CES 2012: ViewSonic Previews New Tablets, Smartphones and Multi-Touch Displays.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

ViewSonic Corp. (South Hall 36631), a leading global provider of computing, consumer electronics and communications solutions, is charging into the New Year with exciting new products on display at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.

Launching into the tablet market in 2011, ViewSonic plans to further this impressive momentum by expanding the ViewPad® product family with new 10-inch business and consumer-focused tablets running Windows® and Android™ operating systems. ViewSonic's ViewPad tablet line is the ideal choice for sharing, reading, working and playing on a mobile device.

The ViewPad 7e, an Android-based 7" tablet offers Amazon® services for Android integration, Amazon Kindle for eBook reading and RiteTouch for writing directly on the screen. The business line of tablets, which include the ViewPad 10pro, run Windows 7 Professional and provide the ability to boot Android as well.

Pushing the envelope of innovation, ViewSonic has partnered with EXOPC to build one of the first EXOdesks, a 32" 10-point touch table top which runs a custom user interface open to HTML5 developers. The desk, on display during CES, will be powered by an Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Intel's integrated graphics and will run Windows 7 operating system.

Leveraging the company's display heritage, ViewSonic will show an impressive universal display with projected capacitive multi-touch input. It is designed to allow consumers and business professionals to connect their smartphone, tablets and laptops wirelessly and share photos or stream media content from services such as YouTube, and extend desktop mode for dual display.

"The past year has seen ViewSonic at the cutting edge of visual display technology, including 3D and touch, and our vision for 2012 further propels us into every aspect of work and the home. We believe a multi-touch, vivid and compelling user interface will be the wave of the future and the innovations we plan to showcase at CES 2012, including the much-buzzed about EXOdesk, support that belief," said Jeff Volpe, president for ViewSonic Americas.

In addition, members of the ViewSonic Finch Club™ are eligible to receive 2,000 points by simply updating their profile at the booth. The updated partner portal is faster and easier to use with more rewards and more ways to profit and grow.

ViewSonic to launch 7-inch tablet with Google Honeycomb OS

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

ViewSonic plans to launch the world's first 7-inch tablet PC running on Google Honeycomb OS soon. The 7-inch tablet will be powered by a dual-core Tegra CPU with a display solution of 1024 by 600 and support Wi-Fi technology initially.

The company pointed out that Google is currently working on optimizing its Android Market applications to allow them to better fit onto 10.1-inch tablet PCs, and is also working on resolving some issues with Android's compatibility on 7-inch tablet PCs.

If Google is able to resolve the issues before the end of July, when the Taipei Computer Application Show will start, ViewSonic plans to start selling its 7-inch device at the show, and if not, the company will push pre-orders.

ViewSonic pointed out that smartphones have a high market penetration rate in Taiwan and any smartphone with Android 2.2 or above can be used as a wireless router for tablet PCs to connect to the Internet; therefore, the company will initially only push Wi-Fi support for its 7-inch tablet PC.

In consideration of markets such as India or Indonesia, which do not have a strong Wi-Fi environment as in Taiwan, ViewSonic, in the near future, will also launch 3G models to better serve these markets, the company noted.

Europe: ViewSonic 7-inch tablet PC shipments goes 60,000 units monthly

WorldWideTech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

LCD monitor brand vendor ViewSonic is seeing its 7-inch tablet PC shipments reach 55,000-60,000 units per month benefiting mainly from strong sales in Europe, according to sources from channel retailers.

ViewSonic has also started selling its 10.1-inch tablet PC, ViewPad 10s, which has a better hardware configuration for the upcoming Android 3.0 operating system. Although the device is currently still using Android 2.2, once Google releases authorization to its downstream partners, the device will be upgraded instantly.

The ViewPad 10s adopts Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor featuring support for 1080P video and Adobe Flash 10.1 as well as a 10-inch LED screen with a resolution of 1024 by 600, 512MB memory, and 16GB storage space.

Tablets: Viewsonic Launches 7 and 10 Inch Viewpad Tablets

Viewsonic's latest tablets have already become available for pre-order in the U.K., but the company on Monday announced that two products, the Viewpad 7 and Viewpad 10, will soon be available in the US.
The Viewpad 7 features a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen, Android 2.2, front and back cameras, with WiFi and 3-G connectivity built in. It will have 512 MB of free internal memory, with space for a microSD card. Though not intended to be used primarily as an ebook reader, the Viewpad 7 will come with the Kobo reading application. The Viewpad 7 will support apps from the Android Market, and thanks to the phone-like 800-by-480 resolution, apps will likely look better than they would on the higher-resolution screens on some tablets.
The larger member of the Viewpad line, the Viewpad 10, makes some bolder—though not necessarily smarter—choices. The 10-inch tablet will dual-boot Windows 7 Home Premium, and Android 1.6, to give users the option of using all their Windows applications—Outlook and the like—or booting Android to get a more tablet-friendly experience. It sports a 1024-by-600 screen with capacitive multi-touch, a 16-GB SSD hard drive, and a 1.66-GHz processor—it's equipped to run most desktop apps, and its specs sound more like a laptop or desktop than a tablet. With a 1.3-megapixel webcam and built-in microphone, it's also well-suited for video conferencing.
The Viewpad 7, geared more toward consumers, goes on sale late this year, for a price of $479. The Viewpad 10, clearly the business-centric model in the Viewpad line, will be available early next year for $629. Whether either will make a splash in the torrential downpour of tablets that is inevitably on its way to stores for the holiday season remains to be seen.
