Samsung Galaxy S8 sales are 15% higher than Galaxy S7.

Sales of the Galaxy S8 hovered above that of its predecessor, the Galaxy S7, Samsung Electronics Co.'s mobile chief has said.

Koh Dong-jin, who heads Samsung's mobile business, reportedly said the sales of the Galaxy S8 were 15 percent higher than its predecessor so far during his meeting with local reporters in Taiwan last week, according to industry sources.

The sales of the Galaxy S8 are also expected to remain high for the third and fourth quarters, he added.

Koh's remarks are significant as local analysts have been claiming that the overall performance of the Galaxy S8 was falling behind the Galaxy S7.

The official said Samsung will showcase the Galaxy Note 8 next month, and start sales in September.

Samsung Electronics said it cannot provide detailed figures, although it acknowledged Koh made such remarks.

The Galaxy S8 smartphones feature high resolution displays that bend on both sides and come with various innovative technologies, such as iris and face recognition scanners, and a smart voice assistance program named Bixby.

The video above apparently shows the Samsung Galaxy S8 performance registering a spectacular score of 205,284 on the AnTuTu benchmark site. That would make the Galaxy S8 the new top scoring phone, taking over from the Apple iPhone 7's 181,807. The top Android model has been the OnePlus 3T, powered by the Snapdragon 821 SoC. That phone tallied 162,423.

We don`t know if  the chip working in the device on this test is the Snapdragon 835 or the Exynos 8895 chipset. The model number of the Galaxy S8 is the SM-G950 on the test.

Samsung at the MWC 2017 event teased first some shape of  what will be the next Galaxy S8 and S8+  and second announced the GALAXY UNPACKED event for March 29 will take place at 11:00 a.m. EDT in New York , on the video teaser below and also Samsung has posted the official invitation on Samsung Mobile press site:

Despite the rumors of a Galaxy S8 unveiling date as March 29 , Kim Dong-Jin chief executive will reveal the schedule of the device at MWC 2017 on February 27th in Barcelona Spain.

Samsung Galaxy S8 new battery manufacturer is Murata Mfg Co from Japan.

After the Galaxy Note 7 battery fiasco that made the devices burn, Samsung is replacing its China battery supplier ATL for the Japanese company Murata Manufacturing  Co. which bougth SONY battery business last year in June.

Samsung SDI will continue supplying batteries to Samsung Electronics for the Galaxy S8.

Yep there will not be a new flagship smartphone  at the MWC 2017 but Samsung  is expected to give the audiences a glimpse of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 at the event through one-minute video clip. 

Samsung, which normally unveiled its Galaxy S series at the MWC, delayed the launch to April due to the safety issues caused by Note 7 explosions.

The ability to connect the handsets to a monitor for a desktop view of Android that can be controlled via keyboard and mouse, like Microsoft Continuum, called Samsung DeX ,though it requires an optional, HDMI-equipped dock.

Another is Samsung’s version of the Google Assistant (and Apple’s Siri), known as Bixby. 

It’s said to be able to handle more complex commands than its competitors, such as multi-part instructions, and is launched by a dedicated button on the side of the devices.

Lastly, the pressure-sensitive input technology known as force touch is finally coming to the Galaxy brand, with the lower part of the display supposedly capable of distinguishing between different types of screen presses. Apple first included a similar technology on 2015’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Samsung might be teasing again the upcoming Galaxy S8 on a new AMOLED Video from Samsung Display, this time you can see on the first pic above the audio jack port , an USB -C port and a speaker.

Sure thing is the mobile will have at least a 6 inch display almost bezel less, with no home button.

Both Samsung Galaxy S8/S8Plus might have sided curved edges but one is bigger.

A case maker has sent to gsmarena more info about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with precise  measurements.

If you observe close the two pictures above, both smartphones models are presenting sided curved edges on the diagrams, with the only difference in size. Of course the S8 Plus is larger and wider than the the S8 as you can notice.

Both are apparently bezel less , have not home button and the USB is a 2.0 not a USB-C type.

SAMSUNG forecast 60 million GALAXY S8 shipments for 2017.

According to the KOREA HERALD the investor SAMSUNG has set a 60 million GALAXY S8 smartphone shipments for 2017.

“The tech giant has requested its partners to supply (parts) based on the tech giant’s 60 million shipment goal,” an industry source told The Investor on condition of anonymity, adding Samsung has confirmed that the release schedule has been postponed to mid-April, a month later than the usual March release.

The shipment goal for the S8 is much higher than the total shipments of the firm’s flagship models over the past three years: S5 (45 million), S6 (45 million) and S7 (48 million). The Galaxy S4, released in 2013, shipped a record 70 million units, while the S3 notched up 65 million. 

The mass production of the S8 will start in March, when Samsung will begin rolling out 5 million units of the S8 each month after it receives electronic parts in February from its main vendors, including camera iris scanner module maker Partron and camera lens firm Sekonix.

