Adobe Digital Marketing Insights: Tablet visitors spent 54 percent more than smartphone visitors, in 2011.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Adobe Systems Incorporated  announced findings from its inaugural Adobe(R) Digital Marketing Insights report, designed to provide marketing, e-commerce, and retail executives with critical intelligence about digital marketing. The study evaluated how purchasing behavior is impacted by the device consumers used to visit retail websites. In the study, one of the most comprehensive of its kind, Adobe analyzed 16.2 billion anonymous visits to the websites of more than 150 top U.S. retailers.

Results showed that, during the 2011 holiday season and throughout 2011, tablet visitors spent more per purchase than visitors using smartphones or traditional desktops and laptops, suggesting that tablet visitors were the most valuable online customers in 2011.

Key Report Findings Included
-- Tablet visitors spent 54 percent more than smartphone visitors and 21 percent more per purchase than desktop/laptop visitors.

-- Tablet visitors were nearly three times more likely to buy products and services online than smartphone visitors and were nearly as likely to purchase as desktop/laptop visitors.

"Adobe has long championed the need for retailers to optimize their sites for mobile visitors, and the results of this study indicate that tablet devices have become an absolutely critical new sales channel that marketers must address head-on," said Brad Rencher, senior vice president and general manager, Adobe Digital Marketing Business. "This study shows the importance of optimizing your 2012 e-tail strategy for tablet visitors to avoid the risk of underserving a highly-profitable, fast-growing customer segment."

Optimizing websites for mobile devices, such as smartphones, is now becoming common practice. However, with the emergence of the iPad and Android(TM) tablets, companies now face additional mobile optimization requirements in order to provide enticing online shopping experiences. If retailers treat mobile and tablet optimization strategies alike, they may fail to leverage the power of tablet visitors, which the study suggests, convert nearly three times more frequently than smartphone visitors.

Why Tablet Visitors Spend More.

The Adobe study suggests that demographics of tablet visitors, as well as the flexibility of the overall tablet user experience, contribute to higher tablet visitor profitability. Tablet visitors are typically males between the ages of 18-34 years old and tend to be more affluent than other online shoppers. Higher income levels among tablet owners is just one part of the story. Tablet users also have higher usage rates over the weekend, when there is more time to shop online.

PR: Adobe going HTLM5. Transition between Flash and HTLM5. Stops developing mobile browser Flash Player for new devices.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Adobe going HTLM5. Transition between Flash and HTLM5. Stops developing  mobile browser Flash Player for new devices.

What?
Today Adobe surprised the world and is finally going in a period of transition to replace Flash Player for HTLM5.

Why?
HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.  This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.

This transition will bring Adobe Flash Player 12 in between:

We are already working on Flash Player 12 and a new round of exciting features which we expect to again advance what is possible for delivering high definition entertainment experiences.  We will continue to leverage our experience with Flash to accelerate our work with the W3C and WebKit to bring similar capabilities to HTML5 as quickly as possible, just as we have done with CSS Shaders.  And, we will design new features in Flash for a smooth transition to HTML5 as the standards evolve so developers can confidently invest knowing their skills will continue to be leveraged.

For browsers on mobile devices:
Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores.  We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook.  We will of course continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations.  We will also allow our source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations.

Press Release:

Flash to Focus on PC Browsing and Mobile Apps; Adobe to More Aggressively Contribute to HTML5
Posted by Danny Winokur, Vice President & General Manager, Interactive Development at Adobe on November 9, 2011 5:59 AM in Business Professionals, Creative Professionals, Developers, Video

Adobe is all about enabling designers and developers to create the most expressive content possible, regardless of platform or technology. For more than a decade, Flash has enabled the richest content to be created and deployed on the web by reaching beyond what browsers could do. It has repeatedly served as a blueprint for standardizing new technologies in HTML.  Over the past two years, we’ve delivered Flash Player for mobile browsers and brought the full expressiveness of the web to many mobile devices.

However, HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.  This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.

These changes will allow us to increase investment in HTML5 and innovate with Flash where it can have most impact for the industry, including advanced gaming and premium video.  Flash Player 11 for PC browsers just introduced dozens of new features, including hardware accelerated 3D graphics for console-quality gaming and premium HD video with content protection.  Flash developers can take advantage of these features, and all that our Flash tooling has to offer, to reach more than a billion PCs through their browsers and to package native apps with AIR that run on hundreds of millions of mobile devices through all the popular app stores, including the iTunes App Store, Android Market, Amazon Appstore for Android and BlackBerry App World.

We are super excited about the next generations of HTML5 and Flash.  Together they offer developers and content publishers great options for delivering compelling web and application experiences across PCs and devices.  There is already amazing work being done that is pushing the newest boundaries, and we can’t wait to see what is still yet to come!

Adobe launches Flash Player 11 and AIR3.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Adobe announced its Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 releases, which it said will enable “the next generation of immersive application experiences across devices and platforms including Android, Apple iOS (via AIR), BlackBerry Tablet OS, Mac OS, Windows, connected TVs and other platforms.”

Adobe is positioning Flash/AIR as a tool for developers to create cross-platform content and apps, against a backdrop of growing support for HTML5 as a tool to do the same.

In a statement, the company said that “dozens of new features…allow developers to deliver a new class of gaming and premium video experiences, as well as sophisticated, data-driven applications with back-end systems integration across devices, including iPhone and iPad via AIR.”

Likely to be of interest to mobile developers will be “AIR Native Extensions,” which will enable apps built with the Adobe technology to access device features including vibration control, magnetometers, light sensors, dual-screens, NFC and others. This will also enable developers to more deeply integrate AIR apps with “other business software.”

The update includes support for accelerated 2D and 3D graphics, which can enable “1,000 times faster rendering performance” over Flash Player 10 and AIR 2. Currently this is in a “pre-release” stage for mobile devices, with Adobe stating that “a production release for mobile platforms is expected in the near future.”

Developers can also package the AIR runtime with applications, in order to simplify the installation process for platforms including Android, Windows and Mac OS, in addition to iOS. This will remove the need for AIR to be installed separately, as is currently the case.

Mobile social gaming company GREE said that it will become “one of the first companies to adopt the latest version of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR.” It said that “starting this fall,” it will begin formally offering the AIR 3 plugin to its development partners, enabling them to “easily embed the functions provided by the GREE SDK into AIR-based applications.”

The technologies will be publicly available early next month. Flash Builder and Flex, the company’s open-source framework for building mobile, web and desktop apps, will offer support for the new features in an upcoming release “before the end of the year.”
