UPDATED: Rumors: Is HP webOS Enyo team going to Google ?

UPDATES:  Sources close to HP tell us that it won't be the entire Enyo team leaving, though Matt McNulty — the man in charge of the project — will be among the departing crew.

We've now received an official statement from HP, which references the roadmap (with September release) announced back in January:

We're pleased with the traction Enyo has gained to date and plan to continue its development along with the open source community. The Open webOS project is on schedule and we remain committed to the roadmap announced in January.

At this time apparently it is a rumor. However the Verge is pointing out the news as exclusive:

The HP team responsible for Enyo — webOS's HTML5-based application framework that debuted on the TouchPad — will be leaving the company and starting at Google shortly, The Verge has learned. What this means for the future of Open webOS is unclear; Enyo and the developers supporting it are central to HP's open source strategy for the operating system going forward, and it's hard to say whether this move will have any effect on the planned late 2012 release for version 1.0.

Why Oracle buying webOS is not so crazy?

Maybe you will not agree if Oracle buy webOS, but ZDNet has made some analysis of why it is not so crazy:

•     Oracle is trying to sue Google into oblivion for Android. Oracle wants billions from Google and a trial has been pushed off until 2012. A purchase of WebOS would give Oracle more patents that could be used as ammo in that lawsuit.

•     The return on a WebOS investment could be delivered via a lawsuit. If Oracle’s lawsuit vs. Google doesn’t work out, WebOS could be leveraged elsewhere.

•     A WebOS purchase could be a thaw in relations with HP. The Oracle-HP relationship is strained to say the least. However, new CEO Meg Whitman may be able to improve relations. If Oracle took WebOS off HP’s hands it may be a sign of detente.

•     Oracle is now a hardware player. Some of that WebOS intellectual property could come in handy in some form.

Also ZDNet says; Oracle is probably a long shot to buy HP’s WebOS. However, crazier things in tech have happened.
