Uplinq 2011: Jon Rubinstein: We might license webOS to partners who will run just one OS.

Asked Jon Rubinstein about if HP will license webOS he said:

"We will not license a partner who launch its devices with Android, Microsoft (Windows Phone) and webOS. We want a partner who really wants to delivery a very unique ecosystem."

He said webOS was designed to scale to several different device families, which he company plans to build into several future product lines. He also said the company does not plan to license out the software, preferring to build its own devices for its platform, but added that H-P might consider looking at “one or two special companies” that could bring something unique to the platform.

“Our model is not to be in the licensing business. There is tremendous strength in building the whole ecosystem,” he said.

So, HP is thinking in a partner who launch its hardware smartphones and maybe other form factors  devices but just with webOS, not other mobile OS, that shares HP webOS ecosystem vision. It would mean also notebooks, netbooks, tablets, laptops, smartphones etc. maybe ?
