It`s Official: Apple sends out invitations for March 21st event. What is expected so far?

Apple will live stream its March 21st keynote event at 10 a.m PDT and is expected to unveil the 4 inch iPhone SE with the same power and features of the current iPhone 6s and 6S Plus but without the 3D touch feature.

An iPad Pro 9.7 inch with detachable keyboard also known as 2 in 1 hybrids with the same features of the iPad Pro BIG brother of  12.9 inch. Will also arrive with the smart connector and Apple Pencil. The difference between them will be the price.

And new watch bands, more...will see.

The event will be held at Apple's campus located on Infinite Loop in Cupertino.  Town Hall.

Requirements: Live streaming uses Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. HLS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later or an Apple TV (4th generation).

The developer version of Android N   OS  is now available for developers only. A commercial version will arrive probably this Summer.

According to Dieter Bohn from The Verge the OS is more faster and fluid than previous versions of Android.

New features like the split screen multi tasking, vision settings ,animations are much faster than they are in Android M Marshmallow. More details on the video:

First Preview of Android N: Developer APIs & Tools are up.

Today we’re happy to announce a Developer Preview of the N release of Android! We’re doing something a little different this year by releasing the preview early… really early. By releasing a “work in progress” build earlier in development, we have more time to incorporate developer feedback. 

Also, the earlier preview allows us to hand off the final N release to device makers this summer, so they can get their hands on the latest version of Android earlier than ever. We’re looking forward to getting your feedback as you get your apps ready for N.

Here are a few APIs and features we want to highlight which are available as a part of the Android N Developer Preview today, with more to come as we continue developing the release:

Multi-window - A new manifest attribute called android:resizableActivity is available for apps targeting N and beyond. If this attribute is set to true, your activity can be launched in split-screen modes on phones and tablets. You can also specify your activity's minimum allowable dimensions, preventing users from making the activity window smaller than that size. 

Lifecycle changes for multi-window are similar to switching from landscape to portrait mode: your activity can handle the configuration change itself, or it can allow the system to stop the activity and recreate it with the new dimensions. In addition, activities can also go into picture-in-picture mode on devices like TVs, and is a great feature for apps that play video; be sure to set android:supportsPictureInPicture to true to take advantage of this.

Direct reply notifications: The RemoteInput notification API, which was originally added for Android Wear, now works in N for phones and tablets. Using the RemoteInput API enables users to reply to incoming message notifications quickly and conveniently, without leaving the notification shade. Learn more here.

Bundled notifications - With N, you can use the Notification.Builder.setGroup() method to group notifications from the same app together - for example individual messages from a messaging app. Grouped notifications can be expanded into individual notifications by using a two-finger gesture or tapping the new expansion button. Efficiency - We launched Doze in Marshmallow to save battery when your device is stationary. In N, Doze additionally saves battery whenever the screen turns off. If you’ve already adapted your app for Doze, e.g. by using the GCM high priority message for urgent notifications, then you’re set; if not, here’s how to get started. Also, we’re continuing to invest in Project Svelte, an effort to reduce the memory needs of Android so that it can run on a much broader range of devices, in N bymaking background work more efficient. If you use JobScheduler for background work, you’re already on the right track. If not, N is a good time to make that switch. And to help you out, we’re making JobScheduler even more capable, so now you can use JobScheduler to react to things like changes to content providers.

Improved Java 8 language support - We’re excited to bring Java 8 language features to Android. With Android's Jack compiler, you can now use many popular Java 8 language features, including lambdas and more, on Android versions as far back as Gingerbread. The new features help reduce boilerplate code. For example, lambdas can replace anonymous inner classes when providing event listeners. Some Java 8 language features --like default and static methods, streams, and functional interfaces -- are also now available on N and above. With Jack, we’re looking forward to tracking the Java language more closely while maintaining backward compatibility.

Get started

The N Developer Preview includes an updated SDK with system images for testing on the official Android emulator and on Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Nexus 9, and Pixel C devices (and to help test out these features on a tablet, developers can get a $150 discount on Pixel C).

This initial preview release is for developers only and not intended for daily use or consumer use. We plan to update the N Developer Preview system images often during the Developer Preview program. As we get closer to a final product, we’ll be inviting consumers to try it out as well.

We are also making it easier for you to try out N on your development devices with the new Android Beta Program. Starting today, you can update your Android devices to the developer preview of N and receive ongoing updates via OTA by visitingg.co/androidbeta.

Hong Kong: Zara AI supergirl interacts by reading emotions.

In the age of artificial intelligence, robots are becoming more empathetic to human feelings -- and in multiple languages, too.

To realize their dream of holding a natural conversation with a robot, a team of university researchers in Hong Kong have unveiled a new emotion-recognizing AI technology as part of scientific efforts to make human-robot interactions on a par with human-to-human communication.

Professor Pascale Fung and a team of computer engineering scientists at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have developed a cloud-based prototype machine, named "Zara the Supergirl," that can chat with people.

