Interactive surfaces make use of a sensor bar and wireless stylus to convert any flat area into a digital drawing surface. However, the high cost of ownership is an obstacle for mainstream adoption. The HP Pocket Whiteboard, which starts at US$699, may just be cheap enough to be issued to teachers and sales staff when it hits Asia in July 2011.
During a demonstration, the HP Pocket Whiteboard was used in conjunction with a pocket projector to create a virtual touchscreen display on the wall. By calibrating the stylus with the sensor bar, the user can control the Windows operating system with the pen just like a tablet PC. The Pocket Whiteboard is part of the HP's Digital Learning Suite solutions, which aims to change the traditional classroom into a digital learning space.