Wireless module maker Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Amotech are expected to supply radio frequency modules, which are used for near-field communication systems, in March, while secondary vendors such as Hansol Technics will likely start offering parts from April.

The 60 million units shipments forecast is not that ambitious since key rival Apple is expected to sell up to 80 million of its iPhone 8 handsets during the last three months of 2017, according to Nomura Securities.

The first not official Samsung Galaxy S8 picture surfaces from China and shows an almost bezel less smartphone with the display filling the 95% of the front, No home button and the Samung logo front below. The display is curved.

The rumored release date of the SGS8 is April 11 instead of March. Later than the SGS7/SGS7edge that were unveiled in March 11, 2016.

Apparently the new design requires more time to get it on production, reason for the release delay.

SAMSUNG to launch the GALAXY S8 with a S PEN as an accessory.

Rumors are saying Samsung will suspend or ax the Note phatablet line and instead will bring with the Galaxy S8 Plus an S Pen not inside the device but as an accessory. If the device will have a 6 inch display the S Pen  might have then a good use.

Is not clear is Samsung is going to charge you some dollars for the S Pen as an accessory or if it will arrive packed in the Galaxy S8 box at no cost. This last would be a great introduction  promo.

This news doesn`t mean the Galaxy Note 8 will not be launched in 2017 since the company hinted the new Note for next year.

Samsung gives some details of the upcoming AI powered Galaxy S8.

Samsung Electronics’ next flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 will adopt an artificial intelligence platform, which will also be applied into all of its home appliances, the company said Friday. 

“We will focus on how to provide more pleasure and convenience to users through VIV Labs’ AI solution,” Lee Jae-yong, Samsung Electronics’ vice chairman, said while meeting the chiefs of VIV Labs in the company’s Seocho office building in Seoul on Friday. 

Lee added that Samsung would strengthen its technology leadership in the Internet of Things by integrating VIV Labs’ solution into its smartphones, home appliances and semiconductors. 

VIV Labs is a Silicon Valley-based AI platform company set up by former key developers of Apple’s AI platform Siri. Samsung Electronics acquired the American tech firm in October with the aim of applying AI-powered voice recognition technologies in its digital devices and appliances.

Following the meeting with Lee, VIV Labs’ management and Samsung Electronics’ Vice President Rhee In-jong met reporters to give them a glimpse of how the new AI platform will be applied into the Galaxy S8 and the company’s other appliances. 

Rhee said, “We are developing a key major interface which will bring about a totally new paradigm; an open AI platform.” 

“The current Galaxy smartphones need separate applications for users, for instance, to order pizza or coffee. But, the new AI platform will enable them to order (or do) things directly without going through separate applications,” he explained. 

The service is expected to be an upgraded version of the current intelligent personal assistant S Voice built into some devices of the Galaxy series, but its functions are still behind Apple Siri or Google Assistant. 

The AI voice recognition technology will also be applied to Samsung’s home appliances in the future. 

“(The AI platform) not only will work on smartphones, but will work with home appliances that you can also interact with, in your daily lives,” said VIV Labs’ CEO Dag Kittlaus. 

“The focus is to make it work as a ‘connected technology,’ which will extend to all sorts of devices that users work on or use,” he added. 

This means the platform will be able to work as a remote control for its owner’s appliances without having to use a specific application. “(For instance) you will be able to ask your refrigerator to show you your photos on your phone,” said Rhee.

Such smart home technology is also being developed by other global tech firms including Google, Apple and Amazon, which are seeking to find new business opportunities beyond the saturated smartphone market. 

Google has already unveiled a voice-activated speaker powered by its AI platform Google Assistant and Apple is developing smart home technologies with its Siri. Amazon has also launched Echo, a hands-free speaker that users can control with their voice through its voice service Alexa. 

Samsung and VIV Labs agreed that AI technology will ultimately become a common sight like the internet.

“The more developers rise in the technology industry, the more users will be interacting with the AI platform,” said Adam Cheyer, VIV Labs’ vice president. 

“Our kids will ask us ‘Dad, how did you grow up without the internet? And in the future, next generations will ask ‘How did you live without the AI platform?’” he added. 

Rumors: Samsung to unveil the Galaxy S8 at CES 2017 instead MWC 2017.

Currently, Samsung Electronics is boosting production of the S7 series to temporarily fill the absence of the Note 7. But rumors abound that the company may unveil the S8 at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in January and roll it out in February, which is earlier than the company's usual launching timeline.

Samsung Electronics declined to confirm anything about the S8's early release.

Analysts here warned that the company should not rush to launch the S8 until it can guarantee consumers that similar problems will not occur.

"Launching the S8 earlier than planned is the last thing that Samsung Electronics should consider," HMC Securities analyst Noh Geun-chang said. "Making sure that such an incident will never happen again through thorough product quality checking is the most important thing now." He added that the S8's launch may be postponed amid negative images of the Note 7 lingering in consumers' minds.
