  • Built for entertainment buffs with built-in tablet-projector
  • 13-in media tablet with exhilarating 8 watts of sound including a subwoofer – a first for a tablet
  • Offers incredible up to 15 hours of battery life and now comes with a fourth mode - Hang

LONDON – October 9, 2014:  Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today announced a new way to read, watch, connect and create with the new YOGA Tablet 2 Pro. Developed with Ashton Kutcher, who joined Lenovo as a product engineer a year ago, the new YOGA Tablet 2 Pro redefines the tablet experience.

Not only does it surprise and delight users with a number of premium technologies, it delivers innovation that ties together hardware and software innovation in a new way.
Designed to focus on an elevated media experience, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has as its star feature a built-in Pico projector. The projector lets users turn inside walls into an instant TV or movie screen1. Lenovo paired this premium technology for great video with unbelievable sound by giving the tablet a first - an 8 watt sound system with a subwoofer. These exceptional features along with a host of other technologies make the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro like no other tablet.
Tablets Go Big Screen for Massive Multi-Media
As more and more people are using tablets to consume the ever growing volume of digital media – photos, videos and games - users are demanding bigger screens. A Lenovo research study found 88 percent of people are devouring large amounts of digital content on tablets at home, and more than half of them watch TV several times a week on their tablet2. That insight plus focus group feedback led to the creation of the larger 13-in screen YOGA Tablet 2 Pro media tablet. Designed from the ground up specifically for digitally-hungry consumers, it features a QHD 2560x1440 screen for life-like images.
A New Way to Watch and Hear
Whether presenting in a meeting to colleagues or lying at home watching a movie, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro makes it easy to view and share content with its Pico projector. Users can project a 16:9 high resolution image onto any surface for an instant 50-in theater experience. With automatic image adjustment and up to three hours playback time, users can get through a double feature before having to plug in the tablet. The tablet’s enhanced audio system also provides a captivating 8 watts of sound, quadrupling the speaker power of an average tablet. Its dual, large-chamber speakers are front-facing for dynamic audio, and a subwoofer on the back rounds it out with deep bass notes while Dolby® Audio and Wolfson® Master HiFi™ ensure a multi-channel listening experience, just like the movies.
More Modes, Performance and Software for Multilayered Lifestyles
The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro makes users’ lives easier in other ways too with a fourth mode – Hang. Now users can interact with the tablet in a new way by hanging it anywhere they want. They can also continue to enjoy the other three original modes: Hold for better angles for reading, Tilt for easily browsing online and Stand for close up content from digital libraries. While loaded with lots of useful features that adapt to user’s lifestyles, the Platinum-colored tablet remains thin and light at just 3.7mm thin and 950 grams.
The new YOGA Tablet 2 Pro also runs on the latest 4th generation Intel® Atom™ processor, helping power smooth multimedia playback and rendering, great for multitaskers. Also, for picture-perfect snapshots, it has an extremely high resolution 8 MP rear camera and plenty of storage equipped with 32GB and up to 64 GB via Micro SD. And with up to 15 hours of battery life and optional 4G3, users can stay mobile nearly around the clock. To keep up with their busy lifestyles, users need software to keep them organized, especially with the myriad of contacts contained in their different email and social media accounts. With the Brewster app that comes preloaded on the tablet, users now have an app to manage contacts for them. Brewster files contacts from various apps into one address book that merges, de-duplicates, and even adds images to contacts and also shares verified contact information to a user’s contacts.
Quotes:
“The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is the culmination of the most extensive research and feedback we’ve ever undertaken, and Ashton has been with us every step of the way, bringing new ideas to the table, challenging us and always advocating for users,” said Jeff Meredith, vice president, Mobile Business Group, Lenovo. “As a result, we’ve preserved the best features of the original YOGA Tablet – the modes and the long battery life – and now we’ve raised the bar completely with technologies like the projector that keep changing the way we think of tablets.”
"Our vision for the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro was to create the best tablet on the market," said Ashton Kutcher, Lenovo product engineer.  "To do that, we really looked at how people use tablets and what they needed for a better experience. The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has got the best sound, a dramatically brilliant camera and display, a new mode, a projector and top processor, so I think we  created the best tablet available. I can't wait for people to try it."

LG G3 brushed-metal look press renders pictures leak.

Francisco De Jesùs.

