Two new OLED iPhones coming this year 5.85 inch and 6.46 inch models, both with L-shaped batteries.

Accotding to ETNews Apple is going to launch Two new OLED iPhones  this year one 5.85 inch and  the second with 6.46 inch models, both with L-shaped batteries.

Apple started  to Outline Suppliers of Components That Will Go into Next iPhone:

"Components that will go into next iPhone and names of these components manufacturers have been outlined. SCM (Supply Chain Management) system that is different from last year’s is expected as number of OLED iPhone models increases.
According to industries on the 25th, apple is going to release two new OLED iPhones this year. Along with ‘iPhone X’, which was released last year, it is going to add 5.85-inch and 6.46-inch models. If its plan follows through, number of OLED iPhones will increase from one from last year to three this year. Changes to supply and demand of components that will go into iPhones will be inevitable as number of OLED iPhone models increases. Especially there will be changes to display parts and SCM.
Apple is looking to increase number of OLED RFPCB (Rigid Flexible Printed Circuit Board) suppliers. Besides BHE, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Interflex that have been supplying RFPCBs to Apple since last year, it is heard that Apple will select another one or two South Korean companies as vendors. It is increasing number of RFPCB suppliers due to an increase in number of OLED iPhone models.
Apple is also going to increase number of OLED panel suppliers. Currently Samsung Display is the only one that is supplying OLED panels to Apple. However, LG Display will join Samsung Display as OLED panel suppliers and it will be responsible for manufacturing 6.46-inch flexible OLED panels.
Definite timing of delivery has not been confirmed yet. However, it is understood that selection of additional OLED RFPCB suppliers is related to supply of OLED panels by LG Display. Many representatives explain that new RFPCBs that is needed for display modules will be needed as LG Display is going to supply its OLED panels to Apple for the first time. RFPCB connects a panel and a main board and helps a display to operate smoothly.
As a result, RFPCBs that are manufactured by BHE, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Interflex will be supplied to Samsung Display while RFPCBs that are manufactured by new supplies will be supplied to LG Display, which then combine its OLED panel and RFPCB into single module. Modularized displays will be then supplied to Apple.
Types of batteries that will go into next iPhone and names of manufacturers are also being outlined. LG Chemicals is preparing to manufacture L-shaped batteries. LG Chemicals is currently preparing production lines of batteries just for Apple in Nanjing, China, and it was found out that representatives from Apple and LG Chemicals were inspecting production equipment at LG Chemicals’ plant in Nanjing. Because this indicates that LG Chemicals is preparing to bring in equipment for actual production, it is likely that LG Chemicals will soon mass-produce and supply these L-shaped batteries if there are not any unforeseen variables such as accidents or others.
L-shaped battery, which is also called as ‘free form’ as it breaks from a traditional rectangular shape, implements a L shape with single battery cell. Because it does not need a structure that connects two battery cells, it can reduce volume and weight while increasing battery capacity. There is a growing interest towards this move as it is an attempt made by Apple, which is the Smartphone manufacturer in the world that has the strongest influence.
It seems that Apple will release new iPhones during this fall just like any other years. Timing of mass-production of RFPCBs for displays is scheduled for May. To make inferences based on production process, displays will be produced sometime during June and finished products will be produced after June. Timing of production of new iPhone is similar to that of iPhone X that was released last year."

Q4 2017: Apple shipped 29 million iPhone X says Canalys.

Apple shipped 29 million iPhone Xs in Q4 2017. This made it the world’s best-shipping smartphone model over the holiday season. Adoption was driven by upgrade demand in operator-centric markets, where Apple’s installed base is high and customers can finance the cost of handsets over many months. Another notable highlight for the iPhone X is that of the 29 million shipped, 7 million were in China.

“The iPhone X performance is impressive for a device priced at US$999, but it is slightly below industry expectations,” said Ben Stanton, Analyst at Canalys. “Apple struggled with supply issues in early November, but achieved a massive uplift in production in late November and throughout December.

This helped it meet and even exceed demand in some markets by the end of the quarter. One major benefit to Apple is that customers are increasingly realizing the residual value of their old smartphones, opting for trade-in programs to offset the high price of the iPhone X. But that big price tag, and Apple’s split launch strategy, still had an impact, and shipments were not the fastest ever for an iPhone.”

Apple’s iPhone SE, 6s, 7 and 8 models also shipped well in Q4. The older handsets are still popular with iPhone users looking for value for money. “Apple is looking at its best performance to date, all thanks to the massive changes it made to its portfolio in Q3,” said Canalys Analyst TuanAnh Nguyen.

“This strategy has hedged Apple’s risk as it upgrades the iPhone, in both design and user experience. While new technologies, such as Face ID and bezel-less displays, help to justify the US$999 price tag and maintain competitiveness with Samsung, Huawei and Google, having a larger portfolio allows Apple to meet its overall shipment targets, and protect its market leadership in the premium segment.”

Halide 1.5 A camera app, outs the iPhone X notch.

The Halide 1.5 camera application for the iPhone X uses every pixel of the new edge-to-edge screen, including the upper corners. It means the upper notch with all those sensors will not show up for taking your pictures at all.

Halide 1.5 is a huge update which features a new camera UI, designed from scratch for iPhone X.

This new UI is designed to be usable with one hand. This completely unique design allows users to comfortably use the taller iPhone X without having to reach for features, yet ‘embraces’ the ‘ears’ on iPhone X by showing exposure values and a histogram in the corners of the screen. The viewfinder is also completely clear of any obstructions, letting photographers focus on their subject with perfect clarity.
          Depth Mode
Halide can now capture Depth in photos so users can apply effects like Portrait and Portrait Lighting to their photos later.
HEIC Capture
Newer iPhones can capture photos in HEIC for higher quality captures with a smaller file size.
Faster and more reliable RAW capture
We work with other app developers and Apple to ensure we have some of the fastest and best supported RAW capture out of any iPhone camera app.

You can download the Halide 1.5 app from Apple store

Apple`s iPhone X sensing technology to ramp up demand of Qualcomm and Himax Technologies suppliers.

A number of new features that come along with Apple's newly released iPhone X such as 3D sensing are likely to become new standards for next-generation smartphones launched by Android-based smartphone vendors, industry analysts say.

The maturing 3D sensing technology and related applications that enables facial recognition, creates 3D emojis and performs augmented reality (AR) experiences will prompt Android phone makers to follow suit.

Major players in the Android camp, including Samsung Electronics and Huawei, certainly will jump onto the bandwagon, noted the sources, adding that demand for 3D sensor modules is likely to experience an explosive growth in 2018-2019.

3D sensor chips suppliers including Qualcomm and Himax Technologies will benefit significantly from the emerging trend.

While wireless charging is not a new technology or feature for smartphones, the support of Wireless Power Consortium's Qi standards by iPhone X and iPhone 8 devices will promote further adoption and development of wireless charging technology.

In addition to AirPower, an Apple-designed wireless charging accessory coming in 2018, third-party wireless charging devices will be also allowed to charge up iPhone devices, which in turn will encourage IC-design houses to develop diverse chips for wireless charging.

Taiwan-based chipset suppliers such as MediaTek and Richtek Technology will be able to ramp up their shipments of wireless charging chips along with the ongoing development.

Global shipments of wireless charging pads totaled 60-80 million in 2016 and are expected to grow by annual rate of 30% in the next few years, are estimated.
