Powered by LG WebOS, Amazon Alexa is coming to third-party Smart TVs

Alexa Delivers User-friendly Features and
Seamless Voice Control Via LG’s Magic Remote

For the first time, Amazon Alexa will be coming to a wide range of third-party TVs powered by webOS, LG Electronics’ proprietary TV platform.

TV brands such as Advance, Blaupunkt, Eko, JSW, Manta, Polaroid, RCA, Seiki, and Skytech as well as original design manufacturers Ayonz, Dualshine, Konka, Silicon Player, Skyworth, and Xianyou, among others, will soon be offering this capability in their compatible webOS-powered TVs with Magic Remote so even more consumers can enjoy the intelligent voice recognition capabilities of Alexa.

LG’s proprietary ThinQ AI and voice recognition technologies allow webOS TV owners to simply speak into the advanced Magic Remote to get things done or get the information they need. With its point and click capability, LG Magic Remote is extremely intuitive to use and automatically recognizes and connects to set-top boxes and other compatible devices such as soundbars.

Simply long-pressing the Amazon Prime Video button and speaking into the Magic Remote opens up a whole new level of convenience, enabling webOS TV owners to adjust the TV volume, change channels, play music, read news, control a smart home, tell a joke, and more.

For example, simply say “Alexa, open YouTube” or “Alexa, suggest comedy movies” into the remote and Alexa will respond immediately, displaying viewing options on the screen for one’s enjoyment.

“The addition of Amazon Alexa to the long list of webOS features will enhance the user experience and boost the value of our growing smart TV ecosystem,” said Jung Sung-Hyun, head of content services at LG Home Entertainment Company. “Bringing together the capabilities of Alexa with the convenience of webOS to third-party TVs is a win-win-win for TV brands, customers, and developers.”

The built-in Alexa feature will be activated over the air starting in the third quarter in North America followed by other regions including Europe and Asia.

LG introduces the Q6 smartphone with Full Vision. Specifications. Video.

LG Q6 BRINGS FULLVISION DISPLAY TO NEW SMARTPHONE LINEUP.

LG’s Newest Q Series Brings the Essential Features of LG’s
Premium Devices and Elegant Design to a Mid-Range Portfolio.

LG (Electronics) today announced that the LG Q6, part of its new Q series, will be the first smartphone to offer the FullVision display following the LG G6. The Q series offers many of LG’s most sought-out premium features at a competitive price.

LG’s Q series is the company’s latest line of powerful, mid-range smartphones boasting the essential features of LG premium phones at exceptional price points. As the first in the Q series to be announced, the LG Q6 features some of the most desired innovations from LG’s premium G6 smartphone and packages them in a sleek, stunning body highlighted by its FullVision display with minimized bezels.

The Q6 family consists of the Q6+, Q6 and Q6α. The three variants cater to different user groups in terms of memory and storage: the Q6+ comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM, the base Q6 delivers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and the most affordably-priced Q6α comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of ROM.

At a time when minimized bezels are an emerging trend in premium smartphones, the Q6 is the first smartphone in the mid-price category to bring this feature to the masses. The unique 5.5-inch FHD+ FullVision display in the LG Q6 with its 18:9 aspect ratio makes video browsing, gaming and multi-tasking more immersive.

The smartphone’s “bezel-less” form factor was designed to maximize the screen while still preventing accidental touching of the screen when being held.

And the LG Q6 looks good with its minimalist and sleek design. With no unsightly camera bump and sleek appearance, the Q6 features attractive curves with rounded corners of the body matching the corners of the display. Packaged in a stylish metallic frame, the Q6 manages to be both lightweight and sturdy for a more durable day-to-day usage experience.

And not only does the Q6 look good, it is extremely easy to use. Benefiting from ergonomic research during the development of the LG G6, the Q6 is also comfortable to hold and use with one hand. In another nod to user convenience, LG’s proprietary Face Recognition feature allows owners to unlock the Q6 faster and with less hassle than other facial recognition technologies currently available.

As expected, the LG Q6 carries on LG’s heritage of excellence in optics. The smartphone incorporates a 100-degree wide angle selfie camera that allows shutterbugs to include a large group of friends and family in the shot without effort. The camera’s improved LG UX 6.0 takes full advantage of the 18:9 aspect ratio of the FullVision display. Square Camera Mode makes it easy to “share your squares” or create photo collages using multiple square images.

