The latest version of Apple’s iconic iPhone – due this June – will be “a completely redesigned handset,”
The device will also run a combined CDMA/GSM/UMTS chipset from Qualcomm, as Apple looks to the San Diego silicon vendor to take over production of baseband processors from incumbent supplier Infineon (Infineon has always supplied GSM/UMTS silicon for the iPhone, but Apple recently picked Qualcomm as chipset supplier for its new CDMA iPhone).
News of the handset redesign and the potentially exclusive partnership with Qualcomm is likely to fuel further speculation surrounding the launch of the iPhone 5; previous reports suggest the device will also incorporate NFC technology.
A “thinner, sleeker” iPad 2 will likely be unveiled in April and feature “a new screen technology that is akin to (though not the same as) the iPhone 4's Retina Display and will be ‘super high resolution’.”
The tablet’s screen size will remain at 10 inches but will feature both front and rear cameras, as well as an SD slot (and no traditional USB slot). It will also reportedly feature a dual mode CDMA/GSM chipset from Qualcomm.
