Nokia announced that it has signed a patent license agreement with Apple. The agreement will result in a settlement of all the patent litigation between the companies, including the withdrawal by Nokia and Apple of their respective complaints to the US International Trade Commission. Apple will make a one-time payment to Nokia as well as pay ongoing royalties to the Finnish company.
The specific terms of the contract were not disclosed. Nokia said the agreement should have a positive impact on its results already from the second quarter.
Nokia first sued Apple for alleged patent infringement in October 2009, accusing the company of violating Nokia technology for GSM, UMTS and WLAN since the launch of the iPhone in 2007.
Apple quickly reciprocated with its own suit against Nokia. Since then the two have been working their cases through the International Trade Commission, with minor victories on each side.
