Insyde Software, Phoenix Technologies and American Megatrends to compete in the BIOS windows smartphone market.
In addition to BIOS solutions for Windows 8, Insyde Software, Phoenix Technologies and American Megatrends are also aggressively competing for the smartphone BIOS market as Microsoft plans to have its recently announced Windows Phone 8 platform also support unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) to target the enterprise market.
Since Windows Phone 8 features several new enterprise-focused functions through its support for UEFI, allowing the system to share a similar usage experience as Windows 8-based PCs, it is expected to strongly attract customers from the enterprise market.
Insyde's InsydeH2O BIOS system for PCs is already certified for Windows 8 and the company, along with its competitors, is also aggressively striving for Microsoft's support for handset BIOS, so the competition for Windows Phone 8 BIOS is expected to start in the fourth quarter, and may begin to contribute profits for the BIOS players after mid-2013.
