400% Membership Growth in 2010 Makes Site #1 Leader in Brain Health and Performance

Lumosity, the leader in brain health and performance, today announced membership has grown by more than 400 percent with over 11 million members across 190 countries. Each month more than three million unique visitors experience Lumosity.com for the first time. This growth positions Lumosity as the global market leader in online brain health and performance resources.

“Our growth is being fueled by our members themselves, with 98% recommending Lumosity to their friends”
In addition, more than six million members have downloaded Lumosity mobile applications, enabling easy access to compelling brain training games on the go. Brain Trainer, the most popular mobile application from Lumosity, reached number one and was among the top 25 downloads for nearly two months in the Apple iTunes store.

“Our growth is being fueled by our members themselves, with 98% recommending Lumosity to their friends,” said Kunal Sarkar, co-founder and chief executive officer of Lumosity. “This endorsement, combined with our personalized approach and clinical results showing improved attention and memory, continues to validate our leadership position and attract new members of all ages.”

Converging the fun and engagement of gaming with the science and physiology of the brain, Lumosity offers more than 40 proprietary exercises and assessments designed to target cognitive areas such as memory, attention, flexibility, processing speed and problem-solving skills. Based on the cognitive goals identified by the member, Lumosity delivers a brain fitness program featuring a variety of games and tools to help the brain improve and achieve optimal performance.

Programs track members’ progress and adjust complexity accordingly to ensure consistent challenges. With just 15 minutes of daily training, members notice a wide range of changes in their everyday activities, from recalling people’s names and performing on standardized tests, to being better at playing a musical instrument and feeling more confident.

The fitness craze that began in the 1980s spurred a burgeoning industry currently valued at more than $29 billion and growing, and created mass awareness of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise, strength training and healthy eating habits. Lumosity is well positioned to capture the next wave of health and fitness trends as more and more people seek complete physical fitness encompassing the mind and body. As with other forms of exercise, virtually everyone stands to benefit from cognitive training, creating ample opportunity for Lumosity to capture additional market share in a relatively untapped market.

As part of a continuous effort to improve members’ experiences, Lumosity acquired social gaming company ShuffleBrain, which brings expertise in social media and puzzle design to the team. Continued collaborations with leading academic centers including Stanford, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon and Columbia Universities also contribute to superior research findings that are incorporated into the Lumosity offering.

“With over 11 million people we now have the largest database of human cognition ever compiled, leading many universities to use Lumosity in their research,” said Michael Scanlon, co-founder and chief scientist. “We use this data to acquire a deeper understanding of cognitive performance and intelligence, which in turn allows us to continuously improve Lumosity training.”
