Star Wars fans can rejoice and take their devotion to a whole new level, courtesy of your friends Motorola and Android who have come up with the limited edition Motorola Droid R2-D2 smartphone. Yep, you heard correctly, Motorola has produced an R2-D2 decked out smartphones, complete with all sorts of things for the Star Wars nuts to flip over. Your experience will hit you as soon as you glance at the back cover of the phone which is going to be graphically designed to look like our old, short 3 foot tall robot friend R2-D2. Nice detailing will make you recall the little guy fondly.
The fun is only beginning at that point though folks. When you go to pick this little gem up, which incidentally will run you $249 after 100 dollar mail in rebate, you will find it waiting for you in a carbonite looking box, which you will remember as being used by Boba Fett against Hans Solo. A neat little feature indeed. Once inside the box, take a peek at the neat accessories, which will include a wired stereo headset as well as a media dock which is fashioned with Star Wars themed images. Please don't think though that the goodies of this limited edition phone end with exterior designs because there is more fun on the inside.
The makers of the phone have been nice enough to include any number of pre-loaded Star Wars based content for the true fan to enjoy for some time to come. How about a ringtone and sounds for you to set under your notify options that sound every bit like C3PO's miniature white friend. You’re going to get video content from Episode IV which will come with the original music score from the movie as well. Don't like the lame wallpapers that typically come on your cell phone as stock? Well feel free to change it to one of 4 live wallpapers, all with a Star Wars theme. Why it even will give you an R2-D2 clock widget!
If you don't fear the Dark Side and are looking for a little extra, there will also be things like an Empire Strikes Back app that will be available for purchase for those carrying a device with Android 2.1 or higher. For everything else, you’re most likely going to find many of the typical things found on the Android models, with the exception that it will have 1.2 GHz processor as opposed to the 1 GHz one found in the standard model of this Android.
For the sake of Obi-Wan though, don't wait too late to take advantage of this opportunity because it will not last long. Each store that sells them will only get 200, and then after that it’s over. Thus that word limited in the title. The phones should be released to the public tonight around 11:30 September 29, and certainly not be available for much longer as collectors grab them up. So let the force be with you Jedi friends!
