Mark Zuckerberg  Facebook CEO announced today its frist project to deliver internet from space in an effort to connect the world particularly Africans, and has partnered with Eutelsat on a satellite initiative.

Facebook continues Internet.org initiativeTwo years ago, Facebook announced Internet.org, an effort to accelerate the rate of connectivity by addressing the physical, economic and social barriers that are keeping people from getting online. For Facebook, this satellite system represents one of many technology investments to enable cost-effective broadband access to unconnected populations. Facebook plans to work with local partners across Africa to utilise satellite and terrestrial capacity to deliver services to rural areas.
“Facebook’s mission is to connect the world and we believe that satellites will play an important role in addressing the significant barriers that exist in connecting the people of Africa,” said Chris Daniels, VP of Internet.org.  “We are looking forward to partnering with Eutelsat on this project and investigating new ways to use satellites to connect people in the most remote areas of the world more efficiently.”
Commenting on the agreement, Michel de Rosen, Eutelsat Chairman and CEO, said: “We are excited by this opportunity to accelerate the deployment of our broadband strategy and to partner with Facebook on a new initiative to provide Internet access services in Africa. Eutelsat’s strong track record in operating High Throughput Satellite systems will ensure that we can deliver accessible and robust Internet solutions that get more users online and part of the Information Society.”

Eutelsat and Facebook to partner on satellite initiative to get more Africans online.

Two companies to build a High Throughput Satellite system using dedicated broadband capacity on Spacecom AMOS-6 satellite

Paris, 5 October 2015 – Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL) and Facebook today announce they are partnering on a new initiative that will leverage satellite technologies to get more Africans online.
Under a multi-year agreement with Spacecom, the two companies will utilise the entire broadband payload on the future AMOS-6 satellite and will build a dedicated system comprising satellite capacity, gateways and terminals.
In providing reach to large parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, Eutelsat and Facebook will each be equipped to pursue their ambition to accelerate data connectivity for the many users deprived of the economic and social benefits of the Internet.
Spot beams for community and Direct-to-User access
Scheduled for start of service in the second half of 2016, the Ka-band payload on the AMOS-6 geostationary satellite is configured with high gain spot beams covering large parts of West, East and Southern Africa. The capacity is optimised for community and Direct-to-User Internet access using affordable, off-the-shelf customer equipment. According to the terms of the agreement, the capacity will be shared between Eutelsat and Facebook.
State of the art satellite technology to meet pent-up demand
Using state of the art satellite technology, Eutelsat and Facebook will each deploy Internet services designed to relieve pent-up demand for connectivity from the many users in Africa beyond range of fixed and mobile terrestrial networks. Satellite networks are well suited to economically connecting people in low to medium density population areas and the high throughput satellite architecture of AMOS-6 is expected to contribute to additional gains in cost efficiency.
Eutelsat steps up Internet activity in Africa
The capacity will enable Eutelsat to step up its broadband activity in Sub-Saharan Africa that was initiated using Ku-band satellites to serve professional users. Eutelsat is establishing a new company based in London that will steer its African broadband vision and business. The company will be led by Laurent Grimaldi, founder and former CEO of Tiscali International Network, and will focus on serving premium consumer and professional segments.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg give us a first laser communications system look for free Internet.

Facebook CEO project Free Internet  has started to become a reality in  cities and countries  like Angola, Pakistan, Bolivia, Senegal, Nahar, Bangladesh, India,  and more to come.

The slogan of this campaign is "Let`s connect them"

Today Mark Zuckerberg posted a message on Facebook and give us on pictures, a  first laser communications system look for free Internet.

His message:

As part of our Internet.org efforts, we’re working on ways to use drones and satellites to connect the billion people who don't live in range of existing wireless networks.
Our Connectivity Lab is developing a laser communications system that can beam data from the sky into communities. This will dramatically increase the speed of sending data over long distances.
Normally you wouldn’t be able to see the actual beams, but for this demonstration we made them visible. This is just one connectivity project we’re working on, but I was excited to share this with you.

