The Future of  screen Technology: Screens built into wi-fi connected mirrors.

RIM bought last year TAT http://www.tat.se/  a sweden company specialized in the development in screen technologies. Some analysts these week have seen some hints of the TAT tech on the test units of the Blackberry Playbook. The PlayBook's bezel gestures actually aren't quite finalized yet, and that the astonishingly silent UI design division may be lending a hand.

In what   might be TAT working on with RIM?

Capacitive screens has now become a commodity for touch screen devices. Screen technology is now taking the next leap and the coming years imagination is the only thing stopping us.TAT will soon have dual screens, malleable screens, screens built into wifi connected mirrors, desks or backside of gadgets clothed with e-ink screens, tactile feedback, color screens with great contrast in sunlight, holographics/stereoscopic screens, color e-ink touch screens, or screens actually knowing where they are in relation to other screens thanks to ultrasonic emitters and microphones.

TAT want to show some of these things in an “experience video”, that shows a normal day in a couple of years when all these technologies are affordable enough to be used everywhere. This video is the result of TAT  experiment with open innovation.

Video made in Sept 2010 before RIM´s acquisition is showing up a 2D-3D combined technolgy on Android devices:

If RIM with TAT really have success  with all of above list of technologies some in R&D , others like the bezel gestures in final phase, the future in  these fields is about to change very soon. RIM will have then a competitive advantage over their competitors.
