Universities Select HP to Get to Head of the Class.
Higher education institutions choose HP Converged Infrastructure to meet growing student and faculty populations.

HP today announced that three universities have chosen HP Converged Infrastructure solutions to improve educational programs and manage the spike in online information consumed by students and faculty.
Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.; University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.; and Florida’s University of Tampa chose HP networking, storage and server solutions to better meet its data bandwidth demands. With more responsive infrastructures, the universities can serve their growing, technology-savvy populations who are often scattered across multiple campus locations.
HP Converged Infrastructure delivers access to university services
Columbus State University (CSU) has grown from a junior college to a major center of learning with more than 8,000 students across multiple campuses and an increasing number of students attending courses online.
To deliver high-quality instructional services to all students, CSU selected HP 8212zl and HP 5412zl switch series and HP MSM422 Access Points to strengthen its network infrastructure.
This enabled CSU to create a unified educational community to help its student population connect with faculty, staff and university resources from any location. After its entire networking infrastructure was migrated to HP, the university realized savings of 18 percent in support and maintenance costs, reducing its costs by nearly $90,000 a year.(1)
CSU also deployed HP BladeSystem and HP Storage solutions to support growing workload needs due to its increased student and faculty population. With HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosures and HP ProLiant BL685c G7 server blades, the university was able to decrease server failure rates by two-thirds.(1) CSU selected HP P4000 LeftHand Storage Systems to handle its immense data growth, while offering the university the flexibility to scale to accommodate for future needs.

Transformed campus, transformed network
The University of North Florida’s (UNF) 1,300-acre campus with 17,000 students has been transformed during the past several years by more than a million square feet of new construction and multiple new educational programs. To meet the needs of a modern campus, the school’s data network that links students, faculty and staff needed to undergo a similar transformation or risk running out of network capacity.
In 2009, UNF replaced legacy technology with HP 5500G, HP 12508 and HP 5820 switch series to increase network capacity, while using the HP Intelligent Resilient Framework to virtualize multiple switches into one logical switch.
UNF added the HP TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System to manage and protect the network and the HP Intelligent Management Center to simplify management of the network infrastructure. The university now operates a seamless, expanded and secure 10-Gigabit network that can support new students, facilities and programs while saving $105,000 yearly in maintenance costs.(1)
Business-critical workloads get an integrated server upgrade
With 15 consecutive years of record student enrollment, the University of Tampa (UT) experienced substantial growth in the number of people accessing the university’s enterprise resource planning system, document imaging system and student portal. As a result of the increased system workload, the university required greater system capacity to meet changing operational demands.
UT upgraded its infrastructure to an integrated HP server blade environment. Relying on the flexibility of the HP-UX operating system, UT selected an HP Integrity BL870c i2 server blade. This provided the necessary capacity needed to manage the business-critical workloads of the Jenzabar CX administrative application, NolijWeb document imaging solution and Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution (JICS) student portal.
UT experienced increased hardware processing speeds of more than 300 percent compared to its legacy system. The new solution boosted performance of Jenzabar applications by nearly 800 percent and the functionality of the NolijWeb document imaging solution by 30 percent.(1)