Facebook acquires WhatsApp for a final price of USD 21.800 million.

The giant social network Facebook closed today, October 6, the acquisition of mobile messaging service WhatsApp for a final price of USD 21 800 million, nearly 3000 million above the amount agreed when the deal was announced in February .

This increase is mainly due to the revaluation of Facebook shares so far this year, the market value has risen 42% since January, as the network created by Mark Zuckerberg paid more than half the amount WhatsApp for purchasing shares.

Facebook confirmed the closing of the transaction in a document delivered today to the Securities and Exchange Commission of USA (SEC).

In this detailed that the sale was closed because of 177,760,669 shares of Facebook and USD 4 590 million in cash, plus the delivery of 45,941,775 shares of "restricted" employees WhatsApp.

For its part, the co-founder and CEO of WhatsApp, Jan Koum, went to join the board of Facebook.

The closing of the transaction, announced in February, comes after last Friday that received the endorsement of the European Commission (EC), which determined that, despite the acquisition, citizens have alternatives to communicate Used other applications and therefore not a situation contrary to competition in the sector will be created.

"The commission concluded that American Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are not close competitors and that consumers continue to have a wide variety of applications of alternative communications after the transaction," the institution said in a statement.

Both Facebook through Facebook Messenger service like WhatsApp, allow smartphone users who install your applications communicate by sending text messages, photos, voice and video.

Meanwhile, the operation had already received the approval of the competition authorities of the United States in April.

Founded in 2009 by Jan Koum and Brian Acton and headquartered in Mountain View (California, USA) Company WhatsApp Inc. owns the mobile messaging service most used in the world, with 600 million users is positioned WeChat before the Chinese and Japanese LINE.

CloudTalk Releases Voice App Just Sayin’

Just Sayin’ enables Twitter and Facebook users the ability to embed audio, video, images and text from just one platform.

CloudTalk announces the release of its newest app Just Sayin’ for iOS and Android. The application aims to revolutionize online social communication by allowing its users to integrate their own voice and sounds into social media.
Just Sayin’ allows users to enrich their Twitter and Facebook updates with personal voice recordings embedded directly into an update or tweet.
"This focus on voice and sound functionality has proven to be especially valuable to celebrities where there is an ever-present demand for them to be authentic, personal, and to deliver fresh content. Musicians may be inspired to upload a sound bite or video from the most recent concert or a lyric teaser from a newly recorded track.
Comedians once handicapped by commas and exclamation points and emoticons to tell a joke using text on social networks can now exercise comedic timing in Twitter or Facebook. Share interviews, two-way conversations, or re-energize fair-use recordings," says Sam Yousif, Director of Sales & Marketing.
Key features on Just Sayin’
  •     Voice Recording and Sharing
  •     The ability to tag users from the application to Twitter

Press Release:

Facebook to Acquire WhatsApp

February 19, 2014

  • Acquisition accelerates Facebook’s ability to bring connectivity and utility to the world
  • Leading mobile messaging company will continue to operate independently and retain its brand
  • WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum to join Facebook Board of Directors

MENLO PARK, CALIF. – February 19, 2014 – Facebook today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire WhatsApp, a rapidly growing cross-platform mobile messaging company, for a total of approximately $16 billion, including $4 billion in cash and approximately $12 billion worth of Facebook shares. The agreement also provides for an additional $3 billion in restricted stock units to be granted to WhatsApp’s founders and employees that will vest over four years subsequent to closing.

WhatsApp has built a leading and rapidly growing real-time mobile messaging service, with:

  • Over 450 million people using the service each month;
  • 70% of those people active on a given day;
  • Messaging volume approaching the entire global telecom SMS volume; and
  • Continued strong growth, currently adding more than 1 million new registered users per day.

