HTC has announced two new smartphones running the Windows Phone 7.5 OS – known as 'Mango' - which will initially go on sale in Europe and Asia in October. The Taiwanese handset maker unveiled the aluminium-bodied Titan and Radar smartphones at simultaneous events across Europe.
As its name suggests, Titan (pictured) has a huge 4.7-inch touchscreen display along with a 1.5Ghz processor, 16GB of on-board memory, an 8MP wide-aperture rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera and supports 3G and Wi-Fi. The Titan also features business functionality with Microsoft Office Mobile installed.
The Radar has a smaller 3.8-inch screen, a 1Ghz processor, 8GB of on-board memory, a 5MP camera and, like the Titan, supports 3G and Wi-Fi.
HTC emphasised that the new phones have been designed to take advantage of the new capabilities of Windows Phone Mango. The Radar includes an upgraded version of Windows Phone People Hub, which allows users to keep track of their communication history with their contacts, including social networks interactions.
Both phones support HTML5 for browsing the latest websites, access to the Xbox Live gaming service and HTC Watch, which provides access to a library of films and TV shows. The main cameras on both phones shoot 720p HD video.
Microsoft last week started to accept submissions to its App Hub for applications built for Mango , which will feature faster switching between apps, multiple-sided Live Tiles and improved search integration.
