Swedish network equipment vendor Ericsson said Monday it has received a contract to expand and upgrade Finnish telecommunications group DNA's third-generation (3G) networks to fourth generation (4G).
The three-year contract includes network management products, radio access, packet core, backhaul and related network rollout services, Ericsson said.
The value of the order wasn't disclosed.
4G networks offer up to 10 times higher data speeds compared with 3G services.
During the contract period, DNA's 3G services will be expanded to nationwide coverage and 4G services based on Long Term Evolution technology will be offered in major cities, Ericsson said.
DNA aims to commercially launch 4G services during 2011, it added.
