CEBIT 2015: Blackberry launches the world`s most secure tablet the SecuTABLET.

Working alongside with IBM and Samsung, Blackberry has closed the circle of the chain of the Federal Security Network, adding the last link to it.

Subject to certification of the SecuTABLET, German government agencies will have a new way to access BlackBerry’s most secure and complete communications network in the world,” Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle, chief executive officer of Secusmart GmbH, said.
The SecuTABLET, is  based on Samsung's Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and being presented by BlackBerry unit Secusmart at tech fair CeBIT 2015 in Germany.

“Security is ingrained in every part of BlackBerry’s portfolio, which includes voice and data encryption solutions,” said Quelle.

The device was undergoing certification by the German Federal Office for Information Security for secure rating, the statement said, adding that the new tablet used the same security technology as the Secusmart Security Card.

The cost for this level of security is not cheap. While the consumer version of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is around $500, the SecuTABLET tablet will ring in around $2,500 CDN (US$2,380).

Press Release:

CeBIT 2015: SecuTABLET – The Secure Tablet for Public Sector and Enterprises.

  • SecuTABLET provides high-security mobile communication for national and international authorities.
Düsseldorf – Secusmart, a BlackBerry company, is presenting with IBM at CeBIT 2015, the SecuTABLET, a high-security tablet based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. With the new secure tablet for national and international public sector markets and enterprises, data that is subject to special security requirements can be used on the move. Personal applications or those that are not additionally secured, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and WhatsApp, can also be used.
The solution is undergoing certification at the German Federal Office for Information Security for the German VS-NfD (classified – for official use only) security rating.
The SecuTABLET is a new, secure tablet that supplements the SecuSUITE for BlackBerry 10 portfolio and can be seamlessly integrated into existing SecuSUITE infrastructures.
“Security is ingrained in every part of BlackBerry’s portfolio, which includes voice and data encryption solutions,” said Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle, CEO of Secusmart GmbH, a BlackBerry company. “National and international government customers have entrusted their voice and data communications with the Secusmart Security Card for years. This same technology is what secures the new SecuTABLET. Working alongside IBM and Samsung, we have added the last link in the chain of the Federal Security Network. Subject to certification of the SecuTABLET, German government agencies will have a new way to access BlackBerry’s most secure and complete communications network in the world.”
Joint expertise for global security of communication
The IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) study on Mobility Impact notes that 63 percent of public sector respondents would appreciate mobile access to their specialized applications like budget and controlling. These data are subject to special security requirements. Access via conventional mobile devices is ruled out.
“The SecuTABLET closes a supply gap and opens up for government and administrations an opportunity to derive greater benefit from digitization and the mobile Internet, with system integration as a fundamental success factor,” said Stefan Hefter, Senior Management Consultant with IBM. “We have contributed our longstanding expertise as a system integrator for mobile solutions. The technology used to make mobile apps secure by means of so-called wrapping has already proven its worth in the United States.”
IBM has provided the secure app wrapping technology for the SecuTABLET, and assists in implementing the high security solutions by Secusmart within the infrastructures of the various clients inside the governmental sector.
As a BlackBerry company, Secusmart enhances the company’s commitment to remaining the leading provider in enterprise mobile security. BlackBerry is the only mobile device management (MDM) vendor that has achieved the “Full Operational Capability” level of certification for operation on U.S. Department of Defense Networks. Samsung offer for buying Blackberry is not enough.

Reuters  is coming back with the story and say their sources that want to keep it private ,people familiar with the matter and documents Reuters have seen, are exposing a Samsung buying Blackberry proposal offer.

Samsung is interested more  on the Blackberry patents than in the whole company. However the South Korean giant will have to buy the whole package, work with what they really need and shut down what they don`t need. The offer reachs to $7.5 billion.

Samsung initialy offer $13.35 to $15.49 per share, representing a premium of 38 % to 60% over Blackberry`s current price.

Ross Healy, a portfolio manager at MacNicol & Associates, which owns a small stake in Blackberry, said Samsung's reported offer undervalues the company. “To get a hold of the BlackBerry network and all its secure features, that would be a real coup for Samsung, looking to differentiate themselves from Apple and from others," he said.

The road is not easy for Samsung.  In 2013, the Canadian government had strongly hinted to BlackBerry that any sale to China’s Lenovo Group would be rejected due to security concerns, sources told Reuters at the time. Harper's office wouldn't comment on the report on Wednesday but sources familiar with the Canadian government's thinking said a Samsung buyout was unlikely to raise such concerns.

BlackBerry announced a high-profile security partnership with Samsung in November. The partnership will wed BlackBerry's security platform with the South Korean company's own security software for its Galaxy devices.

Shares of Blackberry jumped as much as 30 percent on heavy volume in afternoon trading at $29.71 per share in New York.

RIM launched today its brand new Blackberry Passport smartphone for Mobile Professionals. Video Ad. Press Release.

While smartphones have provided professionals the ability to conduct business when mobile, many tasks are a challenge on the narrow all touch screens that we’ve become used to. With BlackBerry® Passport, we set out to create a smartphone that would break through the sea of all-touch devices and deliver a step-change in productivity. BlackBerry Passport shows there is a better, wider way to accomplish more. To work wide.

RIM from Canada, annnounced today the availabilty of its new Blackberry Pasport smartphone that redefines productivity for mobile professionals with boundary breaking design and features, the company says.

“As we set out to design BlackBerry Passport, we were guided by a simple yet challenging idea – to set aside the limitations of traditional design and to instead simply build a device that fundamentally changes the way business professionals get work done on their smartphone,” said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry. “The BlackBerry Passport was created to drive productivity and to break through the sea of rectangular-screen, all-touch devices.”
Highlight features of the BlackBerry Passport include:
  • Large High-Resolution Square Screen – The BlackBerry Passport includes a 4.5” square screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio, 1440x1440 pixel (453 dpi) HD display and Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 for added strength.
  • Innovative BlackBerry® Keyboard – The BlackBerry Passport’s revolutionary new keyboard brings innovation to input with a responsive touch surface like a trackpad that lets you perform many touch functions directly on the keyboard. You can scroll web pages, flick to type or slide along the keys to move the cursor, leaving the full screen space for viewing.
  • BlackBerry® 10 OS 10.3 – The BlackBerry Passport comes preloaded with the new BlackBerry 10.3 operating system, including new features such as BlackBerry Assistant, BlackBerry Blend and Amazon Appstore. It has a fresh look that incorporates updated icons and an instant action bar so that each user’s most commonly accessed functions are in the center of their screen.
  • Best-in-Class Battery Life – The 3450 mAh battery is the largest among the top selling smartphones and phablets and, when tested against a very active user, provides up to 30 hours of mixed use. It’s our best battery power to date.*
