To complete its lineup of 64-bit chips Qualcomm unveiled today new processors to due out in 2015.

The Snapdragon 810 and 808 complete Qualcomm's lineup of 64-bit LTE-equipped chipsets for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Both chips integrate LTE Advanced Category 6 multimode modems that, theoretically, can offer up to 300 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload speeds. Current 4G LTE technology in the US offers only a fraction of those speeds. 

"This announcement underscores Qualcomm Technologies focus on 64-bit leadership...with more details expected to be shared later this year," the company said.
The 810 processor, the fastest Snapdragon to date, combines 64-bit quad core ARM Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 CPUs (central processing units).
The 810 also uses Qualcomm's new Adreno 430 GPU (graphics processing unit), which is designed to deliver up to 30 percent faster graphics performance, while reducing power consumption by up to 20 percent, as compared with the Adreno 420 GPU.
The Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors will be available as sample shipments in the third quarter of this year and are expected to be available in commercial devices by the first half of 2015, Qualcomm said.
Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced the 64-bit Snapdragon 610 and 615 with standard 4G LTE.

The Snapdragon 810 processor, as Qualcomm Technologies’ highest performing Snapdragon platform to date, also supports:
  • Rich native 4K Ultra HD interface and video, along with an upgraded camera suite using gyro-stabilization and 3D noise reduction for producing high quality 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p video at 120 frames per second.  The combined 14-bit dual Image Signal Processors (ISPs) are capable of supporting 1.2GP/s throughput and image sensors up to 55MP.  Advanced imaging software helps enable advanced mobile camera features, including enhanced exposure, white balance and fast low light focus.

The Snapdragon 808 processor is designed for premium performance and integrates the same LTE-Advanced, RF360 and Wi-Fi connectivity as the Snapdragon 810 processor and includes 2K display support.  Both chipsets are fully software compatible with the 64-bit ARMv8-A instruction set. The primary differences of the Snapdragon 808 processor include:
  • Designed for WQXGA (2560x1600) displays, the new Adreno 418 GPU provides support for OpenGL ES 3.1 plus hardware tessellation, geometry shaders, programmable blending.  It is designed to support up to 20% faster graphics performance than its predecessor, the Adreno 330 GPU.  The Adreno 418 GPU also enables a new level of GPU security for secure composition and management of premium video and other multimedia.
  • Configured with two ARM Cortex-A57 cores paired with a quad Cortex-A53 CPU.
  • 12-bit dual Image Signal Processors.
  • LPDDR3 memory.
  • Frame buffer compression and external 4K display support via HDMI1.4.

Nexus 6 a 64 bits Qualcomm`s Octacore SnapDragon Beast, for October 2014.

Despite there is not an Qualcomm`s SnapDragon 810 chipset yet available , but a 801according to Digitimes, the Economic Daily News from China says a forthcoming Qualcomm`s SnapDragon 64 bits 8 cores chipset Model 810 is the one the next generation Google`s Nexus 6 will sport in.

Unless Digitimes miss-typed the right number.

The Economic Daily News says Qualcomm is expected to release the model 810 SoC in the second half of 2014 and will be powered by four ARM-Cortex A57 CPUs paired with four Cortex A53 CPUs for an ARM Big Little set up, which enables scalable performances.

The Nexus 5 was announced in October 2013 and works with a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800, Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 with a GPU Adreno 330.

We expect the Nexus 6 for October 2014.

Lenovo today introduced its first LTE smartphone, the Lenovo Vibe Z,a gorgeous razor-thin, blazing-fast device equipped with gesture controls, photo enhancement software and other premium technologies. Qualcomm introduced  the Snapdragon 410 chipset with integrated 4G LTE World Mode.
The new Snapdragon 410 chipsets are manufactured using 28nm process technology. They feature processors that are 64-bit capable along with superior graphics performance with the Adreno 306 GPU, 1080p video playback and up to a 13-megapixel camera. Snapdragon 410 chipsets integrate 4G LTE and 3G cellular connectivity for all major modes and frequency bands across the globe and include support for dual- and triple-SIM.
Together with Qualcomm RF360 Front End Solution, Snapdragon 410 chipsets will have multi-band and multi-mode support. Snapdragon 410 chipsets also feature Qualcomm Technologies' Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC functionality, and support all major navigation constellations: GPS, GLONASS, and China's new BeiDou.

 – December 09, 2013 – Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has introduced the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 chipset with integrated 4G LTE World Mode. The delivery of faster connections is important to the growth and adoption of smartphones in emerging regions, and Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are poised to address the needs of consumers as 4G LTE begins to ramp in China.
The new Snapdragon 410 chipsets are manufactured using 28nm process technology. They feature processors that are 64-bit capable along with superior graphics performance with the Adreno 306 GPU, 1080p video playback and up to a 13 Megapixel camera. Snapdragon 410 chipsets integrate 4G LTE and 3G cellular connectivity for all major modes and frequency bands across the globe and include support for Dual and Triple SIM.
Together with Qualcomm RF360 Front End Solution, Snapdragon 410 chipsets will have multiband and multimode support. Snapdragon 410 chipsets also feature Qualcomm Technologies' Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC functionality, and support all major navigation constellations: GPS, GLONASS, and China’s new BeiDou, which helps deliver enhanced accuracy and speed of Location data to Snapdragon-enabled handsets.

Qualcomm Technologies also announced for the first time the intention to make 4G LTE available across all of the Snapdragon product tiers. The Snapdragon 410 processor gives the 400 product tier several 4G LTE options for high-volume mobile devices, as the third LTE-enabled solution in the product tier. By offering 4G LTE variants to its entry level smartphone lineup, Qualcomm Technologies ensures that emerging regions are equipped for this transition while also having every major 2G and 3G technology available to them. Qualcomm Technologies offers OEMs and operators differentiation through a rich feature set upon which to build innovative high-volume smartphones for budget-conscious consumers.

The QRD program offers Qualcomm Technologies’ leading technical innovation, easy customization options, the QRD Global Enablement Solution which features regional software packages, modem configurations, testing and acceptance readiness for regional operator requirements, and access to a broad ecosystem of hardware component vendors and software application developers. Under the QRD program, customers can rapidly deliver differentiated smartphones to value-conscious consumers. There have been more than 350 public QRD-based product launches to date in collaboration with more than 40 OEMs in 18 countries.
