LG Display presents: The Realistic and Natural Color of LCD WCG.

Color gamut refers to the range of colors that a screen can display. Basically, a wider color gamut expresses more colors, and the more colors that are displayed, the more realistic the image will appear. 

Therefore, the color gamut is commonly used as an index for reproduction of high-resolution images. But what can be done to increase the color gamut? The answer to that question lies in various WCG (Wide Color Gamut) technologies that could increase the color gamut.

Various Efforts to Increase the Color Gamut

There are multiple methods of increasing the color gamut with WCG technology. The first method is through changing the color filter. This method entails controlling the width of the color filter or changing the RGB concentration, mix ratio and color type to create a broader color gamut.

The second method is to change the LED package to high-color package in order to display more colors by controlling the backlight unit. The third method is to install fluorescent quantum dot film to the backlight unit to increase the color gamut.

LG Electronics showed off their Wide Color LED TV and Quantum Dot TV with quantum dot film at CES and at the new product release conference in 2015. 

Both products stood out as displays with a higher color gamut and more natural colors than other products on the market. The Wide Color TV received the public recognition for superb performance.

LG Display WCG Technology Accounts for both Efficiency and High-performance

LG Display consistently strives to deliver on improved performance and customer satisfaction. LG Display products can be considered to have a natural, distortion-fee image even with an increased color gamut and products with high performance and reasonable cost to consumers. 

LG Display favors the high-color package control method to using a quantum dot film for improving the color gamut to deliver these high-performance and reasonable-priced products.

On the other hand, the LED package modification method makes high-color reconstruction possible while producing results very similar to the results produced when using the quantum dot method. 

LG Display continues to employ diverse technologies and deliver efficient and high-performance products. We have now discussed LG Display’s efforts with diverse WCG technology to produce more natural colors.

LG Electronics USA joined forces with Netflix for the official launch today of LG's 2015 4K ULTRA HD (UHD) OLED and LED TVs, home audio products, monitors and projectors at a joint event in New York City.

At LG's "Dare to See OLED" event, coinciding with Netflix's 4K streaming premiere of their much-anticipated original series Marvel's Daredevil on April 10, LG announced pricing and availability for its 2015 hero product, the 65-inch class (64.5 inches measured diagonally) EG9600 Art Slim Curved 4K OLED, available nationally later this month.

The official introduction of LG's 2015 4K UHD TVs coincides with the first designations for the Netflix Recommended TV program, which helps consumers identify televisions that offer both the best Netflix experience and superior smart TV performance overall. LG announced that its new 2015 EG9600 4K UHD OLED Smart TV and UF9500 PRIME 4K UHD Smart TV with a wider color gamut that delivers a broader range of purer colors, as well as the UF8500, UF7700 and UF7600 4K UHD LED Smart TV series all featuring webOS 2.0, were designated Netflix Recommended TVs based on Netflix's rigorous, criteria-based smart TV evaluation program.

LG's Smart TVs are the first and only 4K UHD TVs to be designated as Netflix Recommended TVs, in large part due to LG's updated webOS 2.0 platform, which delivers a faster and superior smart TV performance, as well as a streamlined user interface – both important factors in achieving the best Netflix experience possible and qualifying as Netflix Recommended TVs.*

A key feature of LG's 2015 TVs, webOS 2.0 offers simple switching to let users quickly shift to any content that they'd like, as well as simple discovery to help find new sources of entertainment, including the GoPro Channel app, which was launched exclusively on LG webOS Smart TVs earlier this year. LG also announced that its 2014 webOS-enabled Smart TVs will receive a software update later this year, allowing current webOS users to experience the improved webOS 2.0 platform without having to purchase new hardware.

"Black is important, no question, as well as grayscale reproduction," explained Pete Putman, president of ROAM Consulting LLC. "For every shade of gray that you can see, there are thousands of possible color combinations. OLED gives you the grayscale reproduction to see all of those color combinations from deep black to full white."

The session culminated with LG and Netflix revealing an exclusive sneak peek at the new Netflix original series, Marvel's Daredevil premiering globally on April 10.

Matt Lloyd, director of photography for Marvel's Daredevil, noted regarding OLED technology, "I've not seen anything comparable to it, even in the color suite, from pure black, all the way to 100 percent luminance. To be able to look at something on set and make the decisions we made, knowing and trusting they would look like that on this screen, is incredibly empowering."

Consumers in 15 Countries Given the Chance to Try

LG’s New Flagship Smartphone and Share Their Experiences Online 

 As part of its most ambitious smartphone introduction yet, LG Electronics (LG) will select 4,000 consumers in 15 countries who will “test drive” the all new LG G4 smartphone weeks before its official launch. Kicking off today in Korea, the program will target consumers in the following 14 other markets in the days ahead: Turkey, Indonesia, Singapore, United States, China, India, Brazil, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong.

Participants will be selected from applicants based on their entry responses (selection criteria may vary in each market). Individuals can increase their chances of being selected by sharing their application experience on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Weibo. Once selected, participants in each country will be given an LG G4 for up to 30 days to experience its unique design and features, including its personalized UX, high performance camera and impressive display for sharing online.