The LG Q6 is also quite durable. The metal frame surrounding the Q6 is constructed of ultra-strong 7000 series aluminum, one of the highest strength aluminum alloys available and used extensively in industries such as aerospace. The device is subjected to LG’s demanding regimen of over 20 battery tests which include heat, penetration and shock, conditions more stringent than international testing protocols.

“The LG Q6 is a blend of premium features, great performance and attractive pricing, a combination that is extremely important to us as we look at the way consumers are using smartphones around the world,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The Q series is our way of getting the superb experiences with the essence of the LG’s premium line-ups to more consumers’ hands and pockets.”

The LG Q6 will go on sale in key markets in Asia starting next month to be followed by availability in Europe, Latin America and North America onward.

LG Electronics launches AI division.

South Korean tech giant LG Electronics Inc. said Sunday it has reorganized its structure and established two research centers devoted to the development of technologies related to artificial intelligence (AI).

The new centers -- AI and robotics -- will be directly under control of the Chief Technology Officer's office, and will focus on the development and implementation of AI-related services, the company said.

The move is part of the company's efforts to revamp research and development (R&D), and better meet the ongoing industrial transformation dubbed the fourth industrial revolution, officials here said.

The AI center will focus on various platforms, such as AI-based assistant services that can be applied to the company's home appliance lineup, smartphones and automobile parts.

Noticeably, a division within the center will be devoted to R&D for deep learning, a new area of AI research where a computer emulates the way the human brain creates patterns from data and processes them.

The robotics center, meanwhile, will be focused on developing core technologies of smart robotics.

Earlier this year, LG applied the deep learning concept for domestic appliance products, including robotic vacuum cleaners and refrigerators.

LG's smart refrigerator is aimed at enhancing the convenience of consumers by analyzing their usage and eating patterns. The company's deep learning platform predicts users' activities based on their past behavior.

LG's robotic vacuum cleaner has been built to recognize objects by capturing surface images of rooms and remember obstacles to better avoid them.

IFA 2016: LG Expands U.S. Audio Line With Portable Bluetooth Speakers Designed For Use At Home Or On The Go.

New LG Bluetooth Speakers Pair Versatility with Premium Sound for an Enhanced Listening Experience Anytime, Anywhere.

LG Electronics (LG) is expanding its portfolio of portable Bluetooth-enabled speakers with a lineup of three new models set to debut at IFA 2016 in Berlin next month. Equipped with cutting-edge features and boasting sleek, innovative designs, the new LG portable Bluetooth speakers (models PH2, PH3 and PH4) serve as versatile audio solutions for all listener types. Everyone from audiophiles to casual listeners who need portability to match their active lifestyle will find a model suited to their needs.