The acquisition supports Facebook and WhatsApp's shared mission to bring more connectivity and utility to the world by delivering core internet services efficiently and affordably. The combination will help accelerate growth and user engagement across both companies.

"WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable," said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. "I've known Jan for a long time and I'm excited to partner with him and his team to make the world more open and connected."

Jan Koum, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO, said, “WhatsApp's extremely high user engagement and rapid growth are driven by the simple, powerful and instantaneous messaging capabilities we provide. We're excited and honored to partner with Mark and Facebook as we continue to bring our product to more people around the world.”

Facebook fosters an environment where independent-minded entrepreneurs can build companies, set their own direction and focus on growth while also benefiting from Facebook’s expertise, resources and scale. This approach is working well with Instagram, and WhatsApp will operate in this manner. WhatsApp’s brand will be maintained; its headquarters will remain in Mountain View, CA; Jan Koum will join Facebook’s Board of Directors; and WhatsApp’s core messaging product and Facebook’s existing Messenger app will continue to operate as standalone applications.

Upon closing of the deal, all outstanding shares of WhatsApp capital stock and options to purchase WhatsApp capital stock will be cancelled in exchange for $4 billion in cash and 183,865,778 shares of Facebook Class A common stock (worth $12 billion based on the average closing price of the six trading days preceding February 18, 2014 of $65.2650 per share). In addition, upon closing, Facebook will grant 45,966,444 restricted stock units to WhatsApp employees (worth $3 billion based on the average closing price of the six trading days preceding February 18, 2014 of $65.2650 per share). As of February 17, 2014, Facebook had 2,551,654,996 Class A and B shares outstanding plus approximately 139 million dilutive securities primarily consisting of unvested RSUs. The Class A common stock and RSUs issued to WhatsApp shareholders and employees upon closing will represent 7.9% of Facebook shares based on current shares and RSUs outstanding.

In the event of termination of the Merger Agreement under certain circumstances principally related to a failure to obtain required regulatory approvals, the Merger Agreement provides for Facebook to pay WhatsApp a fee of $1 billion in cash and to issue to WhatsApp a number of shares of Facebook’s Class A common stock equal to $1 billion based on the average closing price of the ten trading days preceding such termination date.

Facebook was advised by Allen & Company LLC and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP; and WhatsApp was advised by Morgan Stanley and Fenwick & West, LLP.

Tu vida en Facebook en 62 segundos
To mark its tenth anniversary, Facebook created a video with the highlights of the activity of each user on the network.

Yes , your life . And of all .

With the help of an automated tool , and personalized Facebook created short video for "hundreds of millions" of users. 62 seconds clip shows the year in which you joined Facebook, then shows several of your posts with more ' likes ' and a random selection of photos, all with a background of instrumental music.

To see yours you can go to Facebook / lookback and admire or surprised with the result.

Facebook posted the videos titled " A Look Back" ( A look back ) to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the social network, which was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and four of his colleagues in the Harvard University February 4, 2004 .

"People often ask if I always imagined that Facebook would become what it is today. No way , " Zuckerberg , chief executive , wrote in a posting on its network Tuesday.

"I remember ordering pizza with my friends one night in college shortly after launch Facebook . I told them I was excited to help connect the community in our school, but one day someone needed to connect the world. "

LEE 9 ways Facebook changed the way we talk

The videos are available to all who use Facebook in English, Spanish , Italian, German , French, Turkish , Indonesian and Brazilian Portuguese, a spokesman told CNN Facebook .

Depending on how much content you have and how much you've shared to Facebook , you'll see a custom video, a collection of your photos or a simple thank you card, the spokesman said.

Facebook said its users can share the video on their sites since midday Tuesday. The videos will only be available for about a month, at least that share in your Bio . Only you can see your video if you do not share .
If the clip contains publications you'd rather keep private , you can edit them using the button " Edit your movie," said the spokesman.

LEE : 5 Ways Facebook changed us , for better or worse
