Samsung details SDK bada 2.0 updates for developers.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Samsung announced the SDK for its bada 2.0 platform, which it said is “expected to be a catalyst in expanding the global distribution of bada smartphones, which have already received significant global sales.”

Annouced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, bada 2.0 includes “many compelling, new features,” the vendor said. These include multi-tasking, Wi-Fi direct support, NFC and voice recognition. In addition, it supports HTML5 and improved Flash functions, and is also WAC2.0 compliant.

Another important addition is the introduction of in-app advertising capabilities, enabling developers to generate revenue using this channel. Samsung has also “upgraded and strengthened” its application development environment, providing developers with increased support. New tools include an emulator, and a profiler to optimise the device performance to ensure memory and processing power are used in the most appropriate way.

In a statement, JK Shin, president and head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business, said: “we are expanding our developer community and creating a strong ecosystem that benefits both developers and end-users. Developers have an opportunity to reach a significant customer base with new, entertaining and compelling applications while consumers will receive an outstanding smartphone experience”.

Samsung said that its Samsung Apps store passed the 100 million cumulative download mark in March 2011, and the store currently houses around 40,000 apps. The company said that the expansion of the Wave platform has been driven by the success of its existing Wave-branded devices, which have “proven extremely popular in Europe, China and Southeast Asia.” The company has not released sales figures for the line.
