing and the combination of DAC with amplifier functionality. This offers exceptionally high sound quality, best-in-class signal-to-noise ratio, and low distortion for portable devices.

Smart listening
The activity recognition feature—Adaptive Sound Control—automatically detects your physical situation and adjusts to changes. With Adaptive Sound Control, you can hear ambient sounds together with music when walking, announcements while waiting, and be immersed in music with noise cancellation when traveling by train or bus.

This smart listening experience is enabled by the SENSE ENGINE™.2 Also, preferences can be customized with the Sony | Headphones Connect app.3

You're in control
Quick Attention Mode lets you hear what is going on around you without taking your headphones off. Place the right hand over the earcup to decrease music volume instantly, which allows you to hear and quickly respond to those around you, enabling you to, for example, order a drink or food at a restaurant without taking the headphones off. There are also other ways to control the sound, such as swiping the touchpad on the right earcup to turn the volume up/down or to change track.

Another improvement is the Customizable Automatic Power Off function on the companion Headphones Connect app, which can enable the headphones to stay on and in noise cancellation mode without being connected to a device - perfect for reducing noise without listening to music, like when wanting to rest peacefully on a long haul flight.

Easy, practical, comfortable
The 1000XM3s have a new, slimmer silhouette and weigh less than their predecessor. The deeper earcup and thicker headband cushion add comfort. They also come with a stylish fabric case that will satisfy fashion-conscious users , as well as new, eye-catching color options of black or platinum silver with gold highlights.

Besides offering up to 30 hours of battery life4 with noise cancelling and Bluetooth® connectivity, the 1000XM3 headphones have an upgraded Quick Charging function that provides up to five hours of wireless playback after a mere 10 minutes of charging3 5 via a contemporary USB type-C™ port.

Voice calls are also made clearer with the introduction of multiple microphones, ideal for hands-free conversations.

The WH-1000XM3 industry-leading noise cancelling headphones have a suggested retail price of $349.99 and will be available from authorized retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon in September. For product specifications, please visit: https://www.sony.com/electronics/headband-headphones/wh-1000xm3

Next SONY Xperia smartphones will sport an LG OLED Display.

SONY is going to partner with LG Display in order to launch its upcoming new Xperia smartphones with OLED Display technology and rise up the company mobile business that has been struggling by some years now.

SONY has experienced a success on the OLED Display for the premium TV business and now  is ready to boost Xperia smartphones with Flexible OLED Display by LG.

Japan:  Sony’s market share in the global smartphone market is not high and remaining at a single digit, but ranks second to Apple in Japan. In the first half of last year, Sony enjoyed a market share of 14.9%, already beating Samsung Electronics (8.2%), Sharp (7.3%) and Fujitsu (8.9%).

SONY Xperia smartphones are here to stay: In order to embody user experience (UX) that Sony pursues and integrate various services, Sony has to maintain its smartphone business. This is the reason why Sony has not given up its smartphone business despite sluggish sales and deficits.

"Sony is expected to implant its success factors in the TV business in its smartphone business and develop products such as foldable phones."

SUPER BOWL 2018 : SONY on counterattack against Samsung and LG for North American TV markets.

SONY X900F| LED | 4K Ultra HD | High Dynamic Range (HDR) | Smart TV (Android TV)

Competitions within North American TV markets are becoming more fierce as ‘Super Bowl’, which is the biggest sports event in the U.S., is set to take place after two weeks. While Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, which are competing against each other for first and second places based on market shares, SONY is planning on a counterattack against them.

As number of consumers who want to enjoy sports events on large-screen TVs is increasing, it is likely that TVs that are bigger than 60 inches will be established as ‘trends’ during this peak season for TVs.

According to industries on the 22nd, an influential consumer media called Consumer Reports recently selected top 10 best TV models for Super Bowl. This ranking had four of LG Electronics’ products including its OLED TV called ‘LG OLED 65W7P’, three of Samsung Electronics’ products including its QLED TV called ‘QN65Q7C’, and three of SONY’s products including its OLED TV called ‘BraviaXBR-65A1E’.

‘Super Bowl’, which is the finals for American football, is the biggest sports event in the U.S. It was calculated that 111.3 million people watched last year’s Super Bowl. Based on market shares that looked for how many viewers who had their TVs turned on and watched last year’s Super Bowl, 72% of them watched last year’s Super Bowl.

Number of demands from consumers who are trying to enjoy Super Bowl comfortably at home is focused in January and it is one of the busiest seasons for TV manufacturers. According to an American retail market research company called Gap Intelligence, discount rate of TVs within two weeks before Super Bowl is the second highest followed by Black Friday. It was found out that TV manufacturers sold their TVs on 22% discount during Super Bowl season.

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have been working on their market shares by targeting this time around when number of demands for TVs soars due to Super Bowl. It is likely that they will carry out various discounts and marketing just like last year. It is expected that they will also carry out unprecedented promotions in order to clear out current inventories before they release their new 2018 TVs.

One thing to notice during this year’s Super Bowl is that SONY has also joined competitions with Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics that are in the lead. SONY’s influence has gotten stronger recently within North American TV markets as Consumer Report, which has more than 7 million subscribers, selected three of SONY’s products as top 10 best TV models for Super Bowl.

SONY has been threatening South Korean TV manufacturers by putting out premium OLED TVs since last year. “SONY has been threatening market shares of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.” said a representative for a TV industry. “SONY will try to revive itself through aggressive marketing strategies during this Super Bowl season.”

After a market research company called IHS analyzed market shares of TVs that cost more than $1,500 during the first quarter of 2017, SONY’s market shares (39%) more than doubled compared to previous quarter and was placed number one.

High-quality TVs that have large screens are also keywords that run through Super Bowl. Majority of industries agree that many consumers are looking for large-screen TVs that are bigger than 60 inches even if they are expensive in order to enjoy realistic sports events.

Actually 9 of 10 models selected by Consumer Reports are all 65-inch TVs and only one of them was 60-inch TV. Although 60-inch TVs are currently responsible for only 15% of market shares, it is expected that this value will grow by a lot due to Super Bowl.

“Demands for large-screen TVs have something in common with strategies of South Korean premium TV manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.” said a representative for a TV industry.

“It is likely that booming of TV markets will continue as global sports events such as Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Russia World Cup are also scheduled to take place this year.”

Q3 2017:

The average size of a TV shipped in Q3 2017 increased 1.7 percent to 42.1 inches, although when combined with the much reduced price erosion, helped TV revenues increase year-over-year for the first time in three years. The growth of 4K also contributed to the positive revenue result, with 4K mix increasing to 35 percent of units and 64 percent of revenues.

On a brand basis, due to the poor demand results in China, Chinese TV brands have been aggressively pursuing more business overseas, IHS Markit says. Hisense and TCL both significantly increased market share worldwide due to strong growth outside of China.

Samsung and LG Electronics are the top TV brands on a unit and revenue share basis worldwide, but TCl and Hisense have risen to numbers three and four respectively, both increasing share from a year ago to their highest TV shipment share yet. Samsung and LGE each also led on a revenue basis, while Sony grew its revenue share at number three to the highest level since 2011 on growing premium TV sales, including OLED TV.
