Ecuador Telconet to build two data centers.

WorldWide tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Telconet plans to expand to make way for cloud and IT services in LATAM.

Equadorian telecommunications company Telconet said it plans to develop two data centers for technology services in September this year.

With its facilities in Quito and Guayaquil (Equador’s second largest city), Telconet said it hopes to meet growing demand in Equador for highly available sites for businesses hosting servers or that demand hosting services and housing.

Its colocation offering will have low, medium or high-density options, and it will also offer server virtualization, physical servers, processing, networking and virtual storage with a view of catering to clients looking to put applications in the public or private cloud.

It said the Uptime Institute will provide Tier ratings for the data centers, which will also be designed to meet Standard 942-2 TIA.

The data centers will have more than 1500 sq m of space in total for computing. The Quito data cwenter will be Tier III and have 180 racks while Guayaquil will be Tier IV with 400 racks.

Equipment by GE, Schneider Electric APC and Cisco, among others, will be used and both will be interconnected by a fiber-optic network capable of 20 Gbps, enhancing backup options.

Externally, the data centers will have interconnectivity within Ecuador to the rest of the world through the NAP of the Americas (Miami, Florida), with high-speed connections.

The data centers will also be connected to the Cloud Latin or Latin American Internet Peering group which links Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
