Todd Bradley webOS shut down: Unfounded Rumor.

We continue to invest  on webOS software , we recent update webOS to millions of webOS users out there that have webos products, Todd Bradley said.

When Bloomberg West TV host Emily Changbrought up today’s report that HP was moving to shut down the webOS Global Business Unit in the very near future, Bradley responded that it was “an unfounded rumor,” and that HP has “phenomenal software and phenomenal talent” in the webOS GBU that they need to utilize more effectively.

webOS is not shutting down.

Recent rumors speculating from an irreponsable site  that generalize here   posted Oct 28, 2011 at 07:18 BST  UK,have said ONE webOS employee told them : “"There's a 95% chance we all get laid off between now and November, and I for one am thinking it's for the best,", is circulating now around the web tech sites, taking it as  valid source.

Dear reader I remember you that yesterday Oct 27, 2011 in a worldwide public webcast Meg Whitman, President and Chief Executive Officer; Cathie Lesjak, Chief Financial Officer ; and Todd Bradley, EVP of the Personal Systems Group, recently  answered to the question  we transcript from HP themselves and made by

Bill Shope - Goldman Sachs – Analyst

Okay, great. Thanks, guys. In light of this decision, can you give us an update on how you're thinking about your tablet market strategy, both near term and longer term?

Todd Bradley - Hewlett Packard Co. - EVP, Personal Systems Group

Well Bill, this is Todd. That thinking hasn't changed. We're continuing to focus on a Microsoft-based-- the tablet that we have and the ones that will develop on Windows 8.

I think from a webOS perspective, that's kind of the next piece of work to complete. I know Meg and I are working, Meg, the whole team of Meg, Cathie, myself, Jon Rubinstein working very, very hard and as quickly as we can to make the right decisions about that product.

Meg Whitman - Hewlett Packard Co. - President and CEO

Let me just add, I think we need to be in the tablet business, and we are certainly going to be there with Windows 8. And so we're going to make another run at this business. And we're going to make a decision about the long-term future of webOS within HP over the next couple of months. And as soon as we make that decision, we'll let you know on that.

Because many people have said to me, well isn't the webOS decision just completely tied to PSG? The answer to that is actually no. webOS is, has obviously use in the PSG business, but also in other businesses that we have. So it's actually-- we have to make a more holistic decision around webOS, which coming to a town near you soon, I hope.

Bill Shope - Goldman Sachs - Analyst
Just to clarify your review of webOS, you mean the software, not the webOS tablet.

Meg Whitman - Hewlett Packard Co. - President and CEO

Correct, correct. The software. Right, the software.

Bill Shope - Goldman Sachs - Analyst
Great.Thank you very much.

So, if you are a responsible webos fan or writer , don´t believe others sources crap. Thank You.

Official: 3Q2011: Samsung confirmed as smartphone number one. Chart.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

New figures from Strategy Analytics have confirmed Samsung’s position as the world’s largest smartphone vendor for the third-quarter, overtaking Apple, which saw sales in the quarter dip as users waited for the launch of the new iPhone 4S in October.

According to the research firm, Samsung shipped 28 million smartphones in Q3 for a 24 percent market share, ahead of both Apple (17.1 million, 15 percent) and Nokia (16.8 million, 14 percent). Total global smartphone shipments grew 44 percent annually to reach a record 117 million. However, that growth is almost half that of a year ago, when smartphone growth during Q3 2010 was recorded at 78 percent.

"Apple’s global smartphone growth rate slowed to just 21 percent annually in Q3 2011, its lowest level for two years," said Neil Mawston, Director at Strategy Analytics. “We believe Apple’s growth during the third quarter was affected by consumers and operators awaiting the launch of the new iPhone 4S in the fourth quarter, volatile economic conditions in several key countries, and tougher competition from Samsung’s popular Galaxy S2 model.”

The firm said that global handset shipments (not just smartphones) grew 14 percent annually to reach 390 million units in Q3. China’s ZTE was described as a “star performer,” capturing a 5 percent market share and overtaking Apple to become the world’s fourth-largest handset vendor.

“ZTE’s growth is being driven by competitive pricing of entry-level models for feature phones and Android smartphones,” said Alex Spektor, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics.

The top three overall spots remained unchanged: Nokia (106.6 million, 27 percent market share), Samsung (88 million, 23 percent) and LG (21.1 million, 5.4 percent).

Intel: The PC is not dead. Video.

The PC is not dead yet and Intel is getting it serious and made a video to show why not.

Don’t forget —  the PC is not dead!
Happy Halloween!
Let me know if you think the PC is dead?

Many in the Press are talking about the death of the PC -- even people in our own industry are talking about how Smartphones and Tablets are taking over. This video with accompanying voice-over looks at the question of whether the PC is really dying and comes back with a resounding "NO" and compares the naysayers to those who worried about Y2K. The video promotes the PC as evolving and growing stronger with new segments like Ultrabooks™ and All-in-One PC's -- not to mention record PC sales in 2011.

HP  CEO: WebOS is part of our cloud strategy. Todd Bradley: The effective price for the tablet is $300.

Besides HP is not spinning off the PC PSG division, the inevitable question was “what are you to do with webOS”?

Meg Whitman indicated, for instance, that webOS, which H.P. was incorporating into servers as well as tablets, will continue to play a role. “We’re still working through webOS, still haven’t gotten to ground,” Ms. Whitman said. “It is part of our cloud strategy. Stay tuned.”

Todd Bradley, the head of the PC unit, did not say whether H.P. would re-enter the tablet market with webOS. The company currently sells a tablet that uses Microsoft software. He said the “effective price” for the tablet is $300, adding that “the challenge is building that out.”

