USA: Starbucks launches mobile payment platform.Video

WorldWideTech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Starbucks Corp. has launched a mobile payment system at each of its 6,800 company-owned stores in the United States.

Utilizing the Starbucks Card Mobile app for the iPhone or BlackBerry, customers can pay by holding up a barcode and waving it in front of 2-D scanners at the register.

The company built its own proprietary technology to enable the new payment platform and noticeably left near field communication out of the mix, instead opting for barcode technology for the time being.