Zara, a cute female character on a computer screen, starts off a conversation by asking for information. "What is your earliest memory?" "Tell me about your mother." By analyzing images of users' appearances captured via a web camera, Zara can determine some of their personal attributes, such as gender and ethnicity, and choose one of two programmed languages, either Mandarin or English, to talk with them. 

It takes about five minutes for Zara to grasp human personality traits, and based on them, she gradually deepens her understanding of a person through various conversations. Surprisingly, she can even crack some simple jokes.

Building a better communicator

Robotics technology is becoming very advanced, however, professor Fung said, "Every robot should have an individual personality in order to communicate better. It is not an ATM machine. In communication, empathy is very important to build a relationship based on trust."

Zara is capable of analyzing people's facial expressions and their tone of voice so that she can tailor her conversations to her users. In addition to Chinese and English, Fung and her team are looking to add French to Zara's repertoire of languages. A multilingual emotion-recognition AI robot is "very rare in the world," Fung said.

She unveiled her invention at the annual summer meeting of the World Economic Forum in Dalian, in northeastern China, in September last year. A number of offers for commercializing Zara have come in from businesses and investors, she said.

Zara is still in the cloud today, but Fung aims to "give her real physical body within two years." The professor is also looking to promote industry-university collaboration in the robotics field.

Humanoid robots, such as SoftBank Group's Pepper and Erica, a female android developed by Osaka University and other research institutions, have recently grabbed much media attention in Japan.

Given the projected growth in the humanoid robot market going forward, Fung and her research team are facing the need to establish a practical AI robot technology to set Zara apart from the rest of the pack. To that end, Fung said one of their goals is to create emotions-reading robots that can take care of elderly people and children.

Worldwide Detachable tablets market to grow 73% in 2016. Windows 53.3%, iOS 28.5%, Android 18.2%

Worldwide tablet shipments will drop to 195 million units in 2016, down -5.9% from 2015, according to a new International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker forecast. 

Looking beyond 2016, IDC expects the overall market to return to positive growth, albeit single digit, driven by growing demand for detachable devices. This somewhat hybrid category that brings together slate tablets and PCs is expected to grow from 16.6 million shipments in 2015 to 63.8 million in 2020.

"Beyond the growing demand for detachable devices, we're also witnessing an increase in competition within this segment that will help drive design, innovation, and a decline in average prices," said Jean Philippe Bouchard, Research Director, Tablets. 

 "At the latest Mobile World Congress, we saw new entrants, like Alcatel and Huawei, coming from the mobile space and expanding their portfolio to address the demand for detachables. Everyone in the industry recognizes that traditional personal computers like desktops and notebooks will potentially be replaced by detachables in the coming years and this is why we will see a lot of new products being introduced this year."

The change from slate form factor to detachables will bring along two other changes to the tablet industry. First, devices with larger screen sizes (9" and above) will experience growth throughout the forecast while those under 9 inches will decline. And second, Microsoft-based devices will begin taking share from the other platforms, most notably Android.

"This momentous shift in form factor will bring along the first significant impact of Windows-based devices that the tablet market has seen," said Ryan Reith, Program Director with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Device Trackers. 

 "Windows 10 seems to be making headway in both the PC and tablet markets, mainly driven by devices with larger screen sizes. Despite the free licensing on products under 9 inches the growth for Windows-based tablets will be primarily on devices with displays between 9 and 13 inches. 

Until we see a day where touch is introduced for Mac OS X and inroads are paved to bring Android and Chrome more closely aligned, we believe Windows remains the logical choice for detachable products."

LG to start selling the LG Stylus 2 with Android M 6.0

LG Electronics Inc. said Tuesday it will start selling its new budget smartphone that comes with a price tag of around US$300, the latest in a series of budget smartphone models.

The LG Stylus 2, scheduled to go on sales this week in South Korea, was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Spain last month. The 5.7-inch smartphone weighs only 145 grams and is 7.4 millimeters thick.

The local factory price of the device stands at 396,000 won (US$329). The smartphone will also start sales in major countries, including those in North America and Europe this month.

The company said the smartphone will come with a pen that has a cloth tip for an almost natural writing experience, along with convenient menus and note-related options.

Another significant feature is an alarm that notifies users when the pen is a certain distance from the smartphone, making sure users don't lose their writing tool.

The LG Stylus 2 boasts a 13-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel one on the front. The replaceable battery has a capacity of 3,000 mAh.

SONY Mobile starts rolling out Android M 6.0 to the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 tablet.

Sony Mobile is starting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet. Firmware build 32.1.A.1.163 represents Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the same as the version number on the Xperia Z5 series.

At the time of writing, the update is live on both Wi-Fi (SGP712) and LTE (SGP771) variants of the Xperia Z4 Tablet and the single-SIM Xperia Z3+ (E6553), however we expect the Xperia Z3+ Dual to follow asap.
