Brazil : to offer 1.5 million Mandriva-based Classmate PCs to local children

WorldWideTech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

As the Brazil government is set to cooperate with Linux operating system designer Mandriva and Intel to offer 1.5 million Mandriva-based Classmate PCs to local children and will have regional Brazilian brand Positivo provide hardware, Positivo's Taiwan-based notebook manufacturing partners including Clevo and Elitegroup Computer System are both expected to have chance to benefit from the orders, according to sources from the second-tier makers.

However, since the project is led by Intel and will not be started until 2011, the actual benefit is still too early to say, the sources added.

Intel's Classmate PC was originally outsourced to Quanta Computer and was later shifted to ECS, but since the notebook will be provided by Positivo, both ECS and Clevo may have chance to the orders.