The LG G3 will have a 5.5" display panel with the breathtaking Quad HD 1440x2560 pixels resolution. The latest Snapdragon 805 chipset and 3 GB of RAM are cited to round up the pretty offering, as well as a 13 MP optically-stabilized camera with what seems like a two-tone flash. The Optimus UI might have also received a thorough overhaul, judging from LG's teaser video, and numerous reports for a more "personalized" experience.

All rumors that the phone will feature a special finish that looks like brushed metal, seem to hold water, though it's still likely to be made of polycarbonate.

The G3 might still feature the excellent screen-to-body ratio of its predecessor, offering a huge display bordering on the phablet realm, in a comparatively compact chassis. From the looks of it, the signature rear keys have been redesigned with a different, more premium look, and a finger-friendly texture. There is also a mysterious elliptic opening next to them maybe a fingerprint sensor, just an NFC button, or a heart rate monitor sensor. We will know that in May 27 when LG officialy unveils the G3 in London 6p.m (1 p.m USA) (12 noon West South America)

At this time the rumored specifications are:
5.5 inches Quad HD (QHD) AH-PS LCD panel 2560 x 1440 pixels, 538 pixels per inch.
Google’s Android 4.4.3 Kitkat
Two-tone dual-LED flash  13MP Camera,
3GB Of RAM,
3000mAh Battery

The G3 will reportedly come in two versions: one with 16GB of inbuilt storage and 2GB of RAM, and a second with 32GB inbuilt storage and 3GB of RAM. Both will support microSD cards, however. There’s also a 13-megapixel rear camera with a new type of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS+), 2 GHz octa-core processor MediaTek MT6595 or  a Snapdragon 801 processor with an Qualcomm Adreno 330 graphics processing unit.

UK: Alcatel-Lucent and BT claim worlds fastests internet speeds, reached 1.4 terabits per second.Press Release.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

The field trial, conducted by Alcatel-Lucent and BT over an existing 410km fibre link between the BT Tower in London and BT's Adastral Park research campus in Suffolk, reached speeds of 1.4 terabits per second.

Faster internet speeds have been measured in labs, but the latest trial is the first time such a fast connection has been achieved using "real world" conditions.

Kevin Drury, optical marketing leader at Alcatel-Lucent, told BBC News that the new development was akin to reducing the spaces between lanes on a busy highway, enabling more lanes of traffic to share the same space.

He said data-heavy transfers such as streaming video would travel in wide lanes, while narrow lanes would be assigned low-data transfers such as standard web pages.

"It allows them to increase their capacity without having to spend much more money."
Alcatel-Lucent told the BBC that the demand for higher bandwidth grew by around 35% every year, making the need for more efficient ways to transfer data a massively pressing issue for ISPs, particularly with the growing popularity of data-heavy online services, such as film-streaming website Netflix.
"An internet connection fast enough to download 44 uncompressed high-definition films per second has been successfully tested in England."

Press Release:

Alcatel-Lucent and BT achieve fastest real-world fiber speeds of 1.4Tb/s with a world record spectral efficiency of 5.7b/s/Hz over core network.

New ‘flexible grid’ infrastructure allows more efficient bundling of channels, (42.5% increase in spectral efficiency) and data speeds of up to 1.4 Terabits per second (Tb/s) achieved without deployment of more fiber

Paris, January 21, 2014 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and BT have today announced trial speeds of up to 1.4Tb/s with a record spectral efficiency of 5.7 bits per second per Hertz (b/s/Hz)on an existing core fiber connection. This is believed to be the fastest speed ever achieved in commercial grade hardware in a real-world environment and is equivalent to transmitting 44 uncompressed HD films in a single second.
The field trial, conducted over an existing fiber link between the BT Tower in London and BT’s Adastral Park research campus in Suffolk, used a new ‘flexible grid’ infrastructure (Flexgrid) to vary the gaps between transmission channels, usually set at 50Gigahertz (GHz). By increasing the density of channels on the fiber, this approach achieved up to 42.5 percent greater data transmission efficiency compared to today’s standard networks.
The trial demonstrated that use of the Flexgrid approach can increase BT’s core network capacity using existing optical fibers, potentially reducing the expense of laying more fiber as bandwidth demands grow. This could allow BT to more easily scale its core network capacity to meet consumer and business demands for more bandwidth-hungry services such as streaming video, whilst more efficiently using its existing core fiber infrastructure.

