After playing around with TFT and AMOLED displays on their smartphones, Taiwanese phone-maker HTC now plans to incorporate a 3D display on an Android phone. The website 3D Radar claims that according to sources within HTC, the phone may be launched before the end of next year.
HTC’s interest in 3D displays on mobile phones does validate early interest shown by other phone manufacturers such as Sharp and Spice. While Spice has already launched a budget phone with a 3D display- the View D- in India, Sharp is still planning to do so in 2011after launching two such handsets in Japan last month.
While more and more phone manufacturers will no doubt get on board with this new trend, it still doesn’t look like anything more than a novelty feature
I really don’t see how having 3D on a 3 to 4-inch display is really going change things.
Other companies already looking to develop 3D Android devices include Sharp, Motorola and Acer.
