US Rural Cellular Association (RCA) has launched an Android app store.
The US Rural Cellular Association (RCA) has launched an Android app store that has been approved by and is exclusive to its member operators.
The aim of the app store is to deliver good quality apps to consumers and to help smaller operators compete more effectively in the app market to build brand recognition and customer loyalty.
The Association did not state how many apps are available in its catalogue, instead stating that it is "focused on delivering a quality, not quantity approach towards mobile applications."
All apps on the store are certified, giving consumers peace of mind, and paid apps can be charged directly to users' mobile bills.
VP of industry development at RCA Bradley Blanken said the pooling of resources and economies of scale created through the app store will help smaller operators who can’t compete in other app markets due to a lack of resources or ability to provide stores on their own.
The RCA is the US association for more than 100 operators doing business in rural and regional areas of the country. The app store is part of the RCA’s Industry Ecosystem Development Programme which was launched at the organisation’s Competitive Carriers Global Expo.
