Turkish mobile operator Turkcell has made its Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet available to users of RIM’s BlackBerry 9900 handset. It’s the first time that BlackBerry users in Turkey have been able to access a NFC-based mobile wallet. They can get hold of an NFC-enabled SIM from Turkcell shops and then download the operator’s mobile wallet app. Users can make payments from their wallet of up to 35 TL (US$19) without adding a PIN or signature. For sums in excess of 35 TL they must provide PIN or signature.
The NFC-enabled BlackBerry works at MasterCard PayPass readers in shops, cafes and restaurants across Turkey. There are 60,000 locations across the country where users can make payments using the handset. Users of the device can also access their wallet when travelling overseas.
Turkcell launched its Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet in 2011. RIM’s BlackBerry 900 and its BlackBerry Curve 9360 handsets are the first SIM-based smartphones in the world to receive certification to make payments via the Mastercard Paypass contactless infrastructure.
