Palm Developer Blog: This Week in Hot Apps (Sept 24, 2010)

Posted: 24 Sep 2010 12:05 PM PDT
Hot Apps is coming into the final stretch with just a little over a week left. The competition is really heating up. Angry Birds is still number one on the paid side, which I think we all expected. They are one of the top iPhone/iPad apps and webOS users world wide were excited to get Angry Birds before Android.

The unexpected leader is the free game Glow Hockey from indie game developer Natenai Ariyatrakool. This classic air hockey game with fun retro Tronish visuals has been a real surprise hit. But of course, with more than a week to go anything could happen.

Other notable apps: My personal favorite Sparkle has continued to move up the charts, now sitting at #8. After a week of lost productivity I’ve finally beaten the game… on easy mode! Argh. Also check out Pixi Dust, the mesmerizing particle simulator that swirls and reacts to multi touch gestures.

Fast Movers
In the Fast Movers ranking we’ve seen a lot of action. Risk, the classic family board game, is now the #1 paid Fast Mover. The physics puzzler Box Balance is the new top free Fast Mover.

If you haven’t gotten enough glowing retro gaming from Glow Hockey and Radiant then perhaps Tanks!, the #2 Fast Mover, will give you your glowing Tronish fill. And if thats still not retro enough for you, then try out 70s classic, Simon!

There’s only a week left in the PDK Hot Apps competition, but as we come down to the final stretch it could still be anybody’s game. Stay tuned for next week, our last week, of This Week in Hot Apps!
