Samsung unveils the world`s first monitor with an integrated wireless charging function for mobile devices Video.

Samsung Electronics introduced the SE370, the industry’s first monitor with an integrated wireless charging function for mobile devices.

Available in 23.6 inches and 27 inches, the SE370 monitor declutters work areas by doing away with unnecessary cables and ports needed to charge mobile devices. Along with superior picture quality, enhanced visual performance and thoughtful design, the monitor seamlessly integrates advanced technologies that offer both professionals and consumers an optimal viewing and usability experience.

Samsung’s SE370 monitor works with all mobile devices that use the leading Qi wireless charging standard, which was developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Qi is one of the most readily-available global interface standards.

“Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles. Our customers increasingly rely on mobile devices to obtain information and interact with others; so by doing away with the clutter on their desks, we are helping them to use their mobile devices in a smarter way,” said Seok-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through the integration of wireless mobile charging technology, our innovative SE370 monitor dramatically improves efficiency, convenience and connectivity at home and at work – representing another significant milestone in our long history of industry-firsts.”

Convenient Wireless Mobile Charging

For optimized convenience and productive multitasking, the SE370 monitor consolidates the multiple charging ports found in other displays with a circular wireless charging area integrated in the monitor’s stand. Users simply need to place their device on the stand’s charging area to initiate automatic charging, which is confirmed by an LED light.

As a complete solution, the SE370 eliminates the hassle of having to purchase and keep separate charging kits, saving cost and improving workspace utilization. Users also can continue working while their mobile devices charge, helping them to enhance productivity and work task efficiency.

Comfortable Viewing and Superior Picture Quality

Designed for extended periods of screen use, Samsung’s SE370 makes the viewing experience less strenuous. The monitor’s eye-saver mode reduces the harmful effects of blue light on viewers’ eyes and associated eye strain by monitoring and optimizing picture quality to match specific environmental settings. Similarly, the monitor’s flicker-free function protects viewers’ eyes from the constant strain of flickering screens that can occur with standard monitors.

The SE370 further ensures comfortable viewing through a high-performance Plane-to-Line-Switching (PLS) panel. The PLS panel allows users to experience universally-optimized viewing with a 178 degree wide-viewing angle, as well as excellent picture quality with vivid and clear imagery delivered through a brightness of up to 300 cd/m2.

Improved Gaming Experience

Complementary to these embedded picture-enhancing functions, the SE370 delivers a smooth, non-distracting and immersive entertainment experience. Supported by AMD FreeSync technology, the monitor synchronizes the screen refresh rate with the frame rate of a user’s AMD graphics card to minimize input latency, as well as to reduce stutter and lag during gaming and video playback.

Additionally, the SE370 monitor’s 4ms response time enables clear and smooth tracking of even the fastest on-screen action without motion blur or ghosting, while a unique game mode quickly activates with the touch of a button. The monitor’s game mode detects changes in scenes and instantly corrects blurry images, enhances colors and alters contrast for improved visibility.

Energy Efficiency and Design Sophistication

The monitor’s new Eco Saving Plus function reduces screen brightness for increased energy efficiency. In addition to two standard manual settings, an auto-setting reduces energy consumption by approximately 10 percent based on the luminescence of the screen’s black sections in auto on-screen display (OSD) mode. For decreased environmental impact, the monitor’s front cover, stand and circuits also are constructed without PVC.

Along with being an eco-friendly device, the SE370 adds a modern aesthetic and pleasing appearance to homes and workspaces. An ultra-narrow bezel and semi-transparent blue finish frame the monitor’s sleek, white glossy body on all four sides for a clean look. Featuring Samsung’s Touch of Color accents, a T-shaped stand accentuates the monitor’s impactful design with a refined and minimal finish.

Say Hello to Google`s Project Tango. Video.

Francisco De Jesùs.

Press Release:            The future is awesome.

We can build it faster together.

As we walk through our daily lives, we use visual cues to navigate and understand the world around us. We observe the size and shape of objects and rooms, and we learn their position and layout almost effortlessly over time. This awareness of space and motion is fundamental to the way we interact with our environment and each other. We are physical beings that live in a 3D world. Yet, our mobile devices assume that physical world ends at the boundaries of the screen.

The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.

Over the past year, our team has been working with universities, research labs, and industrial partners spanning nine countries around the world to harvest research from the last decade of work in robotics and computer vision, concentrating that technology into a unique mobile phone. Now, we’re ready to put early prototypes into the hands of developers that can imagine the possibilities and help bring those ideas into reality.

We hope you will take this journey with us. We believe it will be one worth traveling.
- Johnny Lee and the ATAP-Project Tango Team

                   What is it?

Our current prototype is a 5” phone containing customized hardware and software designed to track the full 3D motion of the device, while simultaneously creating a map of the environment. These sensors allow the phone to make over a quarter million 3D measurements every second, updating its position and orientation in real-time, combining that data into a single 3D model of the space around you.

It runs Android and includes development APIs to provide position, orientation, and depth data to standard Android applications written in Java, C/C++, as well as the Unity Game Engine. These early prototypes, algorithms, and APIs are still in active development. So, these experimental devices are intended only for the adventurous and are not a final shipping product.

What could I do with it?

What if you could capture the dimensions of your home simply by walking around with your phone before you went furniture shopping? What if directions to a new location didn’t stop at the street address? What if you never again found yourself lost in a new building? What if the visually-impaired could navigate unassisted in unfamiliar indoor places? What if you could search for a product and see where the exact shelf is located in a super-store?

