WebOS Open Source Edition or OSE is intended at connected devices from smartwatches to refrigerators, and from telephones to printers. The initial release has been optimised for the Raspberry Pi 3, but other platforms will follow soon.
Apache 2.0 licence
To facilitate code sharing and distribution LG has adopted the Apache 2.0 licencing model for webOS. Developers are invited to join the project and LG promises to offer serious support.
The newly liberated OS relies on the open source Web application framework Enact — itself built upon the React UI library — for application development. QT 5.6, Luna Surface Manager (LSM) and Blink are other cornerstones of the OS.
Get it from GitHub
The webOS OSE code is available from GitHub. Building it requires a computer with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit installed; building inside virtual machines is not supported at the moment. Detailed instructions can be found here: webosOSE