Well, we know now they are working on how to get parts and components that work and can reach a competitive tablet price for a 16GB wi-fi version with a $300.- price tag.

Bradley also said that he, CEO Meg Whitman Lesjack, and former Palm CEO and current HP VP Jon Rubinstein are working “as quickly as we can to make the right decisions about webOS,” with Whitman adding that they'll make a decision about “the long-term future of webOS within in HP over the next couple of months.”

Whitman did note that HP could find use for webOS in HP business other than the PSG, saying that “we have to make a more holistic decision around webOS.”

Sprint to Use Clearwire TDD-LTE for Capacity.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Clearwire may be losing Sprint as a wholesale WiMAX customer, but it appears that it has gained Sprint as a wholesale LTE customer.

Sprint will use Clearwire’s TDD-LTE service to add capacity to its own LTE network, slated to launch early next year, network executive Bob Azzi said during his keynote address at 4G World today.

“We’re taking advantage of the depth of Clearwire’s spectrum for hotspots and offload,” Azzi said, saying it will serve as an “offload layer in the hottest of hotspots.”

Sprint and Clearwire are working with vendors on chips and devices compatible with both their respective FDD-LTE and TD-LTE networks.

Smartphones will have to be compatible with both technologies to take advantage of the capacity boost from Clearwire’s network.

The decision was first announced by CEO Dan Hesse during Sprint’s earnings call today. The news sent Clearwire’s stock surging more than 20 percent in morning trading as investors saw it as a way for the operator to offset the loss of Sprint as its primary WiMAX customer.

Sprint said earlier this month that it would phase out its use of Clearwire’s WiMAX service next year in favor of its own LTE network, which is expected to cover 250 million people by the end of 2013. The decision was a blow to Clearwire, which depends on Sprint for the bulk of its wholesale revenue.

Sprint’s LTE network will have a “much broader footprint” than Clearwire’s WiMAX network, Azzi said.

Azzi did not discuss timing or funding for Clearwire’s TD-LTE network. Clearwire needs $600 million to deploy the service, which will serve as an overlay to parts of its WiMAX network.

Sprint also needs to raise money before it can deploy its own LTE network and has not said whether it will help pay for Clearwire’s buildout.

Sprint’s decision to abandon WiMAX in favor of LTE was mentioned in a later speech by Tom Jasny, vice president of wireless and broadband network systems at Samsung.

Samsung is also providing network equipment for Sprint and C Spire Wireless’ respective LTE deployments and  artnered with MetroPCS to bring the first LTE smartphone to  the U.S. market, the Galaxy Indulge.

Jasny said that the aggressive deployment of LTE in the United States by MetroPCS, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint has made it the hottest smartphone market in the world.

“Smartphone adoption has grown quickly in North America at rates exceeding the rest of the world,” he said, citing the 42 percent of all cell phone users in America that own a smartphone.

Of course, along with smartphones comes data traffic. Though LTE provides a clear advantage over 3G in terms of speeds and spectral efficiency, vendors like Samsung are already starting to talk about the need to increase  capacity on the next-generation mobile  broadband networks.

Jasny said Samsung is stepping up to the challenge with new architectures that use a combination of macrocells and small cells.

In December of next year, Samsung will come out with two new products targeted at the rising tide of data.

The first, its content delivery network, will use caching and optimization to help operators address traffic from mobile video, a primary source of network congestion.

The other solution, its mobile user behavior analysis and control service, will “take the management of traffic and information on subscriber behavior and turn them into future business models,” Jasny said.

Todd Bradley: Meg Whitman and Jon are working together to make a decision in a couple of months about WebOS

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Some words I hardly heard on the recent HP audio webcast:

Todd Bradley: Meg Whitman and Jon (Rubinstein) are working together to make a decision in a couple of months about WebOS.

However we  expect something new on the Nov 21st HP earnigs conference call about webOS ???

The questions are:

Are there some negotiations for selling webOS not cleared up yet?

Are they taking some more time for it ?

Are they really thinking in a new webOS business model?

PR: HP to keep PC division.

Finally after a month of  waiting about the HP PSG spin off, HP has decided not to, and will continue with its PC division as part of the company.

Press Release:

HP to Keep PC Division.

Continued combination of HP and its Personal Systems Group expected to deliver greater customer and shareholder value.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 27, 2011

HP today announced that it has completed its evaluation of strategic alternatives for its Personal Systems Group (PSG) and has decided the unit will remain part of the company.

“HP objectively evaluated the strategic, financial and operational impact of spinning off PSG. It’s clear after our analysis that keeping PSG within HP is right for customers and partners, right for shareholders, and right for employees,” said Meg Whitman, HP president and chief executive officer. “HP is committed to PSG, and together we are stronger.”

The strategic review involved subject matter experts from across the businesses and functions. The data-driven evaluation revealed the depth of the integration that has occurred across key operations such as supply chain, IT and procurement. It also detailed the significant extent to which PSG contributes to HP’s solutions portfolio and overall brand value. Finally, it also showed that the cost to recreate these in a standalone company outweighed any benefits of separation.

The outcome of this exercise reaffirms HP’s model and the value for its customers and shareholders. PSG is a key component of HP’s strategy to deliver higher value, lasting relationships with consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers. The HP board of directors is confident that PSG can drive profitable growth as part of the larger entity and accelerate solutions from other parts of HP’s business.
PSG has a history of innovation and technological leadership as well as an established record of industry-leading profitability. It is the No. 1 manufacturer of personal computers in the world with revenues totaling $40.7 billion for fiscal year 2010.

“As part of HP, PSG will continue to give customers and partners the advantages of product innovation and global scale across the industry’s broadest portfolio of PCs, workstations and more,” said Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP. “We intend to make the leading PC business in the world even better.”