The trial was conducted through the overlaying of an “Alien Super Channel” comprised of seven 200 Gigabits per second (Gb/s) channels bundled together to provide a combined capacity of 1.4Tb/s. By reducing the spectral spacing between the channels from 50GHz to 35GHz using the 400Gb/s Photonic Services Engine (PSE) technology on the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), spectral efficiency is enhanced by almost 43%. The 1830 PSS can be used as an optical extension shelf of the 7750 Service Router (SR) and the 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS). Flexgrid is the key to creating high-capacity, spectrally efficient super channels. The super channel is “alien” because it operates transparently on top of BT’s existing optical network.

Key Facts:

  • During October and November of 2013, BT and Alcatel-Lucent successfully demonstrated a number of world-leading high-speed alien wavelength technical achievements, including a record spectral efficiency of 5.7b/s/Hz which is equivalent to fitting a 1Tb super channel in less than 200GHz spectrum.
  • The speeds were achieved on a 410km fiber link between BT’s Adastral Park research campus in Ipswich and the BT Tower in London
  • The trials were performed using production equipment that was software reconfigurable between 200Gb/s using 16 QAM modulation and 100Gb/s using QPSK modulation
  • Alien Wavelengths allow telecom operators like BT to introduce new features and technology without the need to update the existing optical transport infrastructure
  • Flexgrid maximizes the spectral efficiency of the installed fiber infrastructure, deferring the need to deploy costly new fiber infrastructure
  • Trial and evaluation of the 1.4Tb/s alien super channel showed stable, error-free operation, when being transmitted with a mix of 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s native wavelengths. This was achieved for standard 50GHz sub-channel spacing and for flexgrid with sub-channel spacing down to 35GHz
  • Working with BT to efficiently and cost effectively increase high-speed network capacity is aligned with The Shift Plan, the industrial strategy to reposition Alcatel-Lucent as a specialist vendor of IP Networking and Ultra-Broadband Access

Quotes:
Neil J. McRae, Chief Network Architect at BT said: “Investing for the future is core to BT’s strategy and this outstanding achievement demonstrates that BT can easily introduce new features and technologies across our core network maximizing the efficiency of our existing infrastructure. Working with Alcatel-Lucent on this trial has been highly productive in demonstrating the viability of an alien wavelength approach”

Dr Tim Whitley, BT’s MD of Research and Innovation said: “BThas alonghistory of leading innovation in telecommunications, from the earliest days of the electric telegraph to today’s global fiber networks. These trials continue that tradition,as weworkwithAlcatel-Lucentto push the boundaries of fiber technology, allowing us tosupport the ever increasing bandwidth required by our customers, and deliver new and exciting services which rely on fast, data-hungry applications”

Cormac Whelan, CEO, Alcatel-Lucent UK & Ireland said: “As part of our long-standing relationship, BT and Alcatel-Lucent continue to work together to use innovation from Bell Labs, Alcatel-Lucent and BT Research and Development to move the industry forward and meet the ever evolving needs of the marketplace. These trials represent another step forwards by BT and Alcatel-Lucent in this continual evolution”

Pac-Man Giant version played on the facade of a London building.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

For the inner child in all of us, what could I do to play Pac -Man even better?

How about playing a giant version on the facade of a building?

In London, England , that dream came true . Namco Bandai and The Gadget Show ( a program tech news / gossip / reviews on Channel 5 in the UK ) have partnered to create a game of Pac -Man as you've never seen before.

With 676.3 square meters, the London Millenium Mill building served as game screen . In fact , the game was so great that broke a Guinness World Record for " largest projection where you can play."

And how do you play a giant game of Pac -Man ? With a joystick and a giant control, tailor-made of course .

You should see something magical games of our childhood enlarged and more exciting because we do a lot. Earlier this year in Brazil, a building in Sao Paulo was manipulated to become the largest machine in the world of video games .

With iPads as controls , Brazilians could play Pac -Man , Space Invaders Tetris and even on the side of that building.

Last spring , some hackers of  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT ) in the United States, turned a 21-story building in Cambridge in a giant game of Tetris.

In 2012 , a director of video game created a version 360 degree immersive 3D Pac -Man in New York , United States. Just watching the video dizzys you. But a try worth it.

This trend clears us of the daily routine in a spectacular way . A game of a building size help us to recreate the feeling print and awe that we all knew as kids.
