iPad pricing to change tablet game.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Market watchers have mostly expected Apple to follow its traditional pricing strategy for its next-generation tablet device, which is likely to start from US$499 with the present iPad 2 to drop to US$399. But if Apple releases two versions of the new iPad, as reported by Digitimes, the vendor's pricing strategy may change.

Sources from Apple's supply chain have claimed that there will be two versions of the new iPad, one targeting the high-end segment and the other the mid-range. Digitimes Research believe the two new iPad models will both be equipped the A6 processor with high-end model coming with a high resolution panel (2048x1536) and the mid-tier model featuring the same grade of panel as iPad 2 (1024x768).

With the existing iPad 2, the Apple tablet series may cover all price segments - from entry-level to high-end.

Apple's pricing strategy for its iPad series is crucial to the tablet market. It remains to be seen at what price level Apple will set its entry-level iPad. For Wi-Fi only models, US$299, US$349 or US$399 may all be possible.

Currently, the non-Apple camp is maneuvering in the US$199-399 range. If Apple drops its iPad price to US$299, it could seriously affect the non-Apple camp's pricing strategy and even Amazon's Kindle could also be affected.

However we don´t think Apple will drop the 9.7-inch (diagonal) price to $299.-although a 7 inch iPad might reach that price.

WSJ on 10 Tech Wishes for 2012: #8 The return of HP's WebOS

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

The WSJ agreed with us that the OS was never given a real chance to mature. The poor hardware killed the opportunity for the elegant and easy to use webOS.

We really hope HP will ready in short time webOS to open source it, for hardware manufacturers worldwide.

8. The return of HP's WebOSAfter killing it off along with their TouchPad tablet, HP announced in early December that WebOS would be given to the open source community, meaning hardware manufacturers could choose to use it on their own devices instead of, say, Android. I'm rooting for a healthy second life, as it was an elegant, easy-to-use operating system for smartphones and tablets that was never given a real chance.

Samsung will launch a tablet with 7 inch AMOLED display.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

The AMOLED technology (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is currently fairly valued by users, although available at a higher price of traditional solutions. The displays, which use this technology, have no doubt the most intense and brilliant color and are easily visible even in non-optimal lighting conditions. Samsung have launched the production of AMOLED screens 7 inch WSVGA resolution (1,024 x 600 pixels) in order to equip a future model of tablet.

Apparently, then, the Korean company is preparing the launch of a new Galaxy Tab which would benefit its AMOLED technology. If the news is confirmed, it would be possible to buy in the near future, a tablet with display features a brightness level of 400 nits, which exceed by far its 250 nit display from 7.7 inches. On the other hand, the intention of the company to produce screens of these characteristics, it was spoken for some time.

CES 2012: ASUS to unveil a 7 inch tablet Mini Transformer o MemoPad.?

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

According to rumors, Asus Eee Memo Pad should incorporate a 7-inch capacitive screen (1280x800 pixels), Qualcomm processor Snapdradron dual core 1.2GHz, 16GB to 64GB of flash memory, 3G and WiFi module, and of course the Android operating system. There is also a 3D version.

As you can see, the tablet in question is definitely smaller than a 10-inch model, but we can not determine whether this is a version 7-inch (Asus Eee Asus Eee Pad Memo Pad or Prime Transformer 7) or not.

Apparently, the device recalls the lines and the overall design or an Asus Eee Prime Transformer Pad MeMo redesigned compared to the original versions. The display type is glossy (shiny) and the Asus logo is evident on the frame. The operating system is Android.

UK: Apple´s Designer Jonathan Paul Ive, knighted.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fans of the clean, inviting look of the iPhone, iPad and other blockbuster Apple products are legion, and that includes Queen Elizabeth II.

The British monarch has awarded a knighthood to Jonathan Paul Ive, a British citizen and head of Apple Inc.'s design team since the mid-'90s.

Ive received an Order of the British Empire for services to design and enterprise.

Ive is credited with helping the late Steve Jobs bring the consumer-electronics company back from the brink of financial ruin in the late 1990s with his whimsical design for the iMac computer, which originally came in bright colors at a time bland shades dominated the PC world.

He later helped transform Apple into the envy of Silicon Valley with the designs for the iPod, the iPhone and, most recently, the iPad.

CES 2012:LTE based WP7 Nokia Ace, HTC Radiant, Samsung Mendel to be announced.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Paul Thurrott from SuperSite for Windows reports that “[t]hree LTE-based Windows Phone handsets -- the Nokia ACE, HTC Radiant, and Samsung Mendel -- will ship on AT&T Wireless before the middle of 2012. The ACE is due March 18, 2012.”

The handsets are rumored to feature in Microsoft’s final headlining keynote at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, says Thurrott, although he is unsure how these LTE-based devices will fit in with Microsoft’s WP7 “Tango” mobile operating system update, which is also rumored to be announced during the keynote before launching in early 2012.

Tango is said to be built for low-end smartphones, “so it's unclear how that jives with LTE, which is obviously a high-end feature,” notes Thurrot.

The Verge suggests the LTE-based devices will run on a pre-Tango version of Windows Phone that supports the 4G wireless mobile communication technology. The Verge also mentions that the HTC and Samsung LTE devices may not arrive in time for CES and may instead be announced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February.

Thurrot says a US version of Nokia’s WP7 Lumia 710 handset, codenamed “Sword,” will also be arriving to the US in April 2012 on US carrier Verizon Wireless.

Rival US carrier T-Mobile is already displaying the Nokia Lumia 710 on its website with the words “coming soon.” The low-cost Android competitor will be the first Nokia-made WP7 smartphone to land in the US and is due to arrive in stores on January 11 for $50 on a two-year contract.
