Will HP bring the Palm Webos software to the 4G LTE ng connect program ecosystem?
to communicate with and integrate all the world  web devices  and applications ?

The Next Generation. The opportunity is unprecedented.

As connectivity rapidly converges in ways that are transforming how people live, work and play, the companies able to quickly meet the massive and still largely untapped demand for mobile broadband services will lead and even shape tomorrow’s market.

But no individual company has the resources or the expertise required to rapidly develop the innovative services users want, to create profitable new business models, and to remove all the business and technical barriers to mass adoption. That’s why we created the ng Connect Program.
The ng Connect Program is a strong ecosystem of innovative, market-shaping companies that together can deliver services that give customers anytime, anywhere access, across all devices and networks, to the next generation of communication, productivity and entertainment services and applications.

We’re making it happen now http://www.ngconnect.org/next-generation/index.htm
The Internet is going mobile, and Alcatel-Lucent is driving the transition to high-bandwidth, all-IP mobile broadband networks with its industry-leading end-to-end LTE solutions, already selected for 40 LTE customer trials around the world.

What is the ng connect program ?

Today in 2010, Alcatel-Lucent from France, stills developing the ng connected program (founded in 2009) ecosystem, which “ brings together  a wide range of companies , collaborating on everything from research to sales and marketing”. One of their members on this project is  Hewlett-Packard, who recently bought Palm Inc  with all their patents ,including the Webos operating system.

What other companies are supporting members of this project?  You can see a logos list on the image here attached:

(Great innovators and market leaders to reshape our way of communicating, Entertainment and mass media, Enterprises collaboration in health, Car connectivity, Digital Signage and Computer experience)

The “Primary Research” objective of the ng connect program describes good the direction of the program:

“projects generate insight into a wide range of relevant topics, including :

·         “What  consumers want and how much they´re willing to pay for specific services and applications”

·         “Forecasted total  available markets for specific products and services such as multiscreen video services”

·         “Implications of the 4G wireless evolution”

·         “Evaluating the connected home”

The good thing to come together  with members , who share resources and  funding for research projects that benefit either all ng connected program members, or subset of members.
The primary Marketing research takes  several  fields:

·         Consumer Electronics
·         Handsets
·         Apps vendors
·         Gaming
·         Computing
·         Automotive transportation
·         White goods
·         Retailers
·         Media companies
·         Advertising

All supported with a University Innovations Program “that are exploring the evolving needs of consumers and developing innovate applications and service scenarios” generating concepts, demos and prototypes in those areas including sports and remote education.

Today, there are some interesting available applications solutions on the ng connected program:

AVAILABE SOLUTIONS
Dynamic Digital Signage

This Solution Concept shows dynamic high quality digital signs connected via a LTE/4G network infrastructure to allow dynamic updates with new advertising content at any time.

Selected digital signs can also monitor the presence of viewers and gather selective demographic information and stats to send back to the advertiser. In addition, LTE/4G
enables video feeds, video chat and interactive touch panel communication with product experts.

eHealthcare and Digital Surgery

This remote health monitoring solution Solution Concept demonstrates diabetic blood lucose and hypertension measurements via a 3G/4G cellular network allowing simple,
"anytime, anywhere" patient care. Using 3G/4G technology, physicians are able to gather patient data, track and monitor patients remotely without the need to schedule repeated and costly office visits.

The Smart Surgery Suite allows physicians in remote locations to interact in real time in an operating theater and collaborate with specialized physicians
located around the world. The collaboration environment allows highdefinition video feeds and remote annotations and communication over LTE/4G.

eLearning
This Solution Concept takes learning beyond the four walls of a classroom. The concept of electronic learning (eLearning) enables a ubiquitous learning experience This Solution Concept shows a remote student having a two way audio, text or video exchange with a teacher and looking at the same presentation file, video clips, and other multimedia content being discussed in class. LTE/4G is used as the enabling technology for fast, anytime eLearning.

Enhanced Mobile Security
The Secure Anywhere Solution Concept allows mobile workers to access the content and applications they need “on the go” or from their home computers, mobile devices or
public locations in a secure environment with easy login option based on the popular OpenID standard.

Mobile Enhanced Reality To Multiscreen With Social Sharing

This Solution Concept demonstrates a revenue generating opportunity for service providers to utilize their current network infrastructure to host new, creative, and innovative advertisement campaigns, allowing end users to interact with advertisements and to pull advertisements at their own choosing. Utilizing Augmented Reality, this Solution Concept connects the real world with the digital world, allowing the enduser to instantly access digital content associated with an object (movie poster, DVD cover, etc) viewed through the device camera or while viewing an ad with their mobile device.

This is what Mark Hurd  HP CEO said about Webos:

“When we look at the market, we see an array of interconnected devices, including tablets, printers, and of course, smartphones. We believe webOS can become the backbone for many of HP's small form factor devices, and we expect to expand webOS's footprint beyond just the smartphone market, all while leveraging our financial strength, scale, and global reach to grow in smartphones.”

About convergence he said:
“ We think this whole of theory of converging of infrastructure is how the world is going to play out”

“Hardware makers would need to have a presence in all categories of networking gear, servers and storage equipment. “ “We think going forward you´re going to need to have intellectual property in all three of those categories”

And HP CTO Phil McKinney  congruent thoughts for his next Keynote in the MobileBeat2010:

“The Perfect Storm of Innovation. Why do device makers need to innovate in software in the current market? How does this play into the coming deluge of connected devices?
McKinney shares developments now underway at his own organization, including HP´s vision for next-generation connected devices, and how to tap into the the promise of the cloud”

Companies are  exploting 4G, applications, geo-local services, mobile TV, events and personal  real time stream.  Carriers are investing biilions of dollars to get into a 4G LTE infrastructure. In the US Verizon is going LTE, Sprint Wi-Max, AT&T  is upgrading to LTE via Alcatel-Lucent, one of their equipment suppliers. http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?cdvn=news&newsarticleid=30493&pid=4800    , full speed ahead for US.

And Europe is going to LTE 4G networks in 2012.

These available applications  above and before mentioned, with others upcoming from members besides HP , need to be integrated by an outrageous software platform like webos. Don´t you think?

Are HP and Alcatel-Lucent  going together that way, as well?
