LTE: Malaysia: Maxis to Invest RM Half Billion for LTE Network.
Malaysia's communications service
provider Maxis Berhad is ready to launch 4G LTE service following the
allocation of the 2600 MHz spectrum band for 4G LTE by Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 5 December 2012. As
part of its ongoing network investments, Maxis has allocated RM half a
billion over the next three years to launch LTE services.
Maxis has been trialling LTE for 2 years
and conducting extensive LTE interworking tests in a live network
environment using commercial devices. Now operator is all set to launch
LTE services in Malaysia and expects to roll out LTE network across
various parts of the country in the next few years.
Operator has already signed an important
agreement with Redtone to build common infrastructure following its
sign up with U-Mobile in July 2012.
The Company's 3G / HSPA+ network is
currently available to 81% population coverage from 5,200 sites. Whereas
its HSPA+ dual carrier network has over 3,500 sites covering most major
towns nationwide and supports speeds of up to 42 Mbps.