"LG's new line of Bluetooth speakers combine powerful sound performance with compact, portable design," said Tim Alessi, senior director, product marketing for home entertainment at LG Electronics USA. "Understanding the busy lifestyles of many of today's consumers, we sought to create a diverse lineup of audio products that deliver a seamless listening experience in any situation or setting."
For listeners seeking portability and durability, the PH2 and PH4 Bluetooth speakers deliver on both. Weighing less than half a pound, the resilient, splash proof and compact 2.5-watt PH2 (3.8 in x 1.5 in) is designed to bring high-quality audio with a rich, deep bass to even the most active users – perfect for those who enjoy hiking, cycling and everything in between.
It offers a sturdy connected strap that makes it easy to attach it to a variety of surfaces or to carry with you on the go. Plus, it offers subtle lighting for a unique, sophisticated style.
The slightly larger 16-watt PH4 (2.5 in x 3.1 in) delivers complex, powerful and rich sound, making it ideal for outdoor gatherings like camp-outs or barbecues or even around the house. It features 360-degree sound and a rich, deep bass provided by dual passive radiators.
Its compact, sleek form factor, along with a connected strap, makes it easy to take the PH4 on the go. Plus, its water resistant design makes it durable enough to withstand splashes of water, sweat or anything else users might encounter in the great outdoors.
The 3-watt PH3 (3.5 in x 4.9 in) speaker offers a unique design statement that enhances the décor of any room in the house or can add ambiance outdoors. Its sleek, candle-like design is available in three colors and features five different multicolored lighting modes.
The lights of the eye-catching PH3 allow it to instantly set the mood no matter where it is placed – from night tables to garden terraces. This combination of rich audio and vibrant lights sets it apart from the competition by allowing it to deliver illuminated music that reaches every corner of a room.
The entire lineup's 360-degree omni-directional output delivers outstanding, consistent audio that users can enjoy no matter where they are. Equipped with the Bass Boost feature, the PH2, PH3 and PH4 speakers boast crystal-clear sound in any setting, even when users are engaged in the most demanding physical activities.
Additionally, the Single and Dual Passive Radiators of the PH3 and PH4, respectively, increase sound quality and bass output, giving them audio abilities that far exceed most speakers their size. Furthermore, built-in long lasting batteries – up to 6 hours for the PH2 and as long as 10 hours for the PH3 and PH4 – offers enhanced portability and versatility.
From a connectivity standpoint, all three speakers are equipped with auxiliary input ports to allow users to connect to devices without Bluetooth compatibility. This feature makes it possible for users to enjoy audio content from older devices such as MP3 players or CD players. For those with Bluetooth connectivity, the speakers' advanced Multipoint connectivity gives them the ability to simultaneously connect with two different Bluetooth devices, giving multiple users the ability to control audio output at the same time.*
LG's new Bluetooth speakers are scheduled to launch at U.S. retailers nationwide this fall, and visitors to the LG Booth at IFA 2016 in Berlin will have a chance to experience the new lineup first-hand. For more information, please visithttp://www.lg.com/us/portable-bluetooth-speakers.

The first LG OLED WebOS TV produced for Bang & Olufsen to be launched in 2017 for Smart Home integration.

Bang & Olufsen enters a strategic technology partnership with LG Electronics regarding development and production of Bang & Olufsen’s future TV.

Strategic partnership with LG Electronics Inc (”LG”)

As previously announced, Bang & Olufsen a/s ("Bang & Olufsen") initiated a review to identify strategic and structural options to increase scale and further reduce complexity within Bang & Olufsen.

As a result of this review, Bang & Olufsen has entered a strategic technology partnership with LG, one of the world’s largest producers of TVs and a technological frontrunner with its leading OLED technology and WebOS. The agreement entails that Bang & Olufsen will focus on its unique competencies within design, acoustics and smart home integration within TV development, and combine this with LG’s technological leadership within OLED technology.

“This partnership with LG will enable Bang & Olufsen to stay at the forefront of innovation in the TV category, a category which is currently undergoing significant change and which is very important to Bang & Olufsen. The partnership will address Bang & Olufsen’s key challenges related to scale and complexity”,says CEO Tue Mantoni.

The partnership will help solve a key strategic challenge as Bang & Olufsen will achieve technological capabilities and scale needed to improve the long-term profitability of the company. The partnership will allow Bang & Olufsen to focus on core competencies within acoustics and design, while further optimising the company’s supply chain, development, production and service.

The first OLED TV produced by LG for Bang & Olufsen as a result of the partnership is expected to be launched in 2017. Further, the partnership involves collaboration in other areas such as license and product bundle activities.

As a consequence of the partnership, Bang & Olufsen expects to improve gross margins and reduce capacity costs. The agreement has an annual savings potential of DKK 150-200m when fully implemented over the next three years. As such, the partnership is an important step towards achieving the financial targets set out for 2017/18 of an EBIT-margin of approximately 7 per cent and a positive free cash flow.

As a result of the partnership Bang & Olufsen expects to realize restructuring costs of DKK 10 to 15 million, of which up to DKK 5 million will be realized in the fourth quarter of 2015/16. The restructuring costs have not been included in the current outlook for the 2015/16 financial year.

Dialogue regarding a potential launch of a takeover offer.

In continuation of company announcement no. 15.07 dated 26 November 2015, Bang & Olufsen can inform that a dialogue is ongoing with one potential offeror that may or may not lead to an offer for the whole or part of the issued share capital of Bang & Olufsen.

At present, Bang & Olufsen has not entered into any binding commitments, and uncertainty remains as to the outcome of the dialogue with the potential offeror.
