Definitive Technology Unveils Bluetooth
Tablet Speaker
New “Sound Cylinder” speaker clips on
to most tablets and
features built-in subwoofer for
superior sound
Definitive Technology announced today its first
Bluetooth speaker system, the “Sound Cylinder,” to bring high performance sound
to tablets and other portable Bluetooth enabled devices. Sound Cylinder’s
innovative clip system securely attaches the speaker to most tablets and many
laptop computers.
The
consumer electronics industry will get its first peek at Definitive’s new Sound
Cylinder at the company’s exhibit space, booth 4809 in the North Hall of the
Las Vegas Convention Center, at CES 2013, Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas.
Sound
Cylinder doubles as a table stand for an attached tablet. A built-in pivoting
“kickstand” securely holds the device at an ideal angle for viewing and
listening. It connects wirelessly to Bluetooth enabled devices or via an audio
cable to any device with an analog audio output jack. The built-in rechargeable
battery provides up to 10 hours of high quality listening.
Befitting
Definitive’s reputation as a leading maker of ultra-high performance component home
loudspeakers for discriminating listeners, Sound Cylinder’s audio performance
is exemplary. It features a built-in side-firing subwoofer in addition to
stereo speakers to provide listeners with rich, full-bodied stereo sound
wherever they may go. Surround Array image enhancement processing creates a
life-like soundstage that extends beyond the compact dimensions of the
cylinder.
“Thanks
to rapid advances in portable devices such as tablets and smart phones, enjoying
music and video content on the go is within the reach of everyone” said Kevin
Duffy, Definitive Technology’s President. “Headphones are fine but they’re not
always practical, especially when you want to share an audio experience with
others. Sound Cylinder answers the need for convenient high quality audio on
the move.”
Sound Cylinder is fabricated with premium materials to achieve a
level of attractive appearance, precision fit and luxury finish unusual in
portable audio products. The grilles are custom perforated aluminum while the
“kickstand” and clamp mechanism parts are injection-molded Magnesium alloy, a costly
high-tech material that is incredibly strong yet lightweight.
The product design is the result of collaboration between world
renowned Frog Design and the DEI Global Design Center, headed by Chief Design
Officer Michael DiTullo. Frog Design is an innovation firm with 12 locations
around the globe and more than 1,000 designers, strategists, and engineers. The
DEI Global Design Center is a multi-disciplinary design studio located in the
Vista, CA office of Definitive’s corporate parent, DEI Holdings.
Sound
Cylinder will be available in consumer electronics specialty storefront and
on-line retailers as well as Definitive’s on-line store in January 2013. The
suggested retail price is $199.
