Samsung Apps tops 100M downloads

WorldWideTech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Samsung has announced that its app store has hit the 100 million downloads milestone just ten months after launch. Samsung Apps – the store for the South Korean firm’s bada smartphone OS and its Internet-enabled TVs – now has more than 13,000 titles available. Magic Torch, Need for Speed Shift and Asphalt 5 are listed among the best sellers. The 100 million milestone comes just three months after the firm announced the store had reached the 50 million downloads mark.

"We are anticipating that Samsung Apps will show a rapid growth in 2011, especially with a variety of the upcoming bada device line-up" said Samsung senior VP Kang-Hyun Kwon. "Through consistent service improvement and high-quality app selections, we will continue to offer optimised application services for Samsung smartphones."

Samsung Apps was launched in June 2010 to coincide with the launch of its first bada-based smartphone, the Samsung Wave. The vendor has since launched five further phones in the Wave range and shifted 5 million bada phones in total last year.

The store is now available in 120 countries worldwide, though 40 percent of all downloads are made in France, Germany and Spain.