Imagine playing hide-and-seek in your house with your favorite game character, or transforming the hallways into a tree-lined path. Imagine competing against a friend for control over territories in your home with your own miniature army, or hiding secret virtual treasures in physical places around the world?

Worldwide combined shipments of PCs, tablets, ultramobiles and mobile phones projected to reach 2.5 billion units in 2014. A 7.6%+

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Gartner Says Worldwide Traditional PC, Tablet, Ultramobile and Mobile Phone Shipments On Pace to Grow 7.6 Percent in 2014.

Android to Surpass One Billion Users Across all Devices in 2014.
Worldwide combined shipments of devices (PCs, tablets, ultramobiles and mobile phones) are projected to reach 2.5 billion units in 2014, a 7.6 percent increase from 2013, according to Gartner, Inc. Among the operating system (OS) market, Android is on pace to surpass one billion users across all devices in 2014. By 2017, over 75 percent of Android's volumes will come from emerging markets.
"The device market continues to evolve, with buyers deciding which combination of devices is required to meet their wants and needs. Mobile phones are a must have and will continue to grow but at a slower pace, with opportunities moving away from the top-end premium devices to mid-end basic products," said Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner. "Meanwhile users continue to move away from the traditional PC (notebooks and desk-based) as it becomes more of a shared content creation tool, while the greater flexibility of tablets, hybrids and lighter notebooks address users' increasingly different demands.”
Mobile phones are expected to dominate overall device shipments, with 1.9 billion mobile phones shipped in 2014, a five percent increase from 2013 (see Table 1). Ultramobiles, which include tablets, hybrids and clamshells, will take over as the main driver of growth in the devices market from 2014, with a growth rate of 54 percent.
"Complimentary smaller tablets will take over from the larger tablet form factors, providing the added mobility that consumers desire at a lower cost and will compete with hybrids for consumer attention," said Mr. Atwal.

In 2014, the worldwide tablet market is forecast to grow 47 percent with lower average selling prices attracting new users. Consumers continue to buy tablets as an additional device that they carry everywhere. According to a recent consumer study that Gartner conducted in the third quarter of 2013 across Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, the U.K., the U.S. and Japan, over two-thirds of tablets were used outside the home for activities such as vacation or concert. This is a similar pattern to that of smartphones as smaller form factors are driving more portability outside the home.
Worldwide shipments of traditional PCs are forecast to total 278 million units in 2014, a seven percent decline from 2013. Driven by an uptake in Windows ultramobiles, the PC market is estimated to remain flat in 2014 (0.2 percent), after a decline of 9.9 percent in 2013. The Gartner consumer survey showed that less than eight per cent of users would replace their laptop with a tablet, while a transfer to an Ultrabook is almost twice this figure.
In the OS market, Android continues to be the OS of choice across all devices (see Table 2). Gartner estimates that Android will reach 1.1 billion users in 2014, a 26 percent increase from 2013. "There is no doubt that there is a volume versus value equation, with Android users also purchasing lower-cost devices compared to Apple users. Android holds the largest number of installed-base devices, with 1.9 billion in use in 2014, compared with 682 million iOS/Mac OS installed-base devices," said Annette Zimmerman, principal analyst at Gartner.

LG may develope webOS smartphones later.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

As we know LG now plans to showcase an Internet-connected television model powered by webOS in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The LG WebOS smart TV  would retain the “cards” system, or a stack of pop-ups that allows users to navigate multiple applications, originally used in the webOS mobile devices launched by Palm and later by HP.
LG didn’t comment on the company’s plans to market the webOS-powered TVs but said the operating system may be developed and later adopted for LG’s other consumer electronics, including smartphones.

Upcoming Curved, Bendable or Foldable mobiles. Glass displays the end.

Upcoming Curved, Bendable or Foldable mobiles. Glass displays the end.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Actual flexible smart  display technology is taken us to a new age of mobile devices where manufacturers want to get consumers in the next generations of smartphones, tablets, hybrids and maybe small ultrabooks, with the 3 options of curved, bendable or foldable displays.

But, it is not just a matter of blowing bottles or just strike a match. OEMs are taking a phase  one by one.

Samsung and LG took the first launch batch of CURVED smartphones/tablet with the ROUND and G FLEX  respectively, this last with a differentiation advantage of a self healing back cover.

The interesting thing is whatever Samsung or LG do Apple will make it. Or viceversa. However Apple does not manufacture flexible displays, they will buy it made. Samsung and LG make their own flexible smart  display. And that is an advantage for them, their mobile devices will come with unexpected hardware features.

That is great for all us, hoping OEMs will not neglect mobiles OS improvements on the way.

We will see  in the first phase CURVED mobiles only with one principal and with two or three wrap side curved flexible display.

This phase of CURVED displays will take no more than one year 2013/ 2014.

In 2015  the first BENDABLE smartphones/tablets will take off for real.  Sales will be boosted up for the first who comes out with these mobiles. The Samsung ROUND, LG G Flex and iPhone 6 will be history and the beginning of the end of the Gorilla Glass display smartphones. No more Glass.

Finally 2016/2017 the phase of FOLDABLE mobiles will start. Your smartphone or smartphone/tablet will fold at least in 4 sheets and will fit in your shirt pocket.
